Quote from: Painter on January 19, 2024, 05:16:38 PMFor me the bigger issue now is not where Schoen went wrong re FA, the Draft, or even the currently problematic Daniel Jones contract, but rather did he go wrong in his choice of Brian Daboll as HC, should it turn out that Dabs is indeed the self-absorbed, sometimes officious martinet as some are now suggesting? It is an issue which must be clarified and resolved, first and foremost. Only then, can we get back to nickel and diming.

Cheers!

Larry

I was always under the assumtion that Daboll was Mara's choice and not Schoens, that Mara did that hire.

Big Blue Huddle / Are the Chiefs done with Toney
January 19, 2024, 04:38:10 PM

Seems he has been inactive for the past few games, since Dec 17 with another injury. With the Chiefs really limited at WR, you might think Topney might make a better effort to get on the field. Maybe the Chiefs have had enough of him.

Will he be out there for this week's game?

Here are my concerns/curiosities here:

1)  I don't think I can recall a team changing 3 coordinators but keeping the HC.  What caused this unique circumstance?
2) if all 3 of these guys were not "the right guy", how do we trust their decision making going forward?  Did they learn from going 0 for 3 on their initial hires?
3) if some of these things happened independently (i.e. firing a STs coordinator) and without the sh!tstorm being reported it would feel a lot different.  The reporting may be overstated and slanted and maybe most of the staff wants to work for Daboll.  I am not convinced either way, but I feel like the way this has gone down is cause for some skepticism at least.

It is something we rarely see. I think we all knew ST was horrible and the coach had to go. It depends on how you view the offense to see how Kafka fared and I believe he was horrible in his game plans. I mention it several times, but this went right from the get-go when Kafka was calling QB runs, in the 4th quarter in the opener, down by 30+. What sense was that? I also believe he never really adjusted to the talent of the QBs on the field. he had a game plan, and he rarely diverted from it, even when anyone with one eye could see it wasn't working. Kafka has to go as he never helped the offense one bit. Wink is another story, and that is just a clash in personalities.
There is no way Daboll getting canned. They have to give him a chance to fix things, even if it means changing his staff.
Again, and this is just MOVHO, Kafka was the cause of many of our offensive woes this year and I wanted him gone by mid-season. If, what is being reported as true, is, there were several clashes between Daboll and Kafka, then I give Daboll credit for holding on till the end of the season.

I still have that cover of Emerson Walls, hanging in my basement. It was a collector's piece when it was out, at least for Giants fans.

They could have waited until February and after the swimsuit edition came out.  :o  :o  :o

The Front Porch / Re: What are we watching these days?
January 19, 2024, 12:17:55 PM

I needed something for the wife and myself to watch, as I seem to spend too much time watching all these shows that everyone recommends and she doesn't get into killings et al. That said, we have now started the latest season of ' Only Murderers In The Building'. This is Season 3 and we have loved the first two and we are really looking forward to this new season, which got good reviews. If you've never seen this show, it stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selina Gomez as tenents in a Manhatten apartment building where there always seems to have someone murdered and leave it to our trio, to figure things out among so many plot twists it's hard to keep a straight face. Of course, this is all done tongue-in-cheek, so there are more funny moments than anything else. It is a relaxing way to spend some time away from all the other stuff we usually watch.

Quote from: T200 on January 19, 2024, 10:56:08 AMThen how would multi-millionaires become multi-billionaires???

Business always has been and will always be about who can accumulate the most worldly wealth. I guarantee they all know where they rack and stack on the list of the world's richest people.

Of course, but if, say, what I suggested, a battery that can charge as you drive, how does that impact the multi-money makers? IMHO they would see twice as many cars, the only drawback is the battery itself.
Unless, of course you mean that people would give up the gas guzzlers and that would impact the oil companies.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Where Schoen went wrong

Schoen needs more time to establish his brand on this team. What he inherited was more than a complete mess it was downright atrocious. He has done some good work and he has messed up a few times also. Everyone can't hit a home run every time at bat, there have to be a few misses also.
We can sit here and list his good things and bad things, but overall, I believe the Giants are better now than when he took over.
My one really bad deal was the Jones thing and we don't know, or may never know, if that came from Mara, and Schoen's hands were tied. I always said he should have played hardball because no team was going to give Jones what he was asking for. But we have to make the best of it.

I feel a GM needs 4 years to turn the culture around. If, after that time, we are still mired in mediocrity, then we move on. Schoen still gets 2 more years from me.

Personally, I think this makes Daboll look a bit more like a HC. He assembled a staff and when something doesn't work out you cut the cord and move on instead of stringing things along.
I couldn't care less why coaches leave or get fired, but when something ain't working, I give the HC a lot of credit for trying to move on and getting it right.
When he assembled his staff, they all looked good on paper, but the game isn't played on paper. Clash of personalities, not on the same page scheme-wise, or just incompetent, the HC has to know when to bring in new people to accomplish his goal. Come on, we see this all the time, even mid-season. IMHO, this is a wise move on Daboll's part.

I was discussing something like this with a friend today and we both agreed, why can't they invent a battery that charges as you drive, thus almost eliminating the need for a physical charge most of the time? If the electric battery is charging as you drive it would make gas engines almost obsolete.

My only problem with this last episode, I really don't know how much of this is actually true, but I was very sorry to see Witt get killed off. And then John Hamm getting caught so early in the episode. I expected a full confrontation before he was eliminated. AND, yes I loved the way he was set up for his life in prison. Just a great season for Hamm. The first really great thing he's done since playing Don Draper on Mad Men.

Knowing this series, I fully expected our assassin to pull out something and 'pay the debt', but I understand the ending that they left us with.

Sorry to hear that there is nothing on the horizon for a Season 6. I really need to go back and rewatch all the previous seasons.
