Big Blue Huddle / Re: Jets-Commanders Who to root for ?

Quote from: SlotCorner on December 19, 2023, 07:20:54 PMRodgers only signed a two year contract and is now coming off a major injury. He made noises about retiring before he got traded. I don't care how cheap Wilsonnis, he not the answer. If Rodgers doesn't come back after next year, who's their QB?

Not that I care. This is all predicated on a team that hired Hackett doing something smart.  They're not smart.
It's a three year contract through 2025. If they draft a QB in 2024, they burn two years of his rookie contract before he even sees the field unless Rodgers gets hurt or retires with a huge cap hit.

Quote from: SlotCorner on December 19, 2023, 04:03:39 PMI disagree. If the Jets were smart, they would draft a rookie this year who would benefit from sitting and the coaching of Rodgers. Whatever happens, Rodgers will only play one more year anyway. They should know Wilson isn't the future. The time is now to plan for post-Rodgers. F him what he thinks, if the Jets are going to keep doing things to make him happy, they get what they deserve.
What makes you think Rodgers will play only one more year? The Jets shouldn't be thinking about drafting a QB until at least 2025 or burn his Rookie contract.

No way the Jets draft a QB unless Aaron Rodgers announces his retirement. It would not sit well with him as it didn't when GB drafted Love. Root for the Jets if you want a QB.

He's been brilliant and he's had his clunker moments in play calling. His responsibilities are much more than play calling. Ask me after the season is over.

Quote from: files58 on December 18, 2023, 08:02:55 PMDidn't know his history, however was he supposed to let him catch the pass? That's right born too late. The way the NFL is today one half to most of the defensive players in the HOF would be suspended. We never would have known how great LT, and Ronnie Lott were. There's a DB on Denver who is suspended, in a meeting with Goodell he was told that DB's are responsible for receivers' protection and welfare. Football is a COLLISION, and CONTACT sport. How is a DB supposed to play PROPER pass defense with the "go easy on Johnny" and the way they call PI? Fine you don't want blow up hits then let DB's have some freedom of contact in pass coverage. I'm waiting for the time when some team just doesn't give a crap anymore, and blows up any receiver on a crossing pattern(hopefully an Eagle).
I don't recall players getting hurt back then the way they do today. The body armor these days are built for speed. Helmet to helmet, that needs to be called. Do you remember if QB's had heavier pads too. I think so.

Quote from: files58 on December 18, 2023, 02:56:33 PMI've been thinking about the following for several weeks. Together with the advent of the Tush Push, there has been a great deal of pushing the pile sometimes for 5-10 yards before the RB is finally stopped both in College and pros. A Center, 4 Sumo wrestlers make up the line, a blocking fullback in the style of Carthon, and a big running back. Just maul, and smash your way down the field. Giant Football is smashmouth. That's the ultimate smashmouth. Parts of American Football seem to be taking on the characteristics of Rugby, and or Australian Rules Football. B/t/w in those two games few seem to get hurt at scrum time. How much fun would we all have watching the Eagles, and Pokes get ground into ground beef. Think how loud our stadium would be.
Get five Sumo wrestlers.

I think there will be a no rugby rule coming next season.

Quote from: Painter on December 18, 2023, 04:32:44 PMPleased and so proud of her, I am sure. I am myself quite impressed and inspired by your Alexis. And just to complete the circle of coincidence, I am a graduate of what was once Manhattan College Prep, right there at 242nd and Broadway. Good Luck and God Bless.

Cheers!

What a coincidence for sure. That would be Jenn. Alexis was the one who got married. She's doing her Grad remotely. Thank you.

They have more players on the payroll and rank 21th. Next year when DJ's salary kicks into high gear it will change.
