Quote from: uconnjack8 on March 30, 2024, 04:48:21 PMSerious question:  What does a guy like Simms see in the throwing part of pro-day?  Its scripted throws in shorts with no defense.  Do people really walk away from those impressed?  It's a dog and pony show
You compare them to the other pro days. Look to see if there are any improvements in what has been flagged from the season. There was a drop-off in play by Maye from 2022 to 2023 so what were the factors besides losing his top receiver for several games and the drop in talent around around him?

Quote from: Rosehill Jimmy on March 30, 2024, 04:20:24 PMI think in our collective heart of hearts we know you're right. But what better place than an anonymous message board as a platform to demonstrate that you are the smartest person in the room?  And if our posts elicit a laugh or two, all the better  ;)

Actually not my words. A quoteless copy that went under the radar by the author. Although applied to 34 pages of hype... yada, yada, yada.

We'll see how good he actually becomes. Everyone here such firm views on all these prospects like they already know the outcome. It makes me chuckle how certain everyone seems. The reality is there is a huge range of possibilities with all these players, and nobody remotely knows where any of them will land, including people employed in the league who are more qualified than any of us to make these judgments.

At almost 6'5 Maye will fill in and bulk up his 230 frame but I don't see him doing some of the Superman stunts that Josh Allen does. Allen had basic mechanics issues that were obviously correctable. Maye is working on his feet and strides as evidenced in his Pro Day, although he doesn't have that extra hop step a couple of QBs have a bad habit of in this draft. He's going to need to shorten his wind-up at the next level on the quick game. What he excells at is he throws a nice catchable ball and adjusts angles at different levels. His arm on deep throws would have Jalin Hyatt salivating if he were drafted. They would have a good chance of holding up in the fall winds and cold of the Meadowlands. He reminds me more of Andrew Luck than Josh Allen. Go back and watch some AL film. Beautiful angled passes with a soft touch at all levels.

Quote from: Bob In PA on March 30, 2024, 08:03:08 AMRich: All good offenses are hard to learn. Daboll's offense relies more on WR's/TE's/RB's doing the right thing as much as it relies on the QB making the right read and correct run-pass decision.

One-read offenses are not predetermined. Although the QB is going only look in one place, it's up to him (at the line of scrimmage) to determine WHERE he should make that one look.

The decision rests on first deciding whether to run or pass. If he elects to pass, then he decides where to look.

It's all based on where the defenders line up and where the QB believes they'll be after the snap. NOTHING about this is simple, easy or uncomplicated. That's why they want and need a smart QB. Except on designed running plays, if the QB in Daboll's offense does anything other than hand the ball off or throw a pass, it means the QB read wrong or guessed wrong.

What makes Daboll's offense difficult is the same thing that makes it successful... it's hard to learn... which means it's hard for defenders to learn, too.

Bob
Bob, Daboll dumbed down the Offense for Daniel Jones. He asked him what plays he felt most comfortable with and worked off those routes. Limiting reads and mostly High-Lows and Read Options.

If Lock is similarly challenged, he will fit right in.

Quote from: Philosophers on March 29, 2024, 01:57:58 PMReally?  I thought Nicks was an outlier as he had I think 10 inch hands.  Do QBs actually have hands that big?

I think JJ's hands were the smallest of the 6 QBs.
Nicks was measured at 10.5 and some touted at 11. Soft hands too. Poof!

Quote from: uconnjack8 on March 29, 2024, 12:22:08 PMWith QBs what's the minimum hand size teams usually use as a line?
I think they prefer ten but nine is acceptable.

Big Blue Huddle / The 2024 QB Class
March 29, 2024, 12:23:03 PM
I remember several drafts where there were 4+ QB prospects that all had the look and potential to be be a Franchise QB, but I don't remember agreeing with almost the entire class. This class has at least six QBs and possibly seven who could emerge as outstanding QBs. Of course history shows that's very unlikely. I do believe the destination is one of the determining factors.

There will likely be six QBs taken in the first round and it sounds unprecedented. Penix is going to be one of them. Just where, remains to be seen.

I don't believe I can rank them. I will say that if I had my druthers I would hope the Giants draft Drake Maye and sit him a year. I would not be disappointed in McCarthy or Nix. The best talent is Calib Williams but I don't see him as a fit in NY. I also would be intrigued to see Daniels in Blue.

I would be shocked if the Giants didn't come away with one of the top six QBs in this draft.
