The Front Porch / Re: Let's Try Movie Quotes Again...

I've been watching some other 'oldies' set in and around the holiday season so they are considered holiday movies.

If you love 'oldies' try these on for size

(No softballs here) (I'm giving you tow quotes from the same movie

#1-- She was sort of a medium built, medium height. With a nice evening gown on with a belt in the back. She's sorta built like the girl I knew from the corner drugstore who used to play pinball. Conshwella Schlepkiss. I remember she was high man three weeks in a row.

#2-- My father was a lot like you, just a man with a family. Never amounted to much, didn't care. But as long as he was alive, we always had plenty to eat and clothes to keep us warm.

-Were you happy?

Yes.

Then your father was a very successful man.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And the second movie, also an oldie. (one of my all time favorite holiday movies

"There might be a lot we don't know about each other. You know, people seldom go to the trouble of scratching the surface of things to find the inner truth."

"Well I really wouldn't care to scratch your surface, Mr. Kralik, because I know exactly what I'd find. Instead of a heart, a hand-bag. Instead of a soul, a suitcase. And instead of an intellect, a cigarette lighter... which doesn't work."

Since it was supposed to be visible. it has been cloudy every single evening. We had a couple of nice days but by 4 PM the clouds were all around so I couldn't even see it, let alone photograph it.

I'll guess I'll have to wait 800 years till the next viewing.

I saw two more good movies on tubi.

The Way Back: A handful of prisoners including one American(Ed Harris) and a thug(Colin Ferrell) escape a harsh Siberian prison camp and trek 900 miles through mountains and deserts to reach freedom.

Transsiberian: Woody Harrelson plays an innocent and naive husband that just completed a missionary trip with his wife in China. They decide to take a side trip on the Transsiberian railroad before they go back to America. They meet a young couple on the train that turn out to be shady. Harrelson and his wife get tangled up in danger, drug dealers and crooked Russian Cops.

I've seen them both. Good watches--not exceptional but entertaining enough.

I'm sure you've seen it, Jim. I wouldn't consider it a Christmas movie per see, but it is listed with Christmas movies.

I would LOVE to be able to photograph this event. My longest lenses is a 300MM, but listening to the weather forecast for the week, they say cloudy most days. Don't know if we will even be able to see this.

Lenn: Well, son of a.....  you got it.  Congrats.  Incidentally, my friend came up with The Shirelles "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" also recorded by the Carole King, who wrote the song.  Technically, that's a wrong answer since I was specifically referring to the SAME artist recording it twice, each time it was a hit, and yes Neil Sedaka wrote and recorded (twice) his great song two different ways (in 1962 and 1975) and both went on to be hit pop records.  Bob

I have ONE genre of music that I like--what I refer to as 'oldies' and Doo-Wop style, you know 50's and 60's. As not with many here, I never got into hard rock or anything like that, so I stick with what I like and know. Your question sort of fit right into that and Neil Sedaka is one of my favorites from that time frame.

Funny, for many, many years, we always went up to the Dutchess County Fair in Rhinebeck NY. Every year they had a free concert series and we always tried to see someone we know. Mostly country singers who I also like very much, but one year they had Neil Sedaka there and he did sing BOTH versions of that song. So even me, with a memory that fades as soon as I walk away, did remember that.

Finished watching the Mandalorian Season 2. Didn't see that ending coming..

Am also watching Peaky Blinders now - midway through season 1 now. Worth watching.

I tried that but the accents for me is so hard to understand. I usually watch with the captions on, but use them to pick up some of the words I miss. On this series which several people have recommended, I just really had a hard time following along and was missing the context of the show trying to do that.
