The Front Porch / Re: What are we watching these days?
November 05, 2023, 09:28:31 AM
Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on November 04, 2023, 01:00:39 PMI have Apple TV, but rarely watch it so I decided to either cancel the service or see if there was anything I might like. I've heard good things about "Morning Show", but never gave it a chance because the genre seemed uninteresting to me and the combination of Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Steve Carell seemed a little eclectic and not up my ally. I like Aniston, and I like Witherspoon, but the two together seems too odd to fuse

Anyway, I gave it a shot and got hooked. Binged the first 4 episodes and I like it a lot. It reminds me a little of "Suits", only instead of a law firm scheme, it's a journalism company scheme. Backstabbing, lying, betrayal, power struggle, sex, etc. Aniston is the "old pro" that has carried the show for years, is cranky, very serious, and on the verge of a mental breakdown, Witherspoon a foulmouthed, trailer trash, unprofessional, hick from down south, and Carell a sexual predator. Supporting cast has recognizable, experienced actors that I'd think are phenomenal

We are up to date on all the episodes. We like the show but it does have its ups and downs. As for Apple TV, they just raised their subscription price from $6.99 to $9.99. Not that the three bucks will break me but it's a 43% increase. I think ten bucks is still a good value but this is the only show I'm watching on it right now. My gun range recently raised my premium membership 60% and they didn't raise the walk-in range rental price, which annoyed me so I canceled my membership. Too many businesses are taking advantage of inflation in my opinion and in some cases raising prices to make more profit. Rant over.

I predict that if the Giants lose any of the remaining games to two teams a tanking, Giants Nation will lose their xxxx in epic proportions...

And a partridge in a pear tree.

I never tried to contact them. Have you tried to cancel the subscription at $6.99 and then open a new subscription? If you have an existing account I don't think you can open a new account but I don't think I would try to cancel an account.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Gano to have surgery

Quote from: Dumpster Dan on November 02, 2023, 07:08:58 PMNice try Lawrence for going to bat for a fellow kicker--I believe Gano got most of his extension guaranteed.

Having said that I am sorry about Gano--for most of the season he has been one of a few bright spots

Dumpster Dan
Yes, his 2023 and 2024 salary plus his 2024 roster bonus and signing bonus fully guaranteed.

How does a multi billion dollar organization take unnecessary gambles like this? This should have been a concern a week ago. The backup kicker should have been on the practice squad. The medical team should have given an accurate report and we don't know if they did or didn't. Somebody should be fired over this.

As for Daboll, I can absolve him of the first kick but I can't of the second kick if he didn't speak with his ST Coach at halftime. And if he did and didn't get an accurate Accessment, then that Coach needs to go as he should have a month ago.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 02, 2023, 01:28:39 PMI am learning I have a bit of color blindness for the pink and blue.  I struggle to differentiate the two. :o

I got a perfect score today.  I am starting to identify a tactic.  Previously, I would work on the first pattern I identified.  Now, if I don't feel fully comfortable with a given patter, I continue looking to see if there is one I feel better about.   Obviously, the more choices you can take off the board, the easier the remaining groupings become.
Go Big Pink!
That just doesn't sound right.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 02, 2023, 12:19:11 PMSo we definitely think it's better to have a GM who seeks players' permission before trading them and allows them to be the final decision maker, even in the event that the GM thinks their decision is not in the best interests of the organization?

Don't get me wrong - as I said in the other thread, I think this feedback from Leo definitely reflects positively on the organization, but I do think there is another side to it that is worthy of at least pondering.
I interpreted it as he had multiple offers and he gave him a heads up. Leo knows he wasn't getting signed to an extension or a new contract. By allowing him to be involved it actually made his negotiating the best deal easier because Seattle can speak with his agents and work out something more long term instead of a one season rental. The Giants got a heck of a deal.

Yes, I saw that and it was definitely handled well.

Two separate issues here. An abusive unprofessional owner who lacks people skills and uses his power to satisfy his ego... and stupid business decisions creating division within the organization and a toxic work environment.

I have two personas. One that roots to win every game and one who only wants to win the day before if it validates DJ and proves there is no need to draft a QB. I would be fine with losing every game the rest of the year until Sunday.
