Quote from: Dgoodmantrublu on November 26, 2023, 10:03:13 PMDaniels has certainly showed that. But what you look for in QBs is traits. Josh Allen was bad in college. But he had elite traits that Daboll developed.
Giants are playing themselves out of Daniels' draft spot. I think he's going to blow up the combine and go top 5.

Giants are more likely to get Bo Nix

Quote from: Ed Vette on November 23, 2023, 11:15:23 AMHe might start on PUP.
He will start on PUP. Which means he doesn't count to the active roster until he is taken off of PUP, which will be well into the season.

Quote from: BluesCruz on November 21, 2023, 02:57:48 AMI dont think we were watching the same game Sunday.  If not REAL talent, what sort of talent produces 3 TDs and a 130 QBR, despite having a collapsing blocking wall in front of him, and a so called world class RB who purposely dodged one oncharging Wash lineman and was called out for it by the announcers who replayed the offense.

If not talented how does this happen- Swirling winds carried the ball to its destination countless times?

The same announcers also commented on what a strong arm Tommy has.

This a classic case of looking a gift horse in the mouth

I wonder what NE fans were saying when Brady replaced Bledsoe.  Probably the same sort of thinking

Sometimes talent is there but never gets an opportunity.  In hindsight these staggering developments that put DeVito out there might prove a blessing

Jones was regressing, not improving

We shall see
DeVito had the benefit of a very poor Washington defense that was allowing open receivers all over the field. They were loading up to stop the run figuring DeVito wouldn't hurt them with his arm. So while he did make plays, they were there for the taking. Just a poor job by del Rio in what should have been a gimme game.

We will have a better idea of DeVito's QB acumen when they take on the Pats. For all their problems this season, that coaching staff understands how to shut down a rookie QB.

I have no numbers to back it up, but it felt like Kayvon was almost exclusively rushing the QB against the Commanders. It seemed like he dropped back into coverage a lot against the Cowboys and many of the other games where he was accused of not showing up and being a bust.

Yes, but Banks went to Maryland, so the Commanders were the local team and he wanted to play for them but they took a lesser CB in front of him. So not a good look, but it's not a random FU to the Commanders

The nine sacks were definitely not optimal, but the sacks didn't hurt the Giants as much as you would think. Three of the sacks were a second sack on the same drive, so there was only a slight dip in field position. One of the drives with a sack ended in a TD anyway. So ultimately, 5 sacks were real drive killers. And none of them were the kind of bone crushing, whiplash inducing kind of hit. As someone pointed out in the gameday thread, some of the sacks were a result of DeVito looking downfield instead of dumping to his checkdown (a couple should have been throwaways, but whatevs). Maybe we can live with sacks like that just like interceptions that are essentially punts. Maybe the net effect of looking and throwing downfield offsets the effects of sacks and INTs.

On to the Belichiks!

Quote from: TDToomer on November 20, 2023, 09:11:25 AMIf we use Kyler Murray as a similar comp then Jones should be practicing next August. I just think fans want him gone and are just saying he will be be not be ready.
Murray wasn't activated until last week, if you want to use that comp. Which means Jones is likely on PUP for the first half of the season, definitely not on the active roster week one.

The only way to unburden the Giants from Jones' contract would be to Osweiler him - - that is, find a team with a ton of cap space and trade Jones, his salary, and a second day pick in exchange for a third day pick.

He'll stay on PUP to avoid the $69mil dead cap hit and cut him loose in 2025.

We know nothing based on today. DeVito could reel off three more victories or he could come crashing down to earth when a real coach with a modicum of film whips up a real game plan. He's a nice story this week, but that's as far as it goes... for now

Tony Romo's father is of Mexican descent, not Italian

Quote from: Philosophers on November 19, 2023, 03:22:01 PMNo QB would do well under DeVito's 9 sack assault.  We might as well draft a kicker to play QB.
You mean no QB other than Tommy DeVito?

Quote from: T200 on November 19, 2023, 11:05:52 AMNot sure why you received my post the way that you did. Be that as it may...

I wasn't equating player safety to flag football. However, in the interest of player safety (which I am not against, BTW) fundamental changes are necessary if player safety is paramount. I juries are going to happen when 250+ pound men are routinely deliberately crashing and colliding into each other. No, the intent isn't to injure but it is bound to continue ue to happen.

How do you cut down on the injuries? You limit the amount of collisions allowed. Look at the changes to the kickoffs. Players are not getting any smaller or slower.
I don't see how a new tackling technique that causes injuries by design is chalked up to "it's just big fast guys running into each other". Especially when it's a specific, controllable way in which they run into each other.

And if you think players don't try to injure other players, you are quite naïve. Ever heard of bounty gate? Buddy Ryan? The dozens of techniques outlawed by the NFL for their propensity for injury?

Quote from: EDjohnst1981 on November 19, 2023, 07:20:37 AMWhen the excuses were being made for Jones' non-elite play, it was often stated that his early years were hampered by the coaching.

In fact, coaching was one of the 'three pillars' to success - something that was omitted in the analysis of Herbert.

I don't think anyone thinks that automatically picking a QB is going to make everything right. The giants picked one 6th overall and are still in a mess.

I think you are confusing team success with QB play. Make no mistake -- Jones is NOT elite, regardless of his teammates. Herbert is an elite QB even with the limitations of his team.

I was watching Penix last night and it occurred to me that as a lefty, the blindside protector is the right tackle. Unless Thomas moves to RT, I don't know if this is such a good idea. And that's shame, because Penix has a really live arm and great accuracy on the deep ball.

I see the numbers, but I can't get over how bad Bo was in his Auburn days. Is he really that much improved?
