Quote from: Jclayton92 on May 19, 2024, 03:18:35 PMThese cops were clearly not prepared for what they were dealing with and over reacted to the situation. You would likely have not seen the same reaction to something so insignificant or the rush to detain and arrest if this had been in or around a major metropolitan area.

Just my opinion though.

As I read the accounts it wasn't these cops, it was this cop.  And he was a detective and not experienced in a situation like this (pure conjecture - was he already a little pissed and out of sorts to be called out in the rain to do crowd control instead of investigating the fatality ?).  And he (and the others, to be fair) were wearing yellow optical vests so it might not have been apparent that he was even a cop.  A cop told Sheffler to bypass the traffic and he was doing what he was told.  Then this guy got involved.  And I repeat a point I made earlier, what kind of idiot tries to stop a car by grabbing it and holding on when it doesn't stop.  I also found it amusing that the last line of the police report was about his ruined beyond repair uniform trousers, valued at $80.

I'm a very conservative guy and I pretty much knee-jerk support the cop in controversial cases, but from what I've read, given the circumstances and Sheffler's reputation as the straightest of straight arrows, not this time.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants 3 pre season games

Quote from: Jclayton92 on May 19, 2024, 01:32:16 PMThat's were the joint practices and preseason differ. All the notes coming out of the practices with the lions say they dominated us in every aspect. Beat writers chose to focus on a preseason game  because positive enthusiasm early gets more clicks than the alternative.

I don't think pre-season is a waste.  But I think Daboll, with a huge assist, wasted last year's pre-season.

Quote from: Bob In PA on April 24, 2024, 12:54:28 PMOne of the smart ones.

But I'd have to meet them all to decide who I'm talking about... looks would be secondary.

If you find that difficult to believe, I don't blame you... but I'm serious.

Bob

If you want smart, Mayim Bialik of The Big Bang Theory and Jeopardyshould do it for you.  She actually DOES have a doctorate in microbiology in real life.

Quote from: Philosophers on May 18, 2024, 02:17:54 PMLouisville cops should ask for apology and drop it.

Scottie's lawyer says that if they don't drop the charges they will go to trial.  And based on what he said, the apology should go in the other direction.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 18, 2024, 11:35:44 AMI like Scottie Scheffler and think he's a genuinely good guy, but this could have been avoided by simply complying with the initial instructions.

He didn't know there had been a fatal accident and it is routine for players to bypass cars lined up to get in.  I'm sympathetic to his situation because years ago I come up on a scene where there were lanes closed, detours, and contradictory 'Keep Left' and 'Keep Right' signs and  I was confused and found myself in the wrong place.  I got screamed at by one of the construction guys.  But they're the ones that created the confusing situation.

That said, what kind of idiot tries to stop a car by grabbing on to it.  The overcharging was ridiculous.  And it is to Scoottie's credit that he had the mental strength to birdie his first hole and go on to shoot 66 to be t4 after the round.  And WHY wasn't the cops' bodycams turned on?

Quote from: Ed Vette on May 18, 2024, 10:34:47 AMThe day Tom Coughlin walked off that podium in a farce retirement after being thrown under the bus, was the day this Franchise went downhill. Now that deserved a resounding diatribe.

Something seriously is wrong with this organization folks.

I would date it a little earlier than that.  I date it to Kevin Gilbride being made a scapegoat because Mara said the offense is broken. Gilbride developed Eli, as QB coach, and then as offensive coordinator led them to year after year of top ten offenses and 2 SB victories, despite some idiot fans calling him K*i*ll*drive*.  Then the offense had one bad year and they scapegoated him.  I think of the Giants' woes since then as the Gilbride curse.

* why won't the editor let me type the name he was called without changing it to Gillbride??

Quote from: MightyGiants on May 18, 2024, 09:15:10 AMEven with insufficient practice, quality O-line coaching will give a team an edge.

Insufficient practice time made it even more negligent of their former ol coach to play Merry Go Round with the line in the preseason, which I believe was a big part of the non-competitive start.

Quote from: MightyGiants on May 17, 2024, 11:33:27 AMIs he really?  It seems like Jimmy Johnson (along with the historical stupidity of the Vikings) spurred the early success.  After Jerrah's ego spurred him to fire Jimmy Johnson, they have been a team that collects plenty of talent (and develops and manages them well), but year and year, crashes and burns when the playoffs come around.  Plus, see my post on how I view Jerrah, you don't have those sorts of traits with any of the Mara family.

You can't crash and burn in the playoffs unless you make the playoffs.

Quote from: Ed Vette on May 16, 2024, 04:56:53 PMAnother testimonial blow job that the rich elites do for each other. I've attended many of those in a former life. I actually don't hate this man like you all do. I may check it out.

I don't hate him.  I envy the fact that he is a better owner than the Giants'.

Quote from: President Rick on May 17, 2024, 09:42:33 AMat last 2 maybe 3 'short' weeks to prepare for thursday or friday games.  coaches must go nuts with these schedules.  I know I do.

The flip side is they get mini-byes they can use to more intensely work on problem areas, which lately have been Legion.  Half empty, half full.

Quote from: Bob In PA on May 17, 2024, 06:36:22 AMThat's a good set of predictions IF... the Jones deniers turn out to be correct.

If we instead view Jones as a veteran QB who's back is to the wall, the Giants should split the pair against the Eagles and the pair against the Cowboys, in which case 9-9 would probably turn out to be good for a playoff spot.

It's all about beating the Eagles and Cowboys and hoping for a bit of good luck (for a change) regarding injuries not only to the Giants, but also the opponents' injury situations.

Bob

PS. We're likely a "middling" team at best, but I see chance to win in Seattle as well as against Indy and Cincy.

I think their fate is primarily tied to the OL rather than to Jones.  However, if hope wins out over experience and the OL DOES improve to average or better but Jones doesn't perform they will finally, after 6 long years, get the definitive answer on Jones.
