Big Blue Huddle / Re: Daniel Jones’ future.
November 09, 2023, 08:43:43 AM
Daniel Jones is done here and there is no way they carry him into 2025 no matter how he plays next season. Whether they draft a QB or not. It's just too costly of a contract for a player with his injury history.

If they do draft a QB, there is no way of knowing how that will play out. So it's just a guessing game on whether the Giants get trade value for him in 2024. They won't risk paying the bonus in 2025 to trade him.

Schoen is not going to risk his career in a game of Russian Roulette with a bullet marked DJ.

So one thing is certain. Jones moves on before any guarantees kick in.

As it looks now, he becomes some GM's take a chance lottery or he becomes a career backup. I think he will wind up on a team that will take a chance with him as a starter and who knows, maybe he has a Geno Smith destiny.

Big Blue Huddle / Which Loss Was Most Telling
November 09, 2023, 08:11:20 AM
Was it Dallas that showed how woefully unprepared this team was entering the season?

Was it the Bills, Raiders or Jets?

I believe it was against the Jets in a game they should have won if not just for the decision to play conservative and one dimensional, but to show how unprepared they were for a backup QB after having weeks to bring in a veteran, not knowing or understanding the condition of the kicker and calling the worst set of plays in overtime after taking the ball and not trusting their Defense.

All that aside, what were the common themes in each of the losses?

Big Blue Huddle / The Role of an Offensive Coordinator
November 08, 2023, 03:30:12 PM
He's more than just a play caller.

From Chat AI

The role of an offensive coordinator in the NFL is to develop and implement offensive strategies for a team. They work closely with the head coach and other assistant coaches to create game plans, design plays, and coordinate the offense during games. Offensive coordinators are responsible for calling plays, adjusting the game plan based on the opponent's defense, and making in-game decisions to maximize the team's offensive production. They play a crucial role in developing the team's offensive scheme and working with players to execute the game plan effectively.

Here is a more detailed breakdown:

Is he worth the 2.2 Mil in Cap Space next season? What are the odds he won't miss another game this year?

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants in one word: UNDISCIPLINED

I don't believe he lost the team, Rob. I think what happened was that he came in after a disciplinarian in Joe Judge. When Judge continued to lose and he created a rift internally, they stopped listening to him. In comes Brian Daboll who has a likable personality and found a way to create a balance where he was liked and respected, where expectations for this team were low. He was able to win games against a weak schedule by dumbing down the Offense for Jones and cutting down on turnovers and mistakes. Plus he was aggressive and lucky. Coming off a XXXXX in Judge, he was a God-sent.

They won a playoff game with a good plan against a weak defensive opponent. The season ended badly but there were excuses to fall back on.

Weapons were added and other talent was added through the draft and by trades. The expectation by everyone was that they would take the next step on a new turf that would cut down on injuries. Knowing that most of the team was returning in the second year of both Offensive and Defensive systems, the approach was to ease into the season to minimize injuries and extend stamina to the peak of the season.

A miserable loss on Opening Day to Dallas brought this team down to earth and to the fact that they were not prepared for the season.

Then injuries happened. Jones was unable to do what his Coaches believed he could do and that was to read Defenses on Option Routes, move through his progressions, identify the Hot Read, and release the ball for timely completions. The fact is that he was never able to and won't ever be able to do it. Confused, he caved under pressure. Tyrod Taylor comes in after the neck injury and it becomes very apparent that DJ was one of the key problems. They like Jones and respect Jones but they then lost confidence in Jones.

When Leo Williams was traded, the Defense lost one of its dominant vocal leaders, on a team with many Chiefs who in some cases are just not leaders. Every team will have silent strong resilient players and a couple of weak-minded players when the going gets tough. When the weak-minded start to become a locker room cancer, the HC has to nip it and must be supported by The GM. If you recall, "In Reese We Trust" didn't support McAdoo or Coughlin. Gettleman didn't support Judge.

Pay attention to how McKinney is being handled. He not only ran his mouth, but he gave up on a play that resulted in an inevitable TD to protect himself. He needs to be benched this game and perhaps the rest of the season.

When TC had his pivotal years, he fired Hufnagel and then his DC. Daboll and Schoen have to make changes in that staff. If they don't they both won't survive. The team is undisciplined because of poor coaching and leadership at the unit and coordinator levels. They need to elevate men like Micah McFadden, Bobby Okereke, Jalin Hyatt, JMS, and whoever is laying it on the line every game. Everyone here said it. Too many Captains and a poor mix.

Schoen made some terrific moves but he also made bad decisions. I suspect he was trying to please Mara when he tagged Saquon and signed Jones. In Retro, he should have done the opposite.

I see Daboll and Schoen tied at the hip. They get one more year.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 08, 2023, 06:47:10 AMOnce the games are no longer relevant, it's hard to care as much, even for a passionate fan. I would even suggest that if you care as much about this Sunday's game (from a winning standpoint) as you did week one at home against Dallas when everyone had an 0-0 record, your sense of priority may be a bit off. Plus, you have this conflict now of winning perhaps not being the best thing for the franchise, given we're likely in the market for a QB, which means you want as high a pick as possible.

I will certainly be watching on Sunday and rooting for them (as I always do during games), plus I'm kind of curious to see how DeVito handles this challenge, but in no way do I care as much whether they win or not as I did earlier this season when the games mattered. Once they lost the Seattle game in spectacular fashion the way they did, I kind of knew the season was over at that point. I guess I was hoping it wouldn't go completely off the rails the way it did, but let's face it, this is nothing we haven't seen before. Plenty of times. Sadly, Giants fans have become used to this type of season.
In years past I would never hope to be the worst team for draft purposes and that goes back to Eli. I still root on Sunday but in this era of the NFL, there is a clear advantage in having an elite QB. Of course the Draft is also clearly a gambling proposition.

The damage done to the more mature generations of the fan base is evident just by looking at the Members List and seeing those who were enthusiastically posting years ago and now no longer post, although some just read to keep up with the news. Their passion has waned.

My emotional level before and after the game has been tempered and jaded. I've become more of an NFL fan and less of a Giants fanatic. Appreciation is more accurate than fan.

Not everyone here was on the Bryce Young bandwagon. Some people saw the talent in Stroud. Still, let's not put him in the HOF just yet.

The Giants' record for the last ten years is:

63-107-1  .368 winning %

Points For- 3364
Points Against- 4121

Besides Games at the stadium and on TV, watching podcasts, analyzing footage, and reporting on training camp, some of us have spent a half year to almost a full year of our lives Online here discussing Giants Football. Rich has spent 3.4 years of his life dedicated to this team and this organization.

To put this in perspective, let's look back at the Wilderness Days of 1964 - 1974.

55-95-4  .357 winning %

The true outliers have been the Parcells and Coughlin generations. Pockets of about 7-8 years of good competitive and championship Football.

I don't know about any of you but Owa Tagu Syam...

The thing is, we have become so used to this that we have become numb and complacent and accepting of this crappy product almost year in and year out, with a little taste of success only to fall back into the abyss. I loved going to the games but I have to say that I'm so happy that I walked away from my seat license to save a lot of money and a lot of time.
