Big Blue Huddle / Rivera--DC
January 17, 2024, 08:04:27 PM

Seems Ron Rivera wants to stay in the game and said he's willing to take a step down, even work as a Defensive Coordinator.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10105578-ron-rivera-wants-to-keep-coaching-in-nfl-after-commanders-firing-open-to-dc-role.

How would he look in Blie and would that be too much of a big-time guy under Daboll?

I know it's early, but most people think Jackson will win the MVP yet no one even considered him.

Big Blue Huddle / Who would you want as the Giants QB?
January 17, 2024, 05:24:24 PM

We did a poll for coaches, so now if we could have any of these QBs as the new QB of the Giants, whom would you pick?

Come on, I know it's just wishful dreaming and no harm, no foul, but I was just curious whom people would go for.

Myself I go with Josh Allen. Why, there is just something about him that makes guys want to win.

The Front Porch / Re: What are we watching these days?
January 17, 2024, 02:05:57 PM

It is done, the new season of Fargo is in the books and as I sit here I am pretty satisfied with the entire season. As I said previously, there was some weird stuff going on mid-way thru, but that lasted maybe one episode and then on to much better things.
I can't say the ending was as good as I would have liked, but it was satisfying.

How would I rate this one against some of the others, it was way better than the last installment of KC hoods, but I still think seasons 2 and 3 were really the tops.

Still one of the best watches on TV.

If others have now seen it and would like to discuss anything, put a big Spoiler alert on top, and let's get at it.

Big Blue Huddle / Daboll and seniority
January 17, 2024, 01:55:37 PM

Just think in a couple of weeks we could have the longest tenures HC in the NFC East.

With Washington getting a new one and Dallas and Philly on the rocks, Daboll has seniority.  <:-P  <:-P  <:-P  <:-P

Big Blue Huddle / Your 2023 NFL announcer rankings
January 16, 2024, 08:18:25 PM

Since we rank everything else, why not announce duos (and trios)? I can believe most of us here find something wrong with most of the announcers on TV. Sure some are better than others, some just talk to hear themselves talk and still some are quite effective in making a game watch a lot more informative and pleasurable.

Take a look at this list and see if you agree.

I'm glad Romo and company are slipping. He really wears on one's ear drums after a while. His gimmick was cute for a while, but now, he talks non stop and says less and less.

Quote from: TDToomer on January 16, 2024, 02:55:40 PMThen he has no business on national TV. Rip his contract up FOX and send him to a local Dallas station. Oh wait, they don't have a post-game show. In fact their FOX affiliate cut away from the broadcast to start the evening news before the game ended!

Anyone remember when the Giants stunned the Cowboys in the 2007 playoff. The Fox crew, who incredibly still have the same personnel plus Strahan & Gronk, were stunned, speechless and mostly silent during the post game wrap to the point you could easily hear papers being shuffled. They had nothing prepared to say in case the Giants won.

I remember it like it was yesterday. Throughout the entire playoffs, every one of the hosts picked whatever team the Giants were playing, not one picked the Giants and YES, they were absolutely stunned, week after week, NO one believed, except us.
When the Giants beat Dallas, I thought Johnson was going to cry.

Big Blue Huddle / Eli and Peyton on the air
January 16, 2024, 03:11:22 PM

What a difference a year makes. Last year to me anyway, this was 'can't miss TV' now it is just horrible TV. I fully enjoy watching and listening to these two guys talking football, when they talk football, but now it is all about their guests and the game, well that doesn't even take second place. I put them on for yesterday's game and until they brought up their first guest, Bruce Arians, the game was forgotten. This is a playoff game, not some MNF game where no one really cares. The same happened when they brought out Ray Lewis. Things are happening on the field and the 2 Mannings aren't really interested. I had to switch to Aikman and Buck (God help me), at least they were covering the game.
What was once a great way to watch a game, with 2 guys talking about it, like in a bar with friends, now has just become a showcase for who wants to be on TV and the game be damned.

Sort of a bright spot in those horrible years.

May he RIP.

As we relish in the losses ofg the Pukes and Iggles, we are still not in their class. What they lack and what we had was a QB (Eli) who knew how to win in crunch time. The two QBs of those respective teams haven't learned that yet.

What started out bad on Saturday as both my teams lost, sure ended on a very high note. First the hate d Cowpukes implode and then the just as hated Iggles, continue their downward spiral.

I do think Aikman hit on something, that there is something wrong with Hurts that hasn't been made public. He never really ran yesterday and was tackled for big losses, including that safety, which normally never would have happened. PLUS he was stopped on the tush-push.

After the game, all the other guys had comments, but Johnson never said one word. You could see the look if hapless disgust on him.

Big Blue Huddle / Should the Giants cut Waller?
January 15, 2024, 04:13:25 PM

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/giants-might-be-better-off-cutting-51-million-starter-says-writer/ar-AA1n0YxK?ocid=msedgntp&pc=HCTS&cvid=10b7350324cc4862a4f03aa60eab1977&ei=16

The New York Giants might have to consider parting ways with playmaking tight end Darren Waller after just one season with the organization.

Facing a crucial offseason in 2024, every dollar of cap space must be spent wisely, and USA Today Giants Wire's John Fennelly pointed out tight end as an area where Big Blue could free up some money.

"It would take a lot of courage to let Darren Waller go after just one season," Fennelly admitted, "but the Giants look like they got left holding the bag here as Waller was banged up all season — a scenario they were hoping to avoid. The going-on-32-year-old Waller made just 11 starts and played on 51 percent of the offensive snaps."

Waller's cap hit jumps up to nearly $14.5 million in 2024 according to Over the Cap, and increases another one million in 2025 and another three million in 2026. Designating him as a post-June 1 cut would only cost the Giants approximately $2.5 million in dead cap each year, however, saving the front office a total of $40 million spread out over three seasons.
In 2024, specifically, Waller's release would free up $12 million — money that could be spent on a younger, healthier wide receiver.
