Apparently Tommy D has a big fan in the Giants lockeroom- Saquon Barkley

This quote from the NY Post today-

"Me and you, man, go out there and have fun. I love you, boy," Barkley told him before calling him "Tommy Cutlets."

Admittedly They could develop into a terrific 1-2 punch if the Oline can open some holes
for Barkley on a regular basis.....thats a big if.  But the Giants Oline seems to rallying to protect Tommy D.  Not inconceivable they also put more effort into run blocking for Barkley and Barkley shows more acceleration off the snap.

Question if this continues, how do the Giants wiggle out from under Jones 45K salary in 2024?  Showcase Jones in pre-season and work a deal with some QB hungry NFL team?

Also, why do most posters on here think Tommy D will never be a starter.   They should look at Tommy's final college numbers at Illinois,  They compare very favorably with some of the top college QBs being bantered about here

So far Tommy is on a trajectory with Brock Purdy- not an UDFA but last man picked in his draft year.
Looking at their college achievments and Draft Scouting Reports Purdy and DeVito appeared interchageable

They better enjoy these last few games together. This is Barkley's last season unless he comes down from his lofty contract goals.

That's one of reasons he loves Tommy. He suddenly becomes an all purpose RB.

I wish folks would stop comparing DeVito to Purdy from the standpoint of production metrics. Purdy is gifted with a wealth of offensive talent around him and an offensive strategy which plays to his strengths while mitigating his weaknesses. DeVito, on the other hand, is a survivor in a hostile environment of weaker and injured talent, having to endure physical punishment every week and fighting tooth and nail to make plays. In that midst, he has won over his teammates, coaches and fans. But the Giants are not remotely in the 49ers' class.

We are going to learn about Brock Purdy this coming weekend when the long awaited rematch with the Iggles takes place. This is the preview of the NFC Championship Game and must-see TV this weekend. Substitute Purdy with DeVito and tell me the 49ers have a chance with the cutlet guy. Who knows, but we'll find out, once and for all, if the 49ers are for real with Mr. Irrelevant.

Peace!

Good to see Barkley bigging up the marginal offensive talent we have. That's the job of a leader - be vocal, back your guys up.

However, I'm still not convinced this leadership is worth what Barkley will be looking for in terms of a new contract.

Let's hope these distractions don't get him to lose focus. One day you're a Hero and the next you're a Googootz doing Ooggatz!
