Quote from: SlotCorner on December 18, 2023, 09:09:06 AMYeah that was ugly but not totally unexpected. We beat GB, who lost to Tampa yesterday. Their 3-game win streak may have been just as big a mirage as ours. Our other two wins during this streak came against two of the worst offenses in the NFL.

What I don't get is the lack of pressure on Carr. He is not good under pressure but the Giants seemed content to sit back in zone and hope for coverage sacks that never came. With Olave out, I thought for sure the D would shut him down.

Chalk up the two Eagles games as losses, and if the Rams have something to play for, that one too which leaves us at 5-12. Not bad enough for a top 3 pick, but this team has major issues across the roster. I don't know if you take anything positive out of this season except maybe we found a cheap backup QB and some of the progress of the rookies / young players like Banks and Thibodeaux.

The OL is still a mess. The DL is good but thin. We've got some decent LBs and secondary guys, but Adoree Jackson is done done done.
Adoree' has had a downward trend in his coverage and I'm not sure if it was the transition to Slot that screwed him up or if he's slowed a step but surely his read and react has declined. He's best in man coverage.

I do the same thing but mostly for the purple one, since it's the hardest and not as straightforward as the others.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on December 18, 2023, 06:49:19 AMFYI this will probably be my last time posting my result for this game in this thread. Just no critical mass here, and it's easily the least challenging puzzle of the three main ones that have been discussing.

I'm actually thinking of starting the "Letter Boxed" game, which based on the few times I've tried it is trickier.

Quote from: Painter on December 17, 2023, 07:46:07 PMEven though 2024 is thought to be an above average QB Draft with the likes of Williams, Maye, Nix, Daniels, and Penix seen as 1st Round value, we should never forget that the hit/success rate is rarely if ever 100% and often rather less.

It was 2018, the last time, as I recall that we had a major debate here about whom they should take as Eli's successor from among the "lead pipe" top-5 at the time: Mayfield, Darnold, Allen, Rosen, and Jackson.. It also is my recollection that the consensus QB choice around here was Darnold with the notable exception of- No, not Gettleman whose head and eyes were on his assumed certain to be HOF Running Back- but rather our own Ed Vette who watched his choice, Josh Allen and the Bills beat the crap out of the Cows today.

And so, even if we later add the then 32nd pick, Lamar Jackson to the success count, I guess we'd still have to think as much about cockups as cocksure.

Cheers!

As you know and what escapes the masses, no QB will be successful until the Offensive Line is infused with better talent and properly coached. And if a team can't run the ball or protect the QB, that team will be abused by the better teams in the league.

Patty nails it with this recap. Dropped passes, a turnstile of an Offensive Line, lousy play calling, abandoning the run in the second half, no pass rush, poor coverage and I'll add hesitation by the rookie QB. Just a total team letdown.

I have to pin a good portion of this season's woes on GM Joe Schoen for repeating the mistakes of his predecessors with the lack of quality Olinemen and Oline Depth. Totally derailed the Offense and the QBs. How do you spend an average of $40 million a year on a franchise QB and not afford him the protection and Run blocking to get the job done? Pugh is shot, Ezu, Peart, Glowinski, McKethan and Bredeson can't be back next season. They better determine early on if they even want to carry Evan Neal. And if they don't fire the Offensive Line Coach the day the season is over, then there are deeper problems than all of the above. Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes wouldn't be able to function behind that clusterfuck. Draft a QB? For what? To break him like they did Jones?

Quote from: Ed Vette on December 17, 2023, 12:40:12 PMI actually took the Giants in my pools. I was thinking about going with the Jets because of Miami's Oline woes and Tyreek's health but I chickened out.
Hill out, took the Jets too.
