This team still has a ways to go to get back to where we want to be but three years ago the only Giant you could point to and say that he has pro bowl/all pro potential was Barkley. At that point Lawrence was still a bit of a disappointment.

Today is a completely different story.  We have guys like Thomas, Okereke, Lawrence, Burns and Thibs who are at that level or are on the cusp of being in that discussion. Then we have several young guys (Nabers, Hyatt and Banks) who have the physical tools to develop into outstanding NFL players but the school is still out on. Now if we can only find a quarterback....

The point of this post is that I understand why some posters feel lost and frustrated that we aren't improving but we are. The level of talent on the roster is the best it's been in close to a decade. It isn't being felt yet due to poor quarterback play or age but you can't deny that we've accumulated some really nice pieces.

Quote from: gregf on April 25, 2024, 11:05:42 PMCB, RB, and safety are in play. Personally,  I hope the next 2 picks build the trenches at guard and DT.

IMHO there are three very good running ba is in this draft. I know people say you can find a starter in the 4th round but if the goal is to build an offense this year so that who ever they draft next year can transition smoothly than you can't discount a running back.  Corum, Benson and Brooks are going to be good backs for the next 6 or 7 years.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Will DJ Be Better With Nabers?

Quote from: AZGiantFan on April 25, 2024, 10:22:09 PMIf the line proves adequate (by which I mean average) it will finally give DJ his first NFL-caliber offensive line since he got to the NFL.  If that happens and they get a modicum of health I think top ten is not out of the question.

Don't think top 10 is realistic, but top 15 is.

Quote from: Trench on April 25, 2024, 10:26:48 PMDon't forget - Broncos have our old friend Sills

Just goes to show how bad their receiver room is.

We have needs at guard, running back, corner, defensive tackle and safety. Who do you guys want? 47 might be too early for running back as you can usually find a good one in the third round or later. At guard I could see a reluctance to keep throwing first and second round picks at the problem. My guess would be corner or defensive tackle.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 25, 2024, 10:07:30 PMI think the Broncos and Bo could be a good fit and successful

Their skill position players were worse than ours last year and they didn't get better so far this offseason. Their line should be solid though, so at least he won't be running for his life every week.

If history is any guide only one or two will really hit. Looking at the situation I'd say the Bears have really set Williams up well. The rest are going to struggle for a couple years.

Quote from: Gmo11 on April 25, 2024, 09:49:52 PMThey'll find something.  They always do.

This is silly. I have been 100% on the Jones isn't it bandwagon for two years and love the Nabers pick. There were several services that had Nabers in the top three and one had him as the best player in the draft. I know we have to move on from Jones, but if we can fix the line the next quarterback is gonna have some tools to work with. We were never going to get the rebuilding done this offseason.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 25, 2024, 09:31:50 PMAll three have significantly more flaws than the prospects that were taken 1-3. They would have likely been qbs 7, 8, 9 in this draft. Will they go 1st next year possibly but the talent is nowhere near the guys that came out this year unless they take significant steps.

lol. No one, and I mean no one in the world had Daniels going second overall in this draft, this time last year. Too skinny, processed too slowly, struggled with mechanics. A year later everyone forgets about it, and no one is really talking about how much Maye regressed this year without Phil Longo calling plays for him. There will be at least two quarterbacks with top 10 grades next year. If I'm wrong this time next year I'll have no problem admitting I was wrong.

Quote from: AYM on April 25, 2024, 09:25:17 PMI don't think the Giants are on the list of approved teams for Shedeur Sanders, but the other two could be interesting. And who knows, we've seen guys come from nowhere to jump to the top of the draft - like Daniels just now.

With Nabers, Hyatt and Robinson to throw to and the ability to make tens of millions off the field I'm not so sure of that. If we can get a starting guard and running back out of this draft it becomes even more appealing.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 25, 2024, 09:08:04 PMYeah but most of those guys that flash one season are busts. At least you could see Daniels development in the half decade he was in college. The only flash that hit in recent memory was Burrow. Besides him you have a bunch of Zack Wilson's, and Trey Lances.

Shadeur Sanders, Quinn Ewers and Cam Ward had seasons equal to Maye this year, and all three were better than Daniels was as a junior. None of the three would be considered a flash in the pan.

Quote from: TONKA56 on April 25, 2024, 09:01:19 PMSo you're planning on a high draft pick in 2025?

Yes

Quote from: katkavage on April 25, 2024, 09:01:14 PMThey will be right there drafting high up again next year.

Possibly but at least that quarterback will have what he needs to succeed if they can find a guard and running back in this draft.

Quote from: katkavage on April 25, 2024, 08:53:57 PMSee you here next year. Same situation. Looking for a QB.

If you're going to take a quarterback early you risk ruining him if you don't have supporting talent around him. They need to come out of this draft with a quality guard and running back and then go all in on a quarterback next year.

Big Blue Huddle / NGT- Ryan Poles
April 25, 2024, 08:26:47 PM
Poles was a finalist for the job that Schoen got. Gotta admit that he's made some really astute moves to start his GM career. He has essentially turned Bryce Young into Caleb Williams, DJ Moore and Darnell Wright. He got the better quarterback and two good NFL starters.
