Quote from: coggs on December 18, 2023, 11:26:21 AMHe had some bad easy misses on Monday against the Packers.  Had some yesterday, as well.  Yes, receivers dropped a few too.  Hyatt has at least 3 the last 2 weeks.
He's had several drops this season. I'm surprised. Hopefully over the shoulder isn't his only forte.

Quote from: Giantleap56 on December 18, 2023, 11:24:10 AMAt what point do people start questioning the coaching. The way I see it is the that the OL is probably the part football that it is most imperative that they work as a team. It seems to me the coaching is absolutely the problem here. I have seen regression and I have seen the OL play above average. Which leads me to believe that there is a consistency problem and that to me is coaching. The lack of building off good performances only to fall flat in their faces time and again. The Giants need to get better coaching. Dump Kafka and get the OL coach from SF to be the OC. To me that's the disconnect Kafka and Johnson. I still don't think Daboll is a good coach outside of the first 6-7 games to his Giants career he has been a disaster. He can't even come up with a plan to compete vs division rivals.

We need a better plan for the OL. I hate to say this but the Giants do not have an identity. That is usually an extension of the coaches.
You make a lot of sense. I was thinking about Tim Coughlin's attention to detail and he hammered it into his coaches and players. At some point they have to look at Daboll who's an excellent OC and QB mentor but is he a Peter Principal?

Quote from: coggs on December 18, 2023, 10:25:15 AMI remember when people on here felt that Will Hernandez was ALMOST as good as Quinton Nelson and to get him in the 2nd round was a steal.  Yeah, and I am almost as good as Quinton Nelson, too.
When he was drafted he looked like a great pickup. 20-20 hindsight

Quote from: coggs on December 18, 2023, 10:23:17 AMNot sure how we can say the defense is fine?  The Saints moved the ball at will in the 2nd half yesterday.  They do well and put up big numbers against lousy teams.  Otherwise, they have been pretty terrible.
Wink called a lousy game. No pressure on a QB who folds under it.

Quote from: coggs on December 18, 2023, 11:15:57 AMBased on some of his terrible misses the past few games.  I do not think he can execute a consistent short game.
Until yesterday he had a good completion percentage and I don't recall many swing passes and flats but I do see some poor execution by the receivers and in blocking those swings and screens.

Quote from: T200 on December 18, 2023, 11:12:45 AMI look at it differently. I think Tommy's a tough kid. He knows he's up against it. Daboll knows he's up against it. I think Daboll wants to see how Tommy functions in harsh conditions.

I don't see any point in starting Tyrod. He has nothing to offer the team outside of an injury to Tommy the remainder of the season.

Tommy's mindset seems to be the opposite of Danny's. One looks to push the ball downfield, the other looks to get rid of it quickly to his closest outlet. Neither have very good pocket awareness and clocks.

I kinda wonder if Tommy heard the fans' gripes about Danny not throwing the ball deep and decided he would make sure to look downfield for long passes.
Tim, it's in their game plan. It's in the game calls too.

Quote from: umassgrad on December 18, 2023, 11:09:51 AMWatching that game made it even more apparent that we have to focus on fixing the OL and Barkley isn't critical in future running game success. You can get a James Cook like guy in the 2nd round.
It's a shame that Barkley's career is being wasted here. Now what? Tagging him and trading him is the only option. But will a team out there want to pay him eleven million?

Off topic, how are the kids? Haven't seen them since about 2007 at camp. My nieces are 24. Alexis just got married and Jenn is teaching in the Bronx and attending Columbia for her Masters.

Quote from: coggs on December 18, 2023, 11:07:17 AMMaybe this is the plan.  Put him in a ridiculously hard situation and see how he handles it?  However, with some of his misses on short throws, not sure he can execute any plan.
If he can't execute a short game and get the ball out in less than 2 seconds, he can't be the backup on this team. Not with that Offensive Line and given the history, I have no confidence that it's going to be better than it has the last ten years. Priority one is to find and retain an excellent Oline Coach.

Quote from: umassgrad on December 18, 2023, 10:43:46 AMThe Bills recipe for success against the Boys very good defense:
1. Run the ball down their throats for over 200 yards on the ground.
2. Limit pass attempts which cuts down sacks and turnovers
3. Play good defense. Only 2.5 sacks and 1 int

=)) Which the Giants can't do. But they were exposed by a good game plan. Once again, Dallas fizzles at the end of the season. No way they beat the Niners.

I don't even know the schedule, who's going to be on the roster, how they will look in camp and pre-season, or what state the opposition will be in.
The interesting thing will be after the Eagles kick the xxxx out of the Giants, will Daboll start Tyrod the remaining two games? I don't know why they didn't have a plan for DeVito to have a short game. It's clear now that opposing Defenses will blitz and contain Tommy while isolating the coverage on Man. I know they want him to read through his progressions but they're killing themselves because they can't run the ball and he's looking down field on everything and not hitting his checkdowns. He's been waiting for his men to get open and it wasn't there yesterday. His protection was pure crap yesterday too!

Quote from: coggs on December 18, 2023, 10:30:42 AM1) they are not playing at home.

2) they are not grooming for anything.  Daboll knows they have no chance of winning this game, so play the kid.

3) Daboll knows he sucks, but he is playing the hand he is dealt.

4) They can find someone cheaper and better than Taylor as a back-up, so need to extend him.
Yes, it's not a home game. Thanks for the correction.

Looks like he's being groomed to be the backup next season under Daniel Jones and Daboll wants him prepared in case he has to start the season.

If he was garbage like some of the itoldyouso QB Gurus we have here, they would be starting Tyrod and discussing a contract extension.

Of course what does Daboll know. He hasn't been posting on a Football Forum for the past 20 years.

Has it been reported that the injury was isolated to just the ACL or was the meniscus or other parts involved. That's going to determine the length of recovery.
