OR, what you do in shorts and t-shirt is not a true indication of what you can do in full pads when some guy is trying to impede and reroute you.  And at the end of the 40, the 10 yard split, or 3-cone drill you aren't expected to catch the ball.

Creativity will be at a premium this year as ST coaches will have to figure out how to deal with the radical change in the kickoff rules.  A team that really nails how to deal with the new rules could reap a significant competitive advantage.  Let's hope that with a new ST coaching staff and influx of potential talent that team is the Giants.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on Today at 09:37:37 AM@kingm56 just the other day posted multiple examples of Qbs playing at an elite level despite having one of the worst olines in the NFL but we are supposed to give Jones a pass that he looks worse than most of the backups that started at some point last season in the same scenario.

Eli won a super bowl with a horrible offensive line but we can't even expect starter level play out of Jones? Yes the line was bad last year but that doesn't explain the 3 year arc of Jones refusing to throw down the field.

Qbs are supposed to make their team better and Jones has never done that even consistently. Pointing to a half here or a quarter here after 6 years just doesn't cut it.

Here's another example of your extreme bias.  Those other successful QBs with bad (but nowhere near as bad as the 2023 Giants) OLs had good receivers.  Where's the QB who was successful with BOTH a bad OL AND bad receivers?

Quote from: Jclayton92 on Today at 07:49:08 AMSo that would have been 18 sacks to 30 over a 6 game stretch. If you deduct the sacks that were his fault then they are about even.

The problem is that we are having this conversation at all with Jones making 40 million. I don't think Lock is really any better than Jones but the fact that it is even a conversation should be alarming.

This discussion wouldn't be necessary if every post of yours about DJ didn't reflect your extreme bias.  Like ignoring the difference in sacks rates.  Blaming the sacks on DJ. Ignoring the difference between the 7th ranked WR group and bottom 5 receiver group.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on May 07, 2024, 04:35:06 PMBut I couldn't agree more that "perception is reality" and perception always trumps facts and data...and Slayton has been called a pass dropping WR, so every drop screams to fans that the player is worthless, damn the facts. And you are also right that Slayton is not targeted as often as the stars of the game. And he will be targeted less now that we actually have a WR room to share the passes...and Nabers will get the bulk of them. Hopefully, some talking head doesn't call him a "pass dropper" or it will follow him throughout his career, even when he has a higher percentage of caught passes than other studs of the game

This is why the "eye test" needs to be subjected to the fact-checking of stats.  Especially the eye test as applied by untrained amateur fans with emotional involvement, or even an ostensible professional observer.  I remember a Monday Night game when Eli threw a sideline pass to Mario Manningham that was out of bounds and Cris Collingsworthless went on and on for the rest of the game about how it was Mario's fault for not leaving more room between himself and the sidelines.  And that turned into a bit of a narrative, going forward, about Mario.  Fortunately that didn't stop Mario from making the greatest sideline catch for the Giants when it counted.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on May 07, 2024, 07:41:01 PMIs there really that big of a difference in the 28th vs the 32nd to you?

I understand you were trying to make a point that somehow there was a huge difference in the 28th vs 32nd but there isn't, not enough to jump the stats that much. Even if you want to say they have better wrs which they do, Lock still attacked down the field while Jones did not.

Sure and the difference between the worst WR group and the #7 WR group couldn't have anything to do with it.  Plus, Lock was sacked 6 times in 2 games (3/game) while Jones was sacked 30 times in 5 games (6/game), just to put some context in that 28th to 32nd OL comparison.

Quote from: MightyGiants on May 07, 2024, 12:40:54 PMDoes anyone believe if Jones plays like a top 10 QB but the team has a losing season, the Giants will not pursue QB in next year's draft (assuming there is a good one and they are in a realistic position to acquire him).

If he plays like a top ten QB I think the 50+% failure rate for drafted QBs would make it foolish to move on from him.  Discard a top ten QB in search of what, a top three or five QB with the odds stacked against them?  Crazy.  And if they still had a losing season they could continue building out the team and shore up the weak spots that led to the losing season.

It wouldn't hurt if he was wiilling to take a pay cut, since there will be no guaranteed money.

He'll probably make the pro-bowl.

Quote from: Uncle Mickey on May 06, 2024, 10:24:35 AMI think members here have dug their heels in at this point. This, this right here

My point is simple , I think we can all agree that DJs support system when you combine the 3 items mentioned above has been absolute bottom barrel. This year in itself will be different because we all (or mostly) agree this will probably be the best combination of those 3 things in his career.

I do agree that DJ has been provided with pizz poor support his entire career.

I don't agree this will probably be the best combination of those 3 things in his career.  I need to see it on the field, particularly the OL.  We've been burned on this too long, going back to Eli's wasted years,  to take anything on faith.  I personally won't go any further than cautiously hopeful, ready to be disappointed yet again.

Is it common for teams to have someone as Head of Medical Services who isn't an M.D.?

Quote from: 4 Aces on May 05, 2024, 07:57:18 PMI hope I'm wrong, but Bobbie Johnson feels like a bit of a scapegoat.

Now - I'm not saying he's a good OL Coach. All evidence points to the contrary. His guys had no idea what they were doing.

But just like any business, sh#t rolls uphill. Just like it probably does at most of our jobs. The OL struggled from the opening bell last year. Where was the Offensive Coordinator Mike Kafka when it became clear Johnson was getting poor results? If he couldn't fix it, where was the Head Coach Brian Daboll? This was a problem that derailed the entire season and got their million dollar QB hurt. None of them could fix it.

Now Bobbie J's gone, and we're just hoping Bricillo waves a magic wand and they start playing better. I'm skeptical.

The real killer with Johnson was his inability to identify his starting OL in the pre-season so they could play together and get some chemistry.  And Dabol/Kafka let that happen.  This led them to be unprepared to compete, as evidenced by being blown out in game after game at the start of the season.  The second killer with Johnson was his inability to get any thing out of Neal, and JMS.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 04, 2024, 11:54:03 AMThe NFL is a for profit business. It's all about maxing out profits. That is not the case with education and teachers. So I respectfully disagree with this comparison.

There is a big difference between winning and maxing out profits in the NFL.
