 All nice rides.

Come on Tim, you deal with cars, you must have some sweet rides.

Ed, what is your favorite 'Vette'?

While the OL is, and has been, one of our major problems, it is NOT, far and away, the #1 reason why we are so bad. We had a similar OL the year before and we won more than we lost. They were good enough to get us into the playoffs. The main reason why we stunk so badly was just horrible QB play from our well-paid, supposedly talented, Jones.  When we used other QBs, we were bad but we were reasonably competitive--same OL, same RB, same WR. Again, our OL was one of the worst in the league, but a capable QB, we managed with it.
After that, I will throw in coaching. I think the team was terribly prepared to play most games this season. Be it the 'players coach' not getting his message across, to our incapable OC who never seemed to get that his QB was under siege and adjust the game plan to fit what we had on the field. Throw in a terrible OL coach, and our training staff who can't keep guys off of IR and we had a mess.
NOT by far, the OL line's entire fault, except when you believe our QB is wonderful, then sure blame the OL.

The Front Porch / Your Favorite Car
March 02, 2024, 12:13:08 PM

I got to thinking yesterday what was the best or favorite car I had ever driven. In my 77 years, I have owned many cars. I have not stayed loyal to any one particular car maker, just what I felt was best for me at the time.

I didn't start driving until I was 24 and out of the service. My first ever car was a Ford Maverick that I bought while in Germany as they gave any returning GIs a great rate. I had that car for 2 years and it was a bomb.
I decided to go for something a single, mid-20-year-old would like. I bought a 1966 Pontiac LeMans which I loved.

I met my future wife with this car and for me especially it was a change from the old bench-style front seats to what was now common bucker seats. When we got married we traded that in for what was now the 'new' thing a foreign car with style, an Audi. We kept that car until we broke down on a trip and found it near impossible to get parts for when not in or near a metropolitan area.
Now the kids came along and we went thru all sorts of 'family' cars, wagons, mini-vans, etc. from the old Doge Dart, to Chrysler Town and Country to all sorts of assorted others. I also need a wagon or minivan for work so we were comfortable with those.
After that, when the Japanese started really to dominate the market, I went with Toyotas, Nissons, and a Mitsubitshi somewhere in there.
I now drive a Subaru Forrester and love it. But it brings me to what this thread was all about, the best car I ever drove. We were cruising in Hawaii and we overnighted in Maui. We decided to rent a car and do our own thing. I rented a Dodge something but when we went to secure the car there were out of them. They offered me, at the same rate either a Dodge Charger or a Ford Mustang Convertible. I had never had a convertible in my life and never driven anything like a Mustang, so we opted for that and to this day I never regretted it. THAT was my favorite ride ever. We had that car for 2 days, cruising all over Maui, top-down and since we brought some CDs along, we had the best of Roy Orbison blaring on the radio. You couldn't believe the looks we got as we drove that car all over Maui. When we got home I looked into buying one for myself but once I saw the price I got sticker shock.
In another port, we also had an overnight and we got a Chrysler PT Cruiser convertible. Since I couldn't afford the Mustang, we did go home and buy a PT Cruiser, but not a convertible

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giant Players rank their coach

Quote from: MightyGiants on March 02, 2024, 10:53:54 AMA couple of thoughts

Daboll's A- earned him a 7-way tie for 13th.  I am not sure how that ranks him "among the best."

The greatest of all time, Bill Belichick, was in a 4-way tie for 27th.  Does anyone think, even now, that Bill Belichick is one of the worst QBs in the league:

I think the rankings are more about how the players felt or felt about playing for certain coaches. I can understand why many Giants players love to play for Daboll, if, in fact, he never yells at them. I can also see how playing for BB, especially when the Pats are losing badly, can be a problem. One thing is for sure, he isn't a player's coach.

Watch him fo to another team and become a reliable back-up or even a starter. How many times have we seen this from OL that the Giants have released? Maybe better coaching might have made a difference?

When I was young, I decided I wanted to be a doctor so I took the entrance exam to go to Medical School.
One of the questions asked us to rearrange the letters PNEIS into the name of an important human body part which is most useful when erect.

Those who answered SPINE are doctors today.

The rest of us are sending jokes via email.

On our last cruise, I got very sick and had to go to Mecial on our ship. Just walking in the door of Medical and seeing a doctor is over $300. I was treated for 5 days and ended up with a bill of almost $4000 which is NOT covered by most private medical plans. That's why we buy trip insurance which did cover most of the costs.

We have finished the first season of this detective series, True Detective and to be perfectly honest, I do not see what all the fuss was about. It gets great ratings but we found it boring, and talky and really had no clue as to what was going on for a good part of the series. It did wrap up nicely in the last episode, but until then, whew. Personally, I would not recommend it to anyone.

We did watch a new movie, I believe was on Hulu, 'Pricilla", a story about the relationship between Pricilla  (whatever her last name was before) and Elvis--how they met, how he sort of fell for her, how he got her parents approval to date her and alter have her move into Graceland until they finally broke up. Look, we are huge Elvis fans, and anything to do with him, his relationships, and his marriage was a good thing to watch. We both liked it, although I wouldn't rate it as great. It still amazes me how a giant like Elvis could even consider dating a teenager like Pricilla. She was something like 15 when she met him. What was wrong with the guy?

I agree with Ed, in that Jimmy was a much more tragic figure, as Steve said, he always looked for the easy way out and only applied himself when there was something shady going on. He could have been that 'hero' but instead chose the dark side.

As Walter White, his intentions were mostly always good. He was trying to provide for his family when his death was to come. He really cared about Jesse as their relationship grew. He may have turned evil, but I still believe, in the back of his soul, he knew right from wrong. If he wasn't dying, he never would have entered the drug business just to make money. His goal was financial security for his family.

Giants Players Send Loud, Unified Message on Brian Daboll

The New York Giants locker room has spoken, and they still love playing for Brian Daboll despite a miserable 2023 campaign.

According to the 2024 "NFL Player Team Report Cards," which were released by the NFLPA on February 28, Daboll's approval rating as a head coach is still among the best in the league. NYG player polling earned the Big Blue boss an A- during a survey that was "administered from August 26 through November 16" of last year.

Tim

You said it well. It was great seeing you and Sharon once again and well worth the trip. I wish it could happen more often.
Good food and great company.

I know it wasn't asked but QB is still the biggest need.
We have 2 #2 picks and we can share up the OL there. I'm sorry but we aren't winning the SB this year, just trying to improve so there are more needs than a big time WR. Edge is a bigger need and then safety if McKinney leaves. A big time WR is nice but not for a struggling team. That can come next year.
