The #Giants add another DB in Andru Phillips, who will compete to start opposite Deonte Banks. Here was my synopsis of him:

Andru Phillips is a tough-minded explosive athlete with impressive movement skills and fluidity to flip his hips, stay balanced, and keep his eyes on target - perfect for shaded zone coverage & midpointing.

He can play inside and outside, and he has the athletic traits and experience to succeed in both man and zone coverage. He's feisty at the catch point, with good technique to disrupt, but lacks the ability to locate and secure interceptions - had zero in college.

His anticipation skills and discipline are still a work in progress in coverage. He has the right mentality in run support and can deliver solid hits when he's in pursuit, but he's more of a wrap-up and hold-on tackler from closer proximity.

Phillips is raw, and his hands/physical nature get him in trouble. There are aspects of his game that still need to be refined, but the baseline athletic traits raise his ceiling.

They Got a younger cheaper Adoree. Seriously, height, weight, high angle IQ, solid run defender, Possesses elite hinge fluidity, and can turn on a dime to reset his hips and recover.

Guy sounds and looks like Adoree.

Adoree had 6 career interceptions and 28 passes defended at USC to Phillips 0 interceptions and 6 passes defended. Hope he turns out to be a player but we don't need to overhype every draft pick.

I wasn't, I was simply insinuating the kids build and traits are similar to adoree with his height, weight, and athleticism.

Also is Adoree really a hype up? He's been a good corner with little ball production.

Fast fact

Carrington Valentine the kid that played opposite Phillips in 2022 got drafted by the Packers in the 7th round last year pick 232 and started 12 games.

After his first 4 games Valentine was 17th in the NFL in PFF coverage grade, his 52.3 passer rating-against was third league-wide and his 39.1 comp % allowed was 2nd in the NFL to just Jalen Ramsey at that point.

Phillips is a significantly better prospect coming out of the same system a year later. All prospects are completely different obviiusly but seems like we got a really solid prospect in the 3rd.

This, IMO, could be the best value pick of the three so far.

Getting Nabers at six was clearly a good value, but getting Phillips in the 3rd round was a much bigger surprise.

Incidentally, Brugler had Phillips ranked higher than Nubin on the over-all list of best players in this draft.

If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!
