Agree with all of them. I can add one. I never got through an episode without laughing if Bob Newhart was in the show. Never has there been a better "straight guy" either surrounded by idiots or dealing with an awkward situation

Yes. Bob was great.

I never really watched the original Bob Newhart Show, but loved the second one with Daryl, Daryl, and Larry. Funny as hell, which made me start watching the original and it was just as good. Definately belongs on any list.

The old show "Becker" with Ted Danson as Dr. Becker used to be hilarious. Unlike Newhart, he was an angry straight man surrounded by idiots except that he was crotchety and short of patience with anyone he had to deal with

I loved Danson from Cheers and I watched some of this show, but it never really made me want to watch after a year or so.

You forgot Ralph Kramden and Ed Norton.  LOL

Without a doubt Bob. How could I have omitted those two?

The Front Porch / Funniest characters ever on TV
May 29, 2022, 12:48:22 PM

I was thinking about this last night so I took to the internet to see what others think. To my surprise, most of the characters listed were from the sort of 'modern day' shows, which, to me, most aren't near as funny as some characters from years ago.
As with any list, it is so subjective, especially as to your age, what you deem as funny, and types of humor (slapstick, racy, dark, etc). Myself, I feel I am a fan of all humor, except humor that is done by just saying dirty words. I find ensemble casts funny mostly because of the writing and shows like MASH which I loved, the characters were serious as much as really funny.

So, this is my own list and it is only from TV characters, not from stand-up comediennes.

To me, maybe the funniest TV character EVER was Jim Ignatowski from Taxi. I was a huge fan of this show and really everyone on it was funny.
I would also add Louie DePalma as another I would put in my top ten.  And I would put Taxi in my list of top 5 comedy shows ever on TV.

After that my list would be

Lucy
Archie Bunker
Larry David
Tim Conway
Laverne and Shirley
Niles Crane
Norm and Cliff (Cheers) (Just another great cast and would also be in my top 5  comedies ever)
Barney Fife
AND, believe it or not--Kermit the Frog (I was and still am, a HUGE fan of the old The Muppett Show and just loved the Swedish Chef and Sam the Eagle)

Give me more time and I will think of others

4 for me also. I was in the same situation as Ed. I had 4 yellows after 3 words and just stared at it for maybe 5 minutes and then it sort of appeared.

On a side note, I am very negligent in doing this every day. Things come up and I always seem to miss a day here and there especially when we are traveling so my longest 'streak' is only 15, which I am at again today. Barring anything really out of the ordinary, I hope to continue extending my 'streak' until I forget to do it again.

ON the mainboard, I put up a few of my pics from Memorial Places I have visited.

One of my favorite cities EVER is Washington DC. It is heaven for a photographer with just so many wonderful monuments and attractions known worldwide. I can fill these pages for a week with many of the pics I have taken there, but because this is Memorial Day weekend, I want to focus on Arlington National Cemetery. If you have never been there and are thinking of taking a trip to DC, do NOT miss this place. It is just over the bridge into Virginia and between visiting the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, JFK's grave and so many other famous graves that are in this cemetery, it will not disappoint.

On our last visit, we stayed for the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It happens every hour (sometimes every 1/2 hour) 24 hours a day 365 days a year, regardless of the weather or anything else.

If anyone is interested, here is what the Medal Of Honor looks like

Arlington Cemetery

If you don't know who Audie Murphy was, he was the most decorated American Soldier EVER

And last the memorial for JFK

So we finished the Lincoln Lawyer last night and to say I wasn't really thrilled with it would be a polite way of putting it.No offense to Ric, but as it went on I just found it less appealing. Look, it wasn't terrible in that I wanted to watch it till the end, but when the trial wrapped up in episode 9 and they really filled episode 10 with just a mish-mash of things that I had absolutely no interest in, that sort of sealed its fate in my mind. Oh, and my darling wife felt the same way.

If you like these types of lawyer shows, go for it.

Getting primed for this weekend's History Channel documentary "Theodore Roosevelt" starting May 30. Preview here:

https://play.history.com/shows/theodore-roosevelt/videos/preview-theodore-roosevelt

History Channel's documentaries on the presidents (e.g. Washington, Grant, Lincoln) have been both masterful and insightful to the presidential era as well as the human being in office. Can't wait!

Peace!

I already have the DVR set for that also. Looking forward to it.

I also do Sudoku almost every day. In our daily paper, they get progressively harder each day, so I don't even bother with Mon-Wed. but on Sunday, I get it about 1/2 the time and feel great when I do.
For whatever reason, Math was always my best subject and English (vocabulary) my weakest, so my Wordle adventures I enjoy. If they ever moved to 6 letter words, I would be out in a minute and throw a Jumble at me and I could sit and stare at it all day and never get it.

Forgive me if I posted this sometime in the past...I can't remember if I did or not and don't feel like going through 65 pages of past jokes. It's still worth it even if I posted it a few years ago

Paddy's pregnant sister was in a terrible car accident and went into a deep coma. After being in the coma for nearly six months, she woke up and saw that she was no longer pregnant. Frantically, she asked the doctor about her baby.

The doctor replied, 'Well ma'am, you had twins.... a boy and a girl. The babies are fine, however, they were poorly at birth and had to be christened immediately so your brother Paddy came in and named them.'

The woman thought to herself, 'Oh suffering Jehosaphat, no, not me brother, he's a clueless idiot...'

Expecting the worst, she asked the doctor, 'Well, what's my daughter's name?'

'Denise,' said the doctor. The new mother was greatly relieved.  'Whew.....Wow, that's a beautiful name, Perhaps I was wrong about my brother,' she thought....'I really like Denise.'

Then she asked, 'So what's my boy's name?'

The doctor replied,  'Denephew.'

I do remember this one and it is good to laugh at it all over again.  Thanks

Good ones Lenn

I read this twice and said to myself, "that isn't funny". Third time I read it I laughed, not only because it's funny, but because I'm soooo slow sometimes

Ha, I said it was food for DEEP thought. I sort of did the same thing with the camouflage one.

Food for really 'deep' thought
