Big Blue Huddle / Re: Sterling Shepard

SS is what we like to think of as a true Giant. He does what he is told, took countless hits over the middle and never, ever complained. Problem is, he took up a roster spot when we could have used it for other players who might have contributed a lot more.
Couldn't SS be put on the practice squad each week and if needed, brought up?

I wish him well and hope the Giants use his knowledge maybe for a coaching position.

If we are just counting championships, BB has to win, hands down. But, as I said in my OP, coaches like Bill Parcels have won wherever they were. They might not have won the ultimate prize, a Super Bowl everywhere, but he has taken 4 different teams, (Giants, Pats, Jets, and Cowpukes) to championship games when he started from scratch. I think coaches like him love the challenge more than just the trophy. Parcels started with garbage and in 2-3 years turned out teams ready for championships.
A coach like Don Shula, who has won more games than any other coach, has taken 2 different teams to SB's how can he not be considered the GOAT? Is it just the championships that determine it all?

Big Blue Huddle / Is Bill Belichick the GOAT?

Not according to this article. Seems BB is being described as mediocre and only won because of Brady, thoughts also echoed by former players.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/ex-patriots-star-bill-belichick-is-absolutely-not-greatest-coach-ever/ar-AA1e1x2J

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/bill-belichicks-record-without-tom-brady-how-legendary-patriots-coach-has-fared-before-after-divorce-with-qb/ar-AA1iceYF

Did he win because of Brady or is BB responsible for making Brady-Brady?

Myse lf, I find him hardly mediocre as he has one of the best defensive minds in football. He is accused of being tart with the press, yes, he has never been known as Mr. Personality. His drafts have been less than stellar, but when it came to FA, he seemed to know who to pick up and when to release players, sometimes not to their liking.

It is hard to win without a decent QB as we have already found out (too many times).

Is he the GOAT, maybe, but there have been others who could also claim that title.

MVHO I would classify him as great, but I have always felt Bill Parcels was better. Many great coaches have won because they had the best players and/or QBs, like Lombardi, Bill Walsh, and Chuck Knoll. I would say guys like Shula, who won in several places, Parcels, Landy, and several others are just as good, if not better than Belichick.

In and around Iceland

Because of all the volcanic activity, there were a lot of earthquakes that opened up huge fissures all over the Country. Many are walkable thru parts of them.

As in the other post, there are areas with many geysers, similar to Yellowstone. People gather around waiting for the eruption, which happens about every 10 minutes or so.
Too bad it rained thru most of our 2 days in  Reykjavík but it is a once-in-a-lifetime visit, so we made the best of it.

We watched Northern Exposure from the day it premiered until it went off the air and we loved it. What a great cast, many of who have gone on to bigger and better things.

If there was a word for this show it would be quirky.

You have to get into the premises-- a town in Alaska pays for this guy's college to become a doctor but he has to live in this town for a while after graduating. He meets all sorts of lovable but quirky people (maybe if I lived there, I wouldn't think they were that quirky--but since I don't, they are). If you buy into the premiss you will adore the show.  We did and loved it.

No spoilers here

Two more episodes into Fargo (6 so far) and what was weird after episode 4, has cleared up and these last 2 episodes are some of the finest work on Fargo so far. Lots of sort of story lines and will wait to see who gets their come-uppence at the end.
What I thought was an 8-episode season which prompted me to start watching, is a 10-episode season which means I will have to wait a week or so to see how it ends. As of now, I am watching one episode a day to expand the joy of this show. It is tough to just watch that one show a day, but when I sit down every day to watch my daily dose, I couldn't be happier.

John Hamm as the Sheriff from North Dakota and Jennifer Jason Leigh as the rich 'grandma' are absolutely terrific in their roles.

If this game meant something to the Eagles, damn the draft pick I would love to screw them with a win, but this game means absolutely nothing to them, and losing means a lot to us. As much as I hate to lose to them, I hope we are competitive and still lose.

Quote from: ozzie on December 31, 2023, 09:33:59 AMI never saw Justified when it was in its original run, but I have friends who raved about it. So, when Justifed Primeval came on, I made sure to check it out. I enjoyed it, but at the same time thought to myself that some of it just didn't make much sense (as far as decisions being made my certain characters under certain circumstances).
Speaking with my friends, they weren't too impressed by it. They thought this storyline had Raylan change too much and that he wasn't the "same old Raylan" from the original series.
Like I said, I enjoyed it enough, but to the die hard fans I know, it fell short of expectations.

I just started the new Justified. It does not take place in Miami, although Raylon lives there now. It takes place in Detroit, and to be a bit honest, Raylon seems out of place here. Stories like this have been done many times in the movies, where 'hick' law enforcement people are thrown into a big city sort of environment and they usually come out on top.

Anyway, I am 2 episodes in and I still like this show. If you have never seen Justified, I would watch some of the past seasons to get acquainted with Raylon and his sort of justice and then move into this newer version set about 10 years further along.

Quote from: ozzie on January 04, 2024, 08:38:46 PMWow! What a diverse landscape. From lush green fields to the angry red planet to beautiful waterfalls.
Spectacular!

Yes, Iceland does have quite a large diverse landscape. Even more, now that that volcano erupted several months ago.

I'll post more pix tomorrow.

When we were in Iceland it rained for most of the 3 days but we did have one afternoon where the sun did shine. Most people think of Iceland as just that, but Iceland is mostly green and Greenland mostly snowy.

I could post a bevy of pix from here but just to give you an idea of the country, many huge waterfalls, many areas with geysers and hot springs ( many parts of Game of Thrones were filmed here, mostly the parts beyond the Wall)

Arriving at our first port

Lush green is all over the island

Geysers in an area that looks like it could be on another planet and not Iceland

There are many dormant volcanos that are filled with beautiful aqua-colored water. These things are huge.

January 04, 2024, 04:56:08 PM
This Monday is it for several coaches and coordinators--Black Monday as it has been commonly known

So who goes and who stays?

Ron Rivera -a given
Robert Saleh-- 50-50
Mike Vrable--75-25 gone
Bill Belichick--99% gone
Matt Eberflus--30-70 he stays
Dennis Allen--50=50
Arthur Smith-50-50
Brian Daboll 99% stays
Antonio Pierce--90% stays

Someone, please tell me why a coordinator, or anyone for that matter, would leave not knowing if they will be working the next year. Come on, last year both were in huge demand and both would probably get jobs somewhere right now, but in the real world, you just don't leave when you have nothing else on the table. Moey still talks and bills need to be paid, so why leave a cushy paying job because ??????????????

Seriously, I probably have several, many even many, ite ms in our home, that I just love, but are useless in today's world. I was looking around and what really came to me was my old Stereo components that I bought many years ago when I was in the service, but I still used them for years afterward.
I have a very powerful SONY Amplifier, 4 Huge Scott Speakers, and an AKAI reel-to-reel stereo tape deck. ( I got rid of my turntable when records really went out of style. I have these wonderful components that cost me bundles back in the day, but at that time they were top of the line and they are basically sitting around, useless but I refuse to get rid of them. They are sort of buried away right now so I pulled some pix off the internet as these items are still around.

Personally, I hope not. I like Barkley a lot and think he is the ultimate team player.

That said, I feel for him, knowing his career has been sort of shortchanged, playing for the Giants. He has basically wasted the best years of his career here and if he does decide t o leave I hold no grudges and would wish him well.
