Quote from: katkavage on April 25, 2024, 09:01:14 PMThey will be right there drafting high up again next year.

Possibly but at least that quarterback will have what he needs to succeed if they can find a guard and running back in this draft.

Quote from: katkavage on April 25, 2024, 08:53:57 PMSee you here next year. Same situation. Looking for a QB.

If you're going to take a quarterback early you risk ruining him if you don't have supporting talent around him. They need to come out of this draft with a quality guard and running back and then go all in on a quarterback next year.

Big Blue Huddle / NGT- Ryan Poles
April 25, 2024, 08:26:47 PM
Poles was a finalist for the job that Schoen got. Gotta admit that he's made some really astute moves to start his GM career. He has essentially turned Bryce Young into Caleb Williams, DJ Moore and Darnell Wright. He got the better quarterback and two good NFL starters.

Big Blue Huddle / 1st round miss rate
April 24, 2024, 11:50:36 AM
Pretty surprising IMHO. I would have thought that wide receiver would have the lowest miss rate and quarterback the highest. Instead receiver has the highest miss rate while quarterback is in the middle of the pack.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Waller getting divorced
April 23, 2024, 07:20:39 PM
Quote from: spiderblue43 on April 23, 2024, 07:16:39 PMWow..that Aces marriage busted quickly.  He probably wants to unretire..or maybe play..or whatever. :what:

My thoughts were that he was contemplating retirement to save his marriage but now that it is over perhaps retirement has lost its appeal.

Big Blue Huddle / Waller getting divorced
April 23, 2024, 07:01:24 PM
According to ESPN Waller is divorcing Kelsey Plum, his wife of one year. Normally I don't care about players personal lives but this could directly impact if he plays this year or not.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Philly & Saquon - Tampering?
April 23, 2024, 12:47:14 PM
Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 22, 2024, 08:01:49 PM4 teams offered saquan, we didn't even offer him a deal so not sure you can tamper with something we didn't want anyways.

The harm wasn't to us but the other three teams that were bidding for his services, but missed out because the Eagles broke the rules. The league simply can't function if teams willfully break the rules for competitive advantage.

Quote from: Philosophers on April 23, 2024, 11:29:19 AMHow much time does Schoen thinks he has left in his Giants tenure?  If less he may swing for the fences this year and gamble on a QB.

IMHO both Schoen and Daboll are going to get at least four years, especially after they squeezed a playoff appearance out of a relatively untalented team. Mara is on record as saying that we can't continue to keep cycling through head coaches every three years. I suppose Daboll could be gone at the end of the year if he becomes more dictatorial and erratic than this past year but I think Schoen is safe.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 23, 2024, 09:01:56 AMI have listened to all the rumors and all the insiders.  This is the best I can discern when it comes to the Giants desires for round one.

1)  The Giants would like to draft a quarterback but on their terms.  In other words, for the right price, the Giants would move up to take a QB, or they would take one if he falls to six.

2)  Maye seems to be the quarterback the Giants have the most interest in.  JJ is another QB the Giants may have interest in, but it doesn't sound like he would be a trade-up target

3)  Failing to secure a QB, the Giants will sit at 6 and take the best WR on their board.  I have no idea how the Giants have stacked the 3 WRs prospects

At the end of the regular season I wanted them to draft a quarterback. At that point in time not many were predicting as many as four quarterbacks to go in the first five picks and we would likely have the chance to draft Daniels or McCarthy at six. Now I hope they don't. Don't get me wrong we desperately need an upgrade but with the current supporting cast I don't think it's wise to package a bunch of picks to move up and get the guy we want. We still have too many holes on offense and would likely be setting that guy up for failure.

At this point I'd be more interested in dropping from six to the 9-13 range. That would give us the chance to draft a guy like Thomas out of LSU and give us another first round pick to move up in next years draft to get Jones replacement. I know some will say that next years qb class will be weak, and to some degree it will, but there will be at least two or three qb prospects with a high first round grade. Very few people had Jayden Daniel's blowing up and going as high as second or third overall at this point last year. Every year someone blows up. There are several college quarterbacks this year that had really nice seasons who could develop into that can't miss guy. Sanders, Ewers and Cam Ward come to mind. We're stuck with Jones for this year. Finish rebuilding the line and the skill position players and then go big for a qb next year.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 20, 2024, 06:49:05 PMHearing the Broncos are offering teams #12 overall, Patrick Surtain, and a 2025 1st to move up in the draft and I'd be all over that as you'd have bookend corners and edge rushers moving forward.

They need a quarterback and if they're moving up they want the guy that they want. The million dollar question will be is the guy they covet going to be available at 6. That IMHO is doubtful. I'd take that deal so fast Payton's head would spin.

If the patriots are dumb enough to trade the 3rd pick overall for the 6th pick and an injury prone underachieving quarterback with a bad quarterback it'll be the most lopsided trade in league history. Sadly I don't think that Pats would be willing to rescue us from our own stupidity.

Quote from: AZGiantFan on April 20, 2024, 01:36:15 PMI think this is true, and I think it led to the downfall of DJ.

Never had a season where both the OL & WR were in the top half of the league.

2019:  Schurmer, Shula
2020:  Judge, Garrett, Schlupinski
2021:  Judge, Garrett/Kitchens, Schlupinski
2022:  Daboll, Kafka, Tierney
2023:  Daboll, Kafka, Tierney
2024:  Daboll, Kafka, Tierney

His first 3 years were hardly a good situation with that cluster flop of changing systems, changing coaches, no real QB coach his rookie year.  Then he got some consistency and showed improvement but was hammered by the almost criminal lack of preparation of the whole team due to the powder puff 2023 off-season program.

I'm not a big Mars fan but I agree with his statement that the Giants did everything possible to screw the kid up - and I hope he was looking in the mirror when he said it.

Interestingly enough I think this is the first time since Eli retired that we might have a line and skill position group that won't hold the quarterback back. Don't get me wrong they're not good enough to win the Super Bowl but it won't be like Jones first four years in the league.

The one mistake they could make is to go all in and move up in the draft because we need each of our picks. IMHO if someone offered us two firsts and a second to trade up with us I'd do it to continue to flesh out our roster hoping to go all in on a guy next year with the additional picks.

I've been saying for years that the Giants should draft more players out of the University of British Columbia. Glad to see it finally happening.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 11, 2024, 04:54:09 PMA'Shawn Robinson and Austin Johnson are the first two that come to mind. Not sure who else.

That's kinda the point. You and I would remember more if there were. When you have only $35 million in cap space and you want to give big money to Saquon, Jones and Lawrence you're probably going to have to have 30 players making the vet minimum.

FWIW he was never as good as Tippman. If you're using Tippman to judge JMS you're setting him up for failure. Tippman is a future pro bowler and JMS is going to be a good NFL starter. If we picked him over Tippman I'd be pissed but the Jets robbed us of that chance.
