I have been hearing about this for the past couple of weeks, but haven't had the time to sit and watch any of it yet. I think the sub-titles are what is putting me off, but I think I will give it a go. It seems to be a kind of Adult Hunger Games type of thing.

Lou

As I said it is dubbed in English so you do not need the subtitles. I use them as I miss too many words and I can't blast the TV.

I never watched the Hunger Games so I can't compare, but this is pretty good and it sure isn't a kid's show.

An old physician, Doctor Gordon Geezer, became very bored in retirement and decided to re-open a medical clinic.
He put a sign up outside that said: "Dr. Geezer's Clinic. Get your treatment for $500 - if not cured, get back $1,000."
Doctor Digger Young, who was positive that this old geezer didn't know beans about medicine, thought this would be a great opportunity to get $1,000.
So he went to Dr. Geezer's clinic.
Dr. Young: "Dr. Geezer, I have lost all taste in my mouth. Can you please help me?"

Dr. Geezer: "Nurse, please bring medicine from Box 22 and put 3 drops in Dr. Young's mouth."
Dr. Young: 'Aaagh! -- This is Gasoline!"
Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations!
You've got your taste back. That will be $500.

In my 'earlier' days of youth, I was never a fan of movie musicals. Sure I saw Sound of Music and My Fair Lady etc. but I wouldn't go out of my way to see a musical on film. You know, when they released 'That's Entertainment I, then 2 and then 3, I started rewatching a lot of these movies and, as you alluded to, those 'production' numbers were terrific.
For myself, I was never a huge fan of Astaire and never really loved his movies, but I surely respected his talent. I was more of a Gene Kelley guy and liked his style of dance a lot more than Astaire.

BTW, I used to hate those Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland 'let's put on a show' musicals. Can't say why, but I still don't care for them.

Now Rita Hayworth, that is in a different league.

Bob

For more years than I care to remember, most movie musicals came from hit Broadway shows. The songs became standards both from movies and Broadway. Really, what was the last Broadway show that they made a movie musical about, Mama Mia??  Even hit shows like Hamilton really didn't have any major songs that became standards and surprisingly, no movie version.

Funny, I really didn't care for LaLa Land that much. Maybe because I didn't know any of the songs, but that art form is now dead and buried, only to live on in these montages for old guys like us to reminisce.

That said here is another

There have been numerous montages of dance routines, clips, etc from movies that I have posted previously. I have received a few new ones and if anyone is interested, please sit back and enjoy. Things like this are never to be seen in movies anymore.

Maybe the best of the lot is a montage assembled to Uptown Funk

There was the original and then another version of a bit more 'modern' films. then still another.

She's got the intellectual box checked, Len!  :P

Tim

No one questioned her intellect, but, as I said, she doesn't come off as one. She seems like a very nice woman who should be on the View or something like that.

Maybe it's my male genes talking.   =)) =)) =)) =)) =)) =)) =))

I'm not thrilled with Ms. Bailik. She is OK, but, to me, there is something about her that doesn't suit me. Maybe because I am so used to a male as the host, not that females can't do the job, but people like Trebeck seemed like he could be an intellectual, and, to me, that should be a requirement as a host of an intellectual show, more than just a game show. Ms. Bailik seems like a host for the Match Game and not Jeopardy.  Anyway, just my opinion, since you asked.

And now there is more

Fans think he purposely threw the game so he could get back to his Ph.D. studies.

Personally I doubt that very much, but even I knew the final Jeopardy answer and I seriously can't believe he didn't.

I don't know if anyone watches this show, or has been watching for the past month or more. We do try and watch as often as we can, but when we heard about the new Jeopardy guy who was winning over a million dollars and really seemed unbeatable, we started watching every day.

Matt Amodio was the 'new' guy who was going to try and beat Ken Jennings's record of most wins and money. Really, he seemed unbeatable, until yesterday

https://www.msn.com/en-us/movies/news/who-is-jonathan-fisher-meet-the-man-who-ended-matt-amodio-s-jeopardy-streak/ar-AAPqcfV?ocid=msedgntp

When he was dethroned by Johnathon Fisher.

Maybe we are out there, but I always suspected that Jeopardy sort of needs guys/gals like this who bring added viewers back to the TV to watch. Like a super Mega lottery that makes everyone buy a ticket, Jeopardy sort of needs a super contestant every so often to promote their show. Could it be a coincidence or more in planning? I have always felt when something like this needs to happen, they find someone, ultra-smart, and pair him with contestants who might not be as brainy. They have to know who might be a better contestant and who might be a weaker player.

Whatever, if you didn't see Matt Amodio play you missed a great contestant, and, for sure, he will be part of any Jeopardy HOF players.

On a recommendation from 3 friends, I started watching 'Squid Game" a new series on Netflix. On reading about it, it seems to be the #1 new show on Netflix, or, at least, the #1 most-watched show as of now.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10919420/

I have watched the first 2 episodes and I will continue to watch it.

For those that never heard of this, it is a Korean show, dubbed in English and with English subtitles for those that need it, like me.

Story or plot-- Some unknown people gather up many people (volunteer wise) into playing a game where they could win a lot of money. Most of people need money badly, as our so-called hero does. It is hard to explain this--so they are assigned a number and told they will play six games and those that finish will be given a lot of money. The first game is the child game, Red Light/Green Light. I really can't or shouldn't say anymore as you have to view it and see the result.

I can say if you don't like blood, don't watch.

I'll keep you informed but it is something different and could be addictive.

Scary stuff, as if we don't have enough to scare us.

As the entire world becomes more and more dependent on the internet for survival, it makes it easier and easier to disrupt an entire country or even a world.

We used to see those old James Bond movies about some super freak who has this superweapon that with a push of a button can destroy an entire city. That was scary, but this makes that seem like child's play.

At least, if the inevitable happens, as they predict, I'll be safe as my house is old-fashioned and nothing works by way of the internet, except my computer.
