No doubt that DJ had a poor performance against Seattle, second only to that which he had against the Cows in their only other loss in 8 games. However we may choose to assign blame, one thing remains clear and constant which is the talent deficit among the Giants Receivers.

I don't know how instructive it may be, but it's hard to ignore how much Rodgers seems to be struggling with Receivers in which he lacks confidence

That's not an excuse as such but rather it illustrates the burden on Schoen/Daboll & Co in deciding what is to be Jones's future while still too soon for us to know.

His time to throw yesterday was 3.03 where it has been 3.16 at some points but he avgs 3.06 which is still 30th. His air yards at 4.6 is what is concerning considering the time he had to throw and clean pocket.
That's because our WRs struggled to get any kind of separation. Given the talent we have on our WR, if the opponent has the personnel, like Seattle who matched up well against us with physical corners, its not fairly difficult to shutdown our WR core.  This is why they were able to sell out against the run to stop Saquin and DJ. Thus DJ was forced to go to his checkdowns more often.

Huh?  Wouldn't them selling out to stop the run leave open the room for the Giants to go down field?  If anything a deep passing game threat would force Jones to go to his check downs not them trying to stop the run.

The tape and NGS does not agree with your assessment. Last week, DJ missed at least 2 TDs, probably 3.  He continues to struggle with seeing the whole field and anticipating open receivers.  A tier 1 WR will definitely help; however, it's not going to resolve his primary deficiencies.  In short, DJ Abysmal day was not the result of poor wide receiver separation; instead, it was a byproduct of missing open wide receivers for making the incorrect read.  This resulted in his very poor PFF rating and QBR.  I'm short, it's not all on the WRs; although, they bare the blame too.

Im sorry but it was just as much on Jones who reverted back to some bad habits. People on the forum have shared multiple examples but Jones had a horrible day on top of us having bad Wrs. Jones is the captain, he's the leader, he should be held accountable just as much as the Wrs. The stats I was giving in the message you quoted when put together don't equate to the Oline or the Wrs. Time to throw being so long with the Average Air Yards being so short is a direct reflection of the QB whether you want to acknowledge it or just blame the wrs the stats tell a story as well.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 01, 2022, 01:58:27 PMWow the Steelers got the Bears' actual 2nd rounder. Not the one they got from the Ravens.

The Bears are overpaying here. Claypool is ok but last year is the last year on his rookie deal and he's not a franchise changing player in any way. Plus this season is clearly over for Chicago and they're already selling off key parts.

It's the type of move that keeps mediocre teams mediocre

And still, there's people on this board that wanted to get Claypool.
In my view he was massively overpaid.

And like with the Bears it would have kept the Reese/Gettleman mediocrity of the last decade cycle going.  Instead of this being a 1984 type Giants season it would have been another 2016 season.

I remember the 2016 season. But I also remember the 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 seasons.

The Giants and general manager Joe Schoen made no moves on Tuesday but did make several calls on wide receivers. They reached out to the Denver Broncos about Jerry Jeudy, the Pittsburgh Steelers about Chase Claypool and the Houston Texans about Brandin Cooks.

"We had several conversations with teams on multiple positions, but the price point didn't match up. Thing just didn't work out," general manager Joe Schoen told reporters. "We were active with phone calls and trying to improve our roster, which we'll continue to do."

Repeat!!!!!  This is VERY IMPORTANT............

........ but the price point didn't match up. Thing just didn't work out,"

As I had said...... he would add a piece or pieces IF THE PRICE WAS RIGHT!!!!  It wasn't and he wasn't going to overpay or take a player with almost ZERO control of their contract just to try and win a few more games THIS YEAR!

This is a MULTI YEAR PLAN to improve talent and depth for the long haul, NOT A WIN NOW PLAN!

Giants GM Joe Schoen didn't want to mortgage future for overachieving team

"There were a couple of players it just wasn't going to work out, financially we couldn't do it and the team wasn't gonna buy down the money and if they did, they wanted a higher pick,'' Schoen said.

Also if you listened to his interview with Sean O'Hara Schoen talked about the organization factoring in what they see the draft looking like as well as the free agent class.  Meaning they weren't going to give up certain round picks feeling that there are going to be players they've scouted that they feel will fill needs.
