The Front Porch / Re: What are we watching these days?

Just finished watching the final episode of 'The Boy's" on Prime and, as was season one, it was another great year.

Don't know if anyone else has watched this really Black Comedy (I think they really need a new category for this one), but it wrapped up pretty well if there won't be another season. Let's hope there is. A very good watch.

Actually, they were all softballs for you, Lenny.

Most were. You've used that quote from the Virginian several times. I just paid attention.

We are finally going out on a road trip to our favorite place, the White Mountains of NH. From what I have read, seems we already missed peak foliage, so we will have to settle for scraps, but I find good shots everywhere, you just have to know where to look.

I'll post more Fall shots as I go, but I just wanted to continue on our Alaska adventure that  we went on after our time in the Pacific Northwest.
We have had the great fortune to have visited Alaska 3 times now, all on cruises. The pixs I am going to put up are from our second trip, and, as I said, right after we toured the Northwest.

If anyone does do a cruise to Alaska try to do one that cruises to Glacial Bay National Park. Every cruise does have a stop at a glacier, but Glacial Bay is simply spectacular. At one time only a few crusie lines were able to go there, now I'm not sure, but they only allow 2 or 3 ships in at a time. Again, truly just a spectacular place

This is Mendenhall Glacier, right in the city of Juneau

One of the ports we stopped at Ketchikan, Alaska, there was a small animal shelter where they helped animals that were injured. They had several eagles there which were more than happy to pose for me

And Mr Owl

And our last port, was Victoria, British Columbia. We stopped there just before dark and stayed until late, but this is their like Parliment building, lit up at twilight

More when we get back.

This one took me a while.

I kind of knew you'd get that one.  Jean Harlow.

I also thought you would get #1. Give this one another shot, It was a Best Pix Oscar winner. Thre is a much more famous quote which if I told you, would get it in a second.

#3 I thought maybe, but it is from A Star Is Born, the 1937 version.
#6 was from Pride and Prejudice

I am currently in the middle of Season 5 of Dexter on Netflix and I know a few other folks on here enjoyed the series.
I just heard that Showtime is bringing it back for a 10 episode season sometime in 2021.
I don't know how the series ended originally (haven't gotten there yet), but I know some didn't like the ending, maybe this will tie up some loose ends?
Too bad it's Showtime and not Netflix. Hopefully Netflix will get the rights to it soon after Showtime premieres it.

p.s. - I didn't read the entire article due to spoilers. I don't want to know how it ends until I actually get there!

As I believe we have meantioned, yes Dexter had one of the disappointing (and stupidest) endings especially for fans who stuck with it for all those years. There were no lose ends to tie up, it ended very conclusively, just very unsatisfying and if I say more, it might spoil your enjoyment of it.

Since you are onto season 5, I truly felt Season 4 was the best. I never saw it coming in the way they ended Season 4 and that was one of the biggest shocks I got from watching TV dramas. I just never saw that coming. Again, I won't reveal what happened as I don't want to spoil anything for others who might be watching, or who might watch at some future time.

Overall, still a great series, but you will see a sort of decline as you get to the last year or so.

Just terrible news. I also remember meeting Phyllis at our get togethers. She always had a smile on her face.

My deepest condolences to Rick and his family at this time. This year has been terrible and it just got worse.

All we can offer is shoulder to lean on Rick, and if you need to talk, you know we will always be here for you.

Many of the last few movie have come from what some of us see as 'newer' movies

So why don't you try some 'older' movie quotes. If you are a fan of movies, makes no difference when a movie was made, you need to enjoy them all

The leftovers with clues:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

"If you want justice, go to a whorehouse. If you want to get fvcked, go to court" [Richard Gere / Edward Norton] Primal Fear  To be honest I had to Googel Gere and then decided on which movie

(clue: one of the best legal dramas ever...and scary as hell)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

A few more clues:

[Reese Witherspoon]
: "You fvcker! You killed my grandma!"
[Kiefer Sutherland]: "That's not all I did to grandma"  ????????????????? Like the other, I Googles Reese's movie and still don't have a clue.

(Another clue: a spoof made on "Little Red Riding Hood")

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

"He's not a President. He's an ordinary person. I can kill an ordinary person."   Dave

(no clue given as this one is just too easy...must be a lot of people haven't seen this thread because it's that easy) Kevin Kline, Sigourney Weaver
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a confession booth:
"Bless me, Father, for I have just killed quite a few men"
"No sh!t"

(another fairly easy one IMO. Clue: incredible amount of death and blood, even Tarantino in a cameo appearance gets shot in the face and his head blown off [now it's a gimmee])

When you mentioned Tarantino and all that blood, I was going to say Reservoir Dogs, but I believe it is Desperato

(I like the Eagles Desperato much better)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Because a split second before the torque wrench was applied to the faucet handle, it had been calibrated by top members of the state and federal Departments of Weights and Measures, to be dead-on balls accurate."
"Dead-on balls accurate"?
"It's an industry term."

Again, great cast, and I simply love Devito in anything, but I just never got into Teavolta's character and just didn't like the movie. Maybe I'll give it another shot one day, but I enjoyed the clip.

Did you ever see Ruthless People with Bette Midler and Devito. I laugh just thinking about it.

Great episode yesterday. Things are really starting to what up. I hate that I have to wait an entire week to see more.

Yup - good job. I thought the "We Bought a Zoo" might be tough...kind of an obscure movie that really showcased the talent of Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson.

There was a lot of good quotes in "Get Shorty" that would be obvious, but the one I picked was also a little less so.

Funny, I hated Get Shorty and the second one also. Can't really say why, but I just never got into it. BUT, I LOVED, We Bought a Zoo, as did my wife. Just a great feel good movie and it hit the spot at the right time. Wish more people would have seen it.
