 I would also go with JJ. He has landed in the best possible situation for a rookie, that all he really needs to do is not screw things up.
will he be the starter day 1?

Quote from: katkavage on April 29, 2024, 04:39:25 PMThe schedule folks. Don't forget the schedule. In 2022 the schedule was easy. They played the AFC South. Last year they had to play the NFC West. Lost 3 out of four. This year they play the AFC North and NFC South. NFC South can go either way. Carolina is the only team as of now they would be favored against. In their division, they need to prove finally that they can beat Dallas, until they do, they are underdogs. Philly...we shall see which team shows up. Washington will be better. Don't count on the two easy wins. So go through the schedule. Of course there are injuries to other teams that change the dynamic. But right now, on paper, I don't see more than 7 wins. That's being generous.

Kat

Yes, we had a horrible schedule last year, but even with a decent schedule, it still all depends on when you play certain teams. Last year, we started out, what, our first 6 games, against maybe the best teams in the league and it hurts to get slaughtered starting the season. It has to have an effect on the player's psyche. Give us a few winnable games in t he first 5-6 games and let t he team feel what winning really does for morale.

 Throughout most of my football life, I have been a 'Believe it when I see it' guy. The only real time I let that guard down was during the Parcels years when we knew we were good and we expected championships every year.
Coming out of the draft, most of us get a bit more optimistic, but as long as we haven't upgraded several key positions, again, I enter another season 'Believing it when I see it".

If I may be so bold as to ask, where was I when these 'flashes of brilliance' occurred? Did I run off to get a snack, visit the WC, or nodded off because of our exciting offense?

I welcome new opinions of our team, but let's be a bit realistic.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on April 29, 2024, 03:59:53 PMIMHO, it's going to come out like this

Eagles
Giants
Cowboys
Commanders

Eagles: about the same as last year...maybe some improvement, but nothing radical. Still not Super Bowl ready, but the team to beat in the division

Giants: improving with dynamic offensive players and solidified defense, but still young. Heading in the right direction with speed and depth...a year or two away from being highly feared

Cowboys: going in the wrong direction after losing key players and saddled with very expensive Dak, and a patchwork OL with aging vets and error-prone rookies. Taking Zeke back tells you just how desperate they are on the offensive side. They could end up last in the division if Commanders are quick studies

Commanders: in a couple of years, they might very well be the team to beat in the NFC East. They are going to have a lot of up 'n coming rookies that make mistakes this year, as well as breaking in a new QB. But they are heading in the right direction, and they aren't going to be bottom feeders in a year or two

Just my opinion. Anyone see it differently?

Far be it from me to defend the Cowgirls, but if anyone thinks we are a better team than them is just silly. On paper and the game isn't played on paper, they are head over head better than us.
They have maybe the best defensive player in the league, and they have maybe the best WR in the league, even as bad as some want to make Dak he is way better than Jones. They have a better ground game than us, and I would take their 'aging' OL over whoever we have right now except for Thomas. They have a couple of very good TEs. How anyone can put us ahead of them as of now, is just silly.

A few more of those 'truisms'

When I lost two fingers on my right hand in a freak accident, I asked the doctor if I'd still be able to write with it.  He said, "Possibly, but I wouldn't count on it."

I woke up this morning determined to drink less, eat right, and exercise daily.  But that was five hours ago when I was younger and full of hope.

Anyone who says their wedding was the best day of their life has clearly never had two candy bars come out at once from a vending machine.

We live in a time where intelligent people are silenced so that stupid people won't be offended.

The biggest joke on humans is that computers have begun asking us to prove we aren't robots.

Mark Bavaro is my second all-time favorite Giant. What I see in this video is something that was a staple in the Giants' offense for all the years Simms and Bavaro were there, that deep seam pass up the middle and it always seemed to have worked. I have been crying, begging, and shouting as to why the Giants don't use that play today.

Three people to replace one, really doesn't seem like a good deal to me. Barkley did it all and now we have 3 others to replace him.

I was going to start another thread on a thought I had, but let's run it hear.

Many people have said and it is true, that Eli started out very poorly also. Thinking, about what really helped Eli become a much better QB, Plax and his ability to catch all the misguided passes that Eli threw to him. I'm sure there were many decent passes, but mostly I remember Plax using all his 6' whatever frame and arms to haul in many passes that were overthrown, underthrown, etc. Could Nabers be the Plax for Jones?
Most know and I won't deny it, I would like anyone other than Jones to be our QB, but he is our QB and I would never root for him to fail. If Nabers can do for Jones what Plax did for Eli, maybe there is hope out there.

Giants sign WR with 'ridiculous catch radius'

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/giants-sign-wr-with-ridiculous-catch-radius/ar-AA1nOMSU?ocid=msedgntphdr&cvid=cd546537c84e48ab9d2705cf9b0b63ab&ei=75

"Jiles has arms like vines and showed off his ridiculous catch radius on more than one occasion during his college career," NFL Media's Lance Zierlein writes of Jiles. "Despite playing against smaller foes, he has a lighter win rate on contested catches than he should, as he fails to bully and wall off opponents at the catch point."

An Obituary printed in the London Times

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years.
No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
- Why the early bird gets the worm;
- Life isn't always fair;
- And maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death,
-by his parents, Truth and Trust,
-by his wife, Discretion,
-by his daughter, Responsibility,
-and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 5 stepchildren;
- I Know My Rights
- I Want It Now
- Someone Else Is To Blame
- I'm A Victim
- Pay me for Doing Nothing

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

Truisms

Still trying to get my head around the fact that the words 'Take-Out' can mean food, a date, or murder.

To the paranoid people who check behind their shower curtains for murderers.  If you do find one, what's your plan?

Being popular on Facebook is like sitting at the 'cool table' of the patients' cafeteria in a mental hospital.

You know you're over 50 when you have 'upstairs Tylenol' and 'downstairs Tylenol'.

I too was once a male trapped in a female body ...and then I was born.

The Front Porch / Firestick/Roku

 I have the Amazon Firestick on all my TVs and I am very satisfied with it. Is there much of a difference between the Firestcik and the Roku device?

Quote from: jgrangers2 on April 27, 2024, 06:28:33 PMDid you want the Giants to draft a QB at 6 that they didn't fully believe in? If not, them not taking a QB was  kind of our of their hands. As for O-line, it was our heaviest investment in FA and that's without considering that we got a new OL coach. Our starting OL in week 1 will likely be Thomas, Eleumanor, JMS, Runyan, Neal barring injury.

The defensive secondary was far more of a pressing need. We probably needed DL help more than OL help so if they ignored anything, it was there.

 Do you really believe this OL is solid? And not even using a lower-round pick for some stability in case someone goes down. YOu draft maybe the best WR in the draft, and you give him to a QB who can't stand long enough to look downfield and you think this is not a pressing need? OK, we differ on that.
Same as drafting Barkley and now having an OL that can open a hole for him. Not one pick for this OL. Lunacy.
