A friend of mine who usually has good taste in shows recommended Jack Reacher with both hands. I'll check it out.

Meanwhile, my wife and I started "Lawmen: Bass Reeves", the latest Taylor Sheridan series. About an escaped slave who manages to become a deputy sheriff. We're two episodes in. It starts off with a serious bang and is very promising so far, but it's too early for me to endorse it as being great. But Sheridan's track record has me very optimistic.

I started this but only got a few minutes in before I stopped because my wife doesn't care for it but will watch it when she is working. I've read and seen several accounts on Bass Reeves and looking forward to seeing it.

Did anyone see Encounters on Netflix? It's a four part documentary about people who witnessed UFO's. Interesting stuff.

It would have to be particularly good for me to be interested, personally. I have seen countless UFO sightings documentaries. They're all kind of the same at this point.

Squibber, I've now watched the first two episodes, thanks to you for putting on my radar. It seems to be well produced and it does hold my interest, even though it doesn't cover any new ground formulaically. But then again I wouldn't expect it to. I think @Ed Vette would enjoy this.

I apparently started watching it and left. Tried again and didn't hold my interest.

OK, well my bad then. From your previous posts on the subject I assumed you had more than a passing interest in the UFO/UAP phenomenon.

I do. I just wasn't captivated by this show. Although I haven't finished the series.

What I liked about Encounters are the large number of eye witnesses for the sightings in Texas, an African school and a British school.

What did sound hoaky was the alleged message given to the African students about caring for the earth. But then again maybe the alien's plan is to slowly get humans more comfortable and ready for contact in the future.

I'm not 100% convinced of alien life on earth. I want solid proof.

I've never seen a UFO that I can say for certain. With all the billions of planets estimated to be in a Goldilocks zone that supports water and is temperate in this vast universe with billions of galaxies light years away, we are a grain of sand. However one night I saw something that was very high moving faster than one of our aircrafts and then speed up and disappear. It couldn't have been a comet or asteroid.

There are theories that these UAP's come from another dimension and there is one where they live here among us underground and in the oceans.

The one documented sighting that I do believe is the Navy Aviator, Commander Fravor. These were the tick tack shaped crafts off the West Coast and he gave testimony to the bipartisan Congressional task force on UFOs and UAPs.

I wrapped up the 4 part series last night. While "Encounters" didn't blow me away with anything new I did still enjoy it. What was interesting to me was, unlike a Betty and Barney type story, each episode focused on an event or series of events that were witnessed by dozens, sometimes hundreds, of people.
Additional props for the use of the underappreciated 70's Klaatu song, "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" during the third episode. (Klaatu was also the name of alien in the '50s sci-fi classic movie, "The Day the Earth Stood Still."

We watched "The Killer" on Netflix last night. I like Michael Fassenbender a lot, and I generally find that anything Tilda Swinton is in is usually good, plus I have loved David Fincher's movies over the years. So suffice to say I had high hopes. Unfortunately I found the movie a little disappointing. I thought it was slow and on the dull side. It seemed to think it was better than it really was, if that makes any sense. Not terrible or anything, but definitely not great either.

The wife and I are about to finish "Bad Sisters" on Apple this weekend. Great show about four sisters plotting to kill the 5th sisters' horrible husband. Its a black comedy set in Ireland and was created and stars Sharon Horgan, who was in Catastrophe, which was also great.

Just watched the new movie "The Holdovers" last night. It's not on any streaming service that I'm aware of, so we paid for the rental. We really enjoyed it. Great holiday movie. It's about a grumpy boarding school teacher who has to essentially babysit a handful of kids who, do to various personal circumstances, need to stay at the school through the holidays during the winter break. It is touching, funny, and sad all at the same time. Paul Giamatti is great as usual, and the actor who plays the main kid in the movie also does a great job. I have enjoyed much of Alexander Payne's work (Sideways, Election, among others), so I was excited about this one, and it didn't disappoint. Definitely recommended.

Here is the trailer for anyone who is unfamiliar with this film:
