Paddy had long heard the story of an amazing family tradition. He Had been told
that his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather all were able to walk on water on their 18th birthday. On that special day, they'd each walked across the lake to the pub on the far side for their first legal drink.

When Paddy's 18th birthday came around, he and his pal Jim took a boat out to the middle of the lake, Paddy, stepped out of the boat... and nearly drowned!!  Jim just barely managed to pull him to safety.

Furious and confused, Paddy went to see his grandmother. "Grandma," he asked, "Tis me 18th birthday, so why can't I walk across the lake like me father, his father and his father before him?"
Granny looked deeply into Paddy's, troubled blue eyes and said,
"Because ye father, ye grandfather and ye great-grandfather were all born in January, when the lake is frozen, and ye were born in August, ya idiot!"

If you didn't get that one, I'd be terribly disappointed.

Here is another movie that has become a holiday movie.

" Attention, whoever you are, this channel is reserved for emergency calls only.

No  xxxx, lady! Does it sound like I'm ordering a pizza?"

Much like Lenn, I have always wanted to get a great shot of lightning but it has yet to happen.
Those pictures of yours are just phenomenal, Moose!!

I agree Moose, just amazing shots.

BTW, where are you now. I live in West Hempstead for the past 25 years.

The Front Porch / Re: What are we watching these days?
December 10, 2020, 12:53:03 PM

We started watching 'The Crown' on Netflix. We are now into season 2 and I would recommend it to one and all. Not much action, but it is mostly based on fact and we find it fascinating.
For anyone not familiar with The Crown, it is the story of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip and basically starts when her father, King George dies and she takes over The Crown. The mention one this ng in the very beginning that we realized even then, will be the theme of the series. 'No matter how you feel, or what you feel, The Crown takes president over everything".
There has been much publicity recently over the new season as it deals with Princess Diana and Prince Charles and several prominent people have been trying to keep shows from airing as it doesn't portray certain people in a very good light.
Anyway, we like it very much and gives you a GREAT insight in how Britain and it's politics have evolved.

Ok, I finished watching Dexter. I saw the final episode last night. Overall I will say I liked the series, but yes, the way it ended left me disappointed on a few levels. I enjoyed each season, and some were better than others, but to have it end the way it did was just kind of a let down...
Oh well...onto something new. What will I choose next???
Lou

Haw, I told you so. That was one of the worst endings for a truly great series. Overall, as many said, the series should have ended a couple of seasons earlier and it just got to be repetitious, but we fans, stayed with it, only to be truly let down by the way it ended. Now someone said they may resurrect it. Will they bring Dexter home from the wilderness?

Out of all the lighthouses on OBX, Bodie is just so much more photogenic than the others.

I am just an amateur compared to some others. I know nothing of photoshop and usually just try and enhance the pics just a bit. Frank has done some amazing things with these 'tools. I also don't get very technical. I know some, but usually shoot on automatic unless I am in low light where I will try and open things up a bit longer. I just LOVE to look at other people's work and get ideas for myself. Your night shots are simply amazing and I would love to even get neat that.

My biggest challenge is trying to shoot lightning strikes. I just can't seem to get that at all. Have you done that and any hints would be appreciated.

Give you another hint, it was a comedy and here's another line

"First we'll make snow angels for a two hours, then we'll go ice skating, then we'll eat a whole roll of Tollhouse Cookiedough as fast as we can, and then we'll snuggle."

Just a magnificent shot Moose.

We know that lighthouse very well from our few times on OBX.

We were driving back from Cape Hatteras about 3 in the afternoon when the fog just rolled in in seconds. I couldn't believe how dark it got really, in a matter of minutes.

We stopped at Bodie Light and I took a few pix. Nothing like yours, but I always thought it was a good shot.

Another time we went to this lighthouse for a few pix at sunset.

Funny story about this last shot. We were walking along the boardwalk,. back to our car when this huge possum ran out on the boardwalk and literally scared the you know what out of us. Being city folk, we haven't had many encounters with possums.

Good job Philo, but that was a real softball.

So let's stay in the Holiday spirit, another fairly easy one

Lenn, I just traded in my old gear and purchased a new camera and lens.  I got a great deal from Adorama, the official camera store of the NY Giants.  I had been looking at the Sony Alpha A7RII 42 MP camera for awhile but when they came across with this deal I couldn't turn it down.  The deal was $898.00 for the camera and a sony 28 - 70 F3.5 - F5.6 E mount lens for $398.  So I'm now in the full frame mirrorless world which we discussed awhile ago.  The trade in of three lenses and a nikon D7200 crop camera was about $1,000 so it came to a net of $300.00.  In addition, it came with a Vivitar ND Filter set (3 in the set), a shoulder bag, 1 Extreme Pro 128 GB San Disk card, an Optical Care and Cleaning Kit, and Corel PC-Photo-Video-Art Software Suite.

Frank

Sounds exciting. Enjoy the new toys. I am nowhere near that point yet so I'll have to 'suffer' with my Canon.
