Quote from: MightyGiants on November 15, 2022, 03:40:41 PMThere was uncertainty that Slayton would even make the roster behind Golladay, Toney, Shepard, and Robinson

Exactly.  But there is a cohort who seem to feel our WR Corps. poses no impediment to DJ's production.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 15, 2022, 03:08:03 PMcan you define what exactly counts as a pass, for future reference?

I'm old enough to remember when completing a pass that gave a receiver a good chance for significant yardage was a good thing rather than grounds for criticizing the QB.

Quote from: Rambo89 on November 15, 2022, 02:02:56 PMI wouldn't give Barkley that much for that long given the shelf life of RB's.  I would just tag Barkley and bring him back for 2023 taking it from there.  I don't think he would sit out and give up a season of his career given what happened to Leveon Bell.

Is tag and trade still a thing?

Quote from: TDToomer on November 15, 2022, 02:56:58 PMIt's mostly true with Slayton and Robinson being the only ones who would even be rostered. KG is only still here because of the cap penalties.

Slayton is the #1, but he'd have been hard-pressed to be even #4 on either of the 2007 or 2011 teams.

Quote from: BluesCruz on November 15, 2022, 01:55:26 PMI don't care where you rank him

I believe in the JUST WIN BABY philosophy

He's steering the ship of a 7 win team who easily could have won the 2 losses

Now the tough part of the schedule starts

I guess the Eagles really are not the 85 Bears

This is really fun now

The amazing thing is we can still play better.   I love it
Fingers crossed we go on a run    Why not?

BTW  Cowherd just left us off his top 10 team list.

While it is true that they could have won the 2 losses, it is equally true that they should have lost the first two wins.

Quote from: jimc on November 15, 2022, 02:34:23 PMIt's not only about who the DC is, but what quality assistants can he hire or bring with him.

Yes, and this is one of those things that we fans are terrible at assessing.  Remember when the board was reveling in how we got Marc Columbo and how he was going to fix our OL?  Fired mid-year and still unemployed.  Or how Sean Spencer was Coach Chaos who was going to turn our guys into ferocious All-Worlders?  Gone back to the college ranks from whence he came.  And I'm sure there were others.

Quote from: state_property on November 15, 2022, 01:50:19 PMDivision-wise, we need to go 3-3 at least....4-32 would be pretty much guaranteeing a play-off spot.

If we can sweep Commanders and split with Dallas, I would be happu.  Thy way the Eagles are playing I would be surprised if we split with them, and I see us taking a loss against the Vikes.

We beat the Lions and Colts and we should be in.

If the Commanders nee' Redskins can beat the Eagles . . .

So you are talking about paying Barkley in excess of $16 million per season and committing four years.  Would you be comfortable with that sort of contract?

Is there a price line (or year line) where you think the Giants should walk away?

No.  The most I would invest in Barkley is the transition tag.

Quote from: Rambo89 on November 15, 2022, 11:07:53 AMThe comment that GloryDays made is that Daniel Jones hasn't had time to throw.  That simply isn't true based upon the facts.  Same goes for the comment on the Giants not having a decent offensive line which they do.

If you had actually read what I was responding too and my comments on it rather than going into your blind Daniel Jones defense mode you would have seen that.

Nope, which makes you ask are these sacks a result of being coverage sacks (no receivers being open), Jones being indecisive or something else?

He currently has two legit starting receivers and a decent TE (once Bellinger is back).  Only thing the Giants lack in the receiving game is a legit #1 game breaking WR.  And yes, that is a big need that would definitely help Jones.

This is an interesting breakdown.  The gist is that time to throw is not positively correlated with success, even from a clean pocket.  So maybe those who cite DJ's time to throw average are making the opposite point they think they are making?

Quote from: Trench on November 15, 2022, 10:59:16 AMQuestion to ask is:

Traditionally, do most QBs who have the top "time to throw" stats also rank in the top of "getting sacked"?

This won't fully answer your question, but this page lists "Pocket time" for each QB, among other things, which presumably screens out the artificial 'time to throw' that comes from things like 'scramble for your life plays' and roll-outs to subsidize the OL.

That doesn't look like a guy who's afraid to air it out.  It's ironic how the things that DJ is now being criticized for, 'can't throw long', 'can't throw it into tight spots' are exactly the things that got him that (ridiculous, IMO) Danny Dimes nickname in his rookie year.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: NGT: Kyler Murray

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 15, 2022, 08:50:13 AMWhen a team needed to put a clause in the contract that required Murray to do his homework, that was a HUGE red flag.   Regardless of its removal, when you can't trust your QB's work ethic, you should never had signed him to any sort of contract.

At least that is something no one has criticized DJ for.  I think that it is pretty universally recognized here that no matter what anyone thinks of his play, no one questions his work effort, professionalism, and leadership.
