They just traded for a better version of him. I say no. Use your resources for a different type of player. Diversify your options.

Ozzie, thank you for your comments. Much appreciated.

I was worried about this one. I took in on a raining day at Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge. He was just standing on a stump and wouldn't move. I just love his mad or angry look. Something pissed him off.

I got close, within 100 ft and used a 300 MM lens, but I still had to crop. My camera has 42.4 MP but I had to crop it to get in as close as I wanted and when you crop you lose megapixels. As a result, I ran it through Topaz Denoise AI and Topaz sharpen AI.

At the last meeting of a meeting of a Photography Group that I belong to I received a comment that the feathers on the back were too sharp. I took it into Photoshop and put a blur on the feathers and also blur the background to soften both. It worked and I think that the bird looks better than before.

We read from left to right while this bird was looking from the right to the left. As a result, I flipped the photo so that the bird was looking from the left to the right the way our eyes are trained.

Daniel Snyder has more on his mind that sticking it to a new owner. Word down here in Delaware where we have an equal amount of Eagles, Baltimore and mostly hidden Washington fans is that Snyder wants to be cleared of all liability with the sale of the team. I hope that doesn't come to be. The guy is an absolute pig and basically a criminal and should be held accountable.

This was a great read.

Apparently, the Giants were convinced that he was the man when in the Green Bay game down in the third quarter and Barkley getting hurt Jones proceeded to proceeded to drive them down the field with 5 completions and 2 runs for a score.

It showed that both sides wanted to get the deal done and that both were willing to compromise. at the end a deal was done on a locked Pinkies the deal was consummated.

"On that, at 3:56 p.m., Schoen cracked, Daniel, I trust you. Murph, I don't trust you.

Schoen suggested they shake on the deal, absent a real contract. Murphy responded that a pinky swear and a hug would be better. So they locked pinkies, and hugged, and the deal was agreed to with four minutes to spare.
"

John Mara was not directly involved in the negotiations except when Jones ask to and then call him. What was said by Jones speaks volumes about his character. He is the kind of person who I want leading the team.

"Jones then called owner John Mara, with Schoen's blessing, to tell him that he was locked in to being the Giants' quarterback, be it on a long-term deal or the tag, and that he wasn't going to take anything personally either way, just as he hadn't over the year previous."

This deal is a good one for both sides.

"The interesting twist here is once the sides got in on the incentives, the bigger-picture pieces of the deal fell into place fast. The Giants agreed to fully guarantee the first two years of the deal, with the agents again yielding on the idea of a part of the third season vesting as fully guaranteed a year early. The agents got Jones's two-year average over $40 million, with $82 million due between 2023 and '24, while the team won on having a three-year average under $40 million per (the base value of the deal is $112.5 million from 2023 to '25)."

Quote from: Section 101 Steve on March 01, 2023, 11:22:51 AMI'm with you files although the first 2 series the devils and Carolina are not physical teams. If we get to the third round and face a bruin or Tampa that will be a physical series. More concerning is we get any injuries are we able to replace them and the defense need to take more calculated risks when pinching so we don't have the amount of breakaways and odd man rushes like were giving up now. And last but not least Igor need to be Igor and stand on his head. At least they have 3 weeks or so to get used to each other before the playoffs start.

When they won the cup in 1994 the first series went 4 games and the second went 5. That allow them to play a tough 7 game series against the Devils and withstand another 7 games series against Vancouver to win the cup.

By the time the Rangers got to the finals in 2014 they were spent and lost to LA.

Last year both the first and second round series went 7 Games. By the conference finals against TB they were physically spent. It's going to be difficult to have the short series in the east that may be needed to allow them to get over the conference final hump to get to the cup finals let alone win it.

What I felt the 2014 and this year's teams lacked was that one player, like a Mark Messier, with the experience
and determination to overcome any obstacle. He just knew how to win.  I hope that Kane is that guy with the extra that may have been missing from this team. I don't know but we shall see.

Quote from: brownelvis54 on March 01, 2023, 12:22:27 PMWhat's going on with Georgia? Didn't their quarterback get in trouble a few months ago too?

DeAndre Baker then their QB is in trouble, and now Jalen Carter. Yes, what is going on with them. My guess is that after the Baker incident the Giants will be gun shy and will not pull the trigger with on Carter if they get the chance.

Some points made on the Yankee broadcast last night. If you hold the ball to the last few seconds of the clock the base runner is going to know that you are going to the plate, therefore he should get a good jump on the pitch.

Also, the pitcher is going to have to vary his time to the plate. If the runner knows you always throw the ball to the plate with 6 seconds left of the clock, he again will get a good jump.

Quote from: Giant Jim on February 20, 2023, 09:08:24 AMPick off rule-"any time the pitcher makes a pickoff attempt, fakes a pickoff, or simply steps off the rubber for any reason, as well as when the defense requests time." This doesn't make any sense. After a pitcher makes 2 attempts, he can't throw to first anymore? Now runners can take longer leads. I bet Ricky Henderson would've had 5000 stolen bases with that rule. Should the first baseman hold the runner at that point or play back?

I have no problem with the rule changes except for this one.  You're right, this rule makes no sense. How will you hold the runners on first or any base for that matter.

I've been calling for a pitch clock for years. It's about time. I've read some estimates that this will cut off a half hour to 45 minutes to a game. And it's not just the pitcher, the batter can't step out of the box and adjust his gloves and whatever else he does before or after each pitch.

Depending on the term and guaranteed money this would be a great deal for the Giants.

If they sign Jones, they could then tag Barkley with the non-exclusive franchise tag which is for a running back $9,570,000. This will allow Barkley to test the market if he chooses. By the way, the exclusive franchise tag which gives the team exclusive rights, is for a running back $10.10 million. Both offers are for less than what the Giants are reported to have offered him and would be for only one year. With the non-exclusive tag, if he gets an offer from another team the Giants could match the offer or accept two first round picks that come with it.

From what I have heard and read, there are a number of average to good running backs in both free agency and in the draft. Therefore, I don't think that Barkley has much bargaining power and should accept the Giants offer. He'd be a fool in my opinion, and I don't think he is, to go the franchise route.

What some of us are not looking at is that the market will always dictate what players are paid and the market at the QB position is more teams need one then there are QB's available therefore they are in demand. The key here is not the player or team but what the market is saying.  The market dictates the salary.

I think that the Giants will sign Jones between the 35M to 40M range. With the cap being set for 2023 at 224.8M the high end of the range would be 17.79% of the 2023 cap. Assuming that in 2024 the cap will go up and that by 2025 or 2026 due to the new TV contracts the cap could go as high as 250M, the 40M would likely be around 16%. This could be a bargain the way the market is going. The term them becomes the key. If it is for 5 years, with a team out around the 3-year mark, then I think that would be good deal for the team.

Looking ahead, they have to sign both Dexter Lawrence and Andrew Thomas. Both are considered the best or one of the best at their respective positions and will therefore possibly set the market. To offset this, they will need to something with Kenny Golladay and Leonard Williams.

Barkley may be the odd man out. It may be that they want to settle the Barkley contract one way or another, sign or release, during the next few weeks and then turn to Jones and work out a deal. If they can't reach a deal by the tag date, they may be planning on tagging him to give them time to work out a deal.

The east played the AFC south and the NFC north That are two of the weaker divisions in the league. Thats not to say that the east isn't good however, you need to factor in the who they played.

As with everything if you focus on one thing you neglect another. When the NFL was more of a rushing league then in the past few years you needed big linebackers to back up the line. The linemen held there ground while the linebackers fill gaps. When the college game went with fast WR's it opened up the game. Offenses were saying we are not going to pound our head against a wall we are going to attack with speed and passing. This meant that defenses had to adapt by adding players with speed who could cover. Defenses were sacrificing size for speed. Now we are begining to see offenses change to a more prominent ground attack. The defenses will eventually change back.

I would say that if LT and Banks were to be drafted today they would be considered edge rushes not LB. One could say that LT invented the edge rushing position.
