 Myself, and most of us, are not privy to all the facts, but I believe that Baldwin should not be guilty of anything IF what they say, that he was just handed a gun, as a prop, and never even assumed it could be more than a prop, how can he be charged with manslaughter?

Hi guys. I was able to access some WiFi to check out responces to the game and just wanted to say hi.
We will be heading back soon and be home Friday. Weather has been great averaging about 82 with an always tropical breeze. No tan for me though as I stay out of the sun.
Looked in on Wordle and saw some really unique words.  Looking forward to joining the action again. My brain needs a workout after this.

Did you ever have a premonition about something, not act/or did act and that premonition come true?

I just read this about the all-time great boxer, Sugar Ray Robinson who was to have a fight against an opponent and had a dream that he knocked him out and killed him. It bothered him to no extent that he had to consult with a priest about it and was encouraged to continue with the fight.

Robinson, in fact, did fight, knocked out his opponent and that man did succumb to his injuries.

Just got a call from a friend and he asked me a question about this past year's tax returns. Seems he forgot to include a small pension that his wife received, under income, and he was wondering what to do now--file an amended return, let it go since it was never picked up by the IRS, or what? He said he received a lot more in a refund than he thought he would because that is probably the reason, so if he files an amended return does he have to return all or part of the money?
He always uses one of those online places where you enter the info and they do the figuring and e-file it for you. He said he went back about 5 years and always included that pension previously but, for some reason, this year it wasn't included so what should he do now?

Personally, I have no idea so I would hope some one here might have some experience in a matter like this?

 I have seen this before, but someone just sent it to me so I thought why not share it.

 I was going to mention this on the TV topic but thought maybe a good conversation piece here.

I just finished watching a 4 part documentary on Watergate, on CNN. I had this recorded months ago and just never gotten around to watching it, but I did over the past couple of days and it brought back so many memories. I would think most who post here remember Watergate, but as I watched, there was so much I had forgotten.

So this 4-part series, set as the 50th anniversary, has many of the original cast members who are alive and retells the story mostly from John Dean's views as he was the real cause, and downfall, of Richard Nixon when Nixon and his henchmen tried to make Dean the fall guy.
I believe we all know the story, but again, there is so much I had forgotten, or maybe didn't want to know, but now it all came back, in full detail.

An excellent watch and any comments on Watergate, as we remember it, would be nice.

We had discussed this series several months ago. I watched the documentary on Netflix and, as I said, we had a very lively discussion about it. We just got finished watching the series on HBO and in some ways, it was like watching a different take on the same story.

Just some background for any that haven't watched. The Staircase is a true story of Michael Peterson, who was accused of killing his wife by pushing her down a staircase among other things. The documentary is done by a French outfit wanting to show American justice but ended up being very pro-Peterson in the telling of the story. There are no actors and all the participants are the real people. I won't go into details of the story as it might take some of the drama out of it, but since it is true you can google it and see for yourself. I found it fascinating and still hold that Peterson is guilty, no doubt.

Now the HBO series has regular actors and still tries to tell the same story, but I really learned so many new things.

Many of the interviews that the documentary filmed were so rehearsed to make Peterson look so sympathetic. The documentary made the Peterson family look like the all-American family, so close, so loving, not so on the HBO series. Peterson had a harsh temper, his marriage wasn't all roses as the documentary portrayed, and his 4 children, which the documentary made they seem like the father was a God and they idolized him to no end, just wasn't the case in the HBO series.

I would recommend to anyone who wants a good drama to watch both and see how you feel.

I have never changed my mind about his guilt or innocence--I always felt he was as guilty as sin, and no matter how much he denied it, the facts were there. If I ws on that jury he would have fried.

Every year Hulu offers a special deal around this time of year. This year it is a full year of Hulu (with commercials) for $1.99 a month. The last year it was .99 cents a month but inflation I guess, still, it is a great deal. Yes, there are commercials but on Hulu, they are usually very short, most under 2 minutes.

 Has anyone been watching the conclusion to The Walking Dead series?

As I have said many times, I usually copy the entire thing and then watch as I please so I can remember everything that has happened. I did this over the weekend, thinking on Sunday was the finale, but I was one-off. There is one episode left and the entire run wraps up this Sunday.

So, just my take on these last few episodes. Like the previous couple of years, it hasn't been terrible, but it really hasn't been that good either. I can't think of any way they could make this great ever again, but just passable would be OK--and it is passable. The storyline is sort of interesting, but like several seasons before, they really do not know where to go with this, and the story is stale and predictable. The cast tries hard, but what really ails this series (and there could be a list), is that nowadays we have absolutely no fear that any character will die. To me, that is what made TWD so great (as well as GOT), no one was safe. I know we used to have threads here basically asking who is safe and the only real characters were Daryl and Carol (maybe Rick for a while). Everyone else was fair game and they used that to perfection. We lost countless characters, some who we liked and others who we were glad were eaten and eliminated. It would take me an hour to recall many of them, but faithful watchers know what I am talking about.
So fast forward to now. I don't think we have lost a major character in maybe 3 years. We lost Mishonne, but not to death and we gained Maggie back. Otherwise, the cast has been pretty much intact for a long while now and that has hurt the show, IMVHO.
I mentioned when Maggie returned that her scenes with Negan were great and I longed for more of them but, as with this show, for just too many seasons, it forgets characters for weeks on end and that really bothers me. Even now, I watched and wondered where the hell is Carol, Ezikial, and Aaron, as they have, shows basically dedicated to them, and then we don't see them for 2-3 weeks. Again, they have done this for way too long (I think this started when they escaped the prison, many years back).

 Then we have storylines that have been completely dropped. Like where is and what happened to the garbage dump lady, the other woman who appeared in the helicopter and gave plans or something to Maggie. For sure we don't even have a definite conclusion about Rick as he left with the garbage dump lady in a helicopter (and what about these helicopters). I have always said that our heroes have no idea if there even is another world outside of their own realm and seem to have no desire to even find out.

Anyway, one episode left and we are done. To say I am sad to see it end is just not so. it really should have ended years ago, when it was on top, instead of trying to squeeze every last drop of whatever out of it. Does anyone really care that it is finally over?

 The U.S. Navy invited me to try it.  I was thrilled.  I was pumped.  I was toast! 

I should've known when they told me my pilot would Be Chip (Biff) King of Fighter Squadron 213 at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach. 

 Whatever you're thinking a Top Gun named Chip (Biff) King looks like, triple it.  He's about six-foot, tan, ice-blue eyes, wavy surfer hair, finger-crippling handshake -- the kind of man who wrestles dyspeptic alligators in his leisure time.  If you see this man, run the other way.  Fast. 

 Biff King was born to fly.  His father, Jack King, was for years the voice of NASA missions.  ('T-minus 15 seconds and counting'. Remember?)  Chip would charge neighborhood kids a quarter each to hear his dad.  Jack would wake up from naps surrounded by nine-year-olds waiting for him to say, 'We have lift off'.

 Biff was to fly me in an F- 14D Tomcat, a ridiculously powerful $60 million Weapon with nearly as much thrust as weight, not unlike Colin Montgomerie.  I was worried about getting airsick, so the night before the flight I asked Biff if there was something I should eat the next morning.

 Bananas,' he said.

'For the potassium?'  I asked.

'No,' Biff said, 'because they taste about the same coming up as they do going down.'

 The next morning, out on the tarmac, I had on my flight suit with my name sewn over the left breast.  (No call sign -- like Crash or Sticky or Lead foot.  But, still, very cool.)  I carried my helmet in the crook of my arm, as Biff had instructed.  If ever in my life I had a chance to nail Nicole Kidman, this was it. 

 A fighter pilot named Psycho gave me a safety briefing and then fastened me into my ejection seat, which, when employed, would 'egress' me out of the plane at such a velocity that I would be immediately knocked unconscious.

 Just as I was thinking about aborting the flight, the canopy closed over me, and Biff gave the ground crew a thumbs-up. In minutes we were firing nose up at 600 mph. We leveled out and then canopy-rolled over another F-14. 

 Those 20 minutes were the rush of my life.  Unfortunately, the ride lasted 80.  It was like being on the roller coaster at Six Flags Over Hell.  Only without rails.  We did barrel rolls, snap rolls, loops, yanks and banks.  We dived, rose and dived again, sometimes with a vertical velocity of 10,000 feet per minute.  We chased another F-14, and it chased us.

 We broke the speed of sound.  Sea was sky and sky was sea.  Flying at 200 feet we did 90-degree turns at 550 mph, creating a G force of 6.5, which is to say I felt as if 6.5 times my body weight was smashing against me, thereby approximating life as Mrs. Colin Montgomerie. 

And I egressed the bananas.

And I egressed the pizza from the night before.

And the lunch before that.

I egressed a box of Milk Duds from the sixth grade.

I made Linda Blair look polite.  Because of the G's, I was egressing stuff that never thought would be egressed. 

I went through not one airsick bag, but two. 

 Biff said I passed out.  Twice... I was coated in sweat.  At one point, as we were coming in upside down in a banked curve on a mock bombing target and the G's were flattening me like a tortilla and I was in and out of consciousness, I realized I was the first person in history to throw down. 

 I used to know 'cool'.  Cool was Elway throwing a touchdown pass, or Norman making a five-iron bite.  But now I really know 'cool'.  Cool is guys like Biff, men with cast-iron stomachs and freon nerves.  I wouldn't go up there again for Derek Jeter's black book, but I'm glad Biff does every day, and for less a year than a rookie reliever makes in a home stand. 

 A week later, when the spins finally stopped, Biff called.  He said he and the fighters had the perfect call sign for me.  Said he'd send it on a patch for my flight suit.

 What is it?  I asked.

'Two Bags.'

 This is NOT a political thread, but we are registered Democrats, and both my wife and I were thinking about changing our affiliation to Independent. No particular reason, just we are a bit dissatisfied with each party and if we wanted to change, how does one go about doing so?

Is anyone, besides myself, hard of hearing? Wear a hearing aid? I do and a few years ago, I was at a senior fair where this organization, Clear Captions, offers free phones, where the words come up as you speak, to anyone who might need something like this. I have used this phone for several years especially when I speak to my grandkids, or people who have heavy accents (like on help call lines) to understand what they are saying.
I just got the latest version of this phone installed a few minutes ago and in many cases, it is a lifesaver for me.

A while back, someone posted (I think it was Ed) about the possibility of getting together to watch a game--somewhere. It seemed to have been shelved, but why?

I had suggested an early game like Oct 2 vs the Bears. If this is still on the table, count me in. Other Sundays during the month of October have several Jewish Holidays, so I don't know if I could make it.

Come on guys, pick a date and a place and announce it to the membership and let's do it.

a long time ago in a different place, we used to have a get-together at Manny's, near Giants Stadium a great place for all Giants fans to watch a game. Bob and I used to do this for several years, along with Patti.

Again, even if we get a small group it's worth it.

Just a heads up. I think I mentioned this a while ago, but, if not, we are off, traveling again starting Wednesday nite and going thru Sept 18. So no wordle for me during that time. In reality, I don't know when I might even be able to get online as we will be at sea for 3 weeks. I'll even miss our first game unless I can see it on the ship.

A good topic for discussion as many condemned the USA for the wanton killing of over 100,000 innocent civilians and then did it again, at Nagasaki 3 days later.

In my very humble mind, the act by then-new president Truman was one of the biggest decisions an American President ever had to make and it was the right one. The US had prevailed upon Japan to surrender or face the worst ever consequences, and, as we know, they refused.
We were already preparing to invade Japan and they would have cost the USA untold deaths and casualties.

As I said, many condemned Truman and the US for this action, but it WAs the right decision.

Before you look at this it may well contain spoilers from movies or TV shows that you may want to watch and have not seen and then you might know a certain character has died.

I could also add a couple of characters from Breaking Bad to the list.

Many of the movies or TV shows I haven't seen, but this is not who should not have been killed off, just memorable characters who did, in fact, pass away on said show.
