Big Blue Huddle / Re: Would Nolan Smith Be A Good ILB?
November 16, 2022, 10:19:01 PM
Quote from: Philosophers on November 16, 2022, 10:08:03 PMI was thinking of him in the 2nd round.  I've never heard of a torn pectoral muscle being a serious career debilitating injury.

Didn't say it was a serious debilitating injury. With our history I said it probably wouldn't be wise to take a risk on a player who had season ending surgery.

He's going to be a really good NFL player but he suffered a torn pectoral that ended his season. After the way injuries have stalked this team for a long time do you really want to draft a guy in the first round who is coming off a significant injury?

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 16, 2022, 12:51:23 PMbut Giants message board existed back then

I can't recall a post I made a month ago. I'm not going to remember the overall tenor of the board back in 2011 after week 9. I suspect most posters won't remember it accurately either as no one at the time was talking about the Giants being a Super Bowl caliber team.

Twitter wasn't founded until March of 2006 and only broke the 300,000 total tweets a day in 2008. So the first part of his question is largely irrelevant. 2011 pre dates my adoption of Twitter by a year so I have no idea what was being discussed.

The real question is did the fans posting on Twitter in 2011 represent a fair cross section of your typical fan. I don't think it was at that point.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Daboll apologized to Anderson
November 14, 2022, 10:17:05 PM
All this hand wringing over a tongue lashing. I'm not that old but back in the 80's my high school coach would destroy some hapless kid on the sideline for a similar transgression every week. In games we lost he'd hand several out. I remember being told to find a way home from the game because idiots weren't allowed on the bus. We all survived, as I'm sure Anderson will too.

I'm glad Daboll isn't a meathead and has the emotional IQ to understand what he did wrong, acknowledge it publicly and to apologize publicly.

Quote from: TrueBlueFan on November 14, 2022, 03:36:56 PMI apologize all, I agree with all thats being said. I meant in terms of how bad the crowd is booing him when he is on the field

Re-reading my original response it may have read differently than intended. It was meant to be tongue in cheek. Sorry if it came off more aggressive than it was meant to be.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: NGT: Kyler Murray
November 14, 2022, 10:04:47 PM
As the old sayings goes success has many fathers but failure is an orphan. The one thing I really like about Jones is that he has never blamed a teammate or coach during his time in NY, no matter how blameworthy.

To me it's beginning to look as if Murray is a toxic leader incapable of handling adversity. The Cards may rue the day they gave him all that money.

Overall defensive grade- 69.4
Run defense- 69.1
Tackling- 75.2
Pass Rush- 62.6
Coverage- 61.8

he was credited with one hurry and a pass rush win percentage of 9.4% which isn't really that good

It is my understanding that the NFL reviews and grades the performance of the officials every week to include missed calls. I'm not an officiating expert but I swear he was held half a dozen times yesterday but only drew one penalty. It's a shame the league doesn't share those reviews because it adds additional context to his performance. I get the feeling that if he had drawn four holding penalties yesterday instead of the one people would feel differently about how he played.

Quote from: LennG on November 14, 2022, 01:57:49 PMI agree MB, engram blatantly lost games for us while being on the field, Galloday hasn't gotten that far yet.

He did indeed cost us a couple of games. He also averaged 565 yards and a little more than 3 touchdowns a year. In his year and a half in NY Golladay falls short of both this figures. The next touchdown Golladay scores for the Giants will be his first.

Frankly I don't know who pulled off the bigger heist. Golladay taking boats loads of cash from the Giants and not even being good enough to be a bad NFL receiver or Gettleman who took millions and screwed up almost every major decision.

I'm grateful that it seems like we've turned the corner and are a respectable franchise once again after wandering the desert for a decade.

Quote from: kingm56 on November 14, 2022, 01:37:23 PMReally!? We're making an argument for DJ to be a hero, but not for the man that literally carried this team to victory yesterday?  Barkly had 2x more runs than DJ had pass attempts.  How can you be hero if you only threw the ball 17x? Moreover, barely any of those throws were contested...he was throwing to wide-open WRs, which were mostly his first read.  I thought he had a solid game and did what the coaches asked him to do; to that point, his coaches are not asking him to be the 'hero'; they're putting that onus on Barkley...

I believe his blocking in pass protection is what dropped his overall grade but yes PFF didn't give him the grade his play warranted.

With Jones though he kept several drives alive with his legs and that needs to be figured into his grade as well.

That's grotesquely unfair to Engram. At least on occasion Engram would make a big play. All we get from Golladay is garbage. He's awful.

Quote from: sooners56 on November 14, 2022, 12:18:37 PMpossibly left some plays on the field when he dropped back 🤷🏼♂️

As does every quarterback in every game. He was about as close to perfect you will see a qb perform yesterday. Makes you really question the legitimacy of their ranking system.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants last minute additions
November 14, 2022, 12:19:38 PM
I don't have any issues with Anderson. He definitely screwed up but he was put in a position that was completely removed from his experience and screwed up. I feel for him even if I was as pissed at him as Daboll was yesterday. I'd rather see them cut Peart. Unlike Anderson he's been given chance after chance and has always found a way to screw up.

How did Jones not earn a hero designation? He did everything you could ask for from a quarterback.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Elite Players
November 13, 2022, 07:36:58 PM
Quote from: MightyGiants on November 13, 2022, 06:59:08 PMI watch elite QBs, and I have to confess it's sometimes jarring after spending too much time on this forum.   On this forum, there are so many depending on absolute perfection from DJ.   It's like a single miss is proof that DJ is no good.   Yet, I see Mahomes miss, I see Josh Allen miss, I see Burrow miss, same with other elite QBs.

I mean here Jones puts up the best QB rating any QB has done this season and people are still putting him down and saying he is no good based off of the best QB rating through 10 weeks.

When did I say he was no good? I said he'll never be elite. In the past I have said his upside is that of Kirk Cousins. Not elite but good, and it wasn't just his one pass today, regardless of his qbr, that lead me to the conclusion.
