On point 3 he is giving the FA and 2022 draftees at both OL and DL a chance to grow with a new OL coach/a hugely respected DL coach. There will probably be a UDFA or two but because of NIL we know depth is an issue so any extra real help is more likely to come from post Monday free agents who will not impact 2025 comp pick and later camp cuts.

Special teams guy and offers a bit of interior schemed pass rush together with reliable tackling but his limited athleticism tends to means those tackles are further off the LoS than with Okereke and McFadden.

A surprise to me with Mahogany, Boyd and Wingo on the board. Have to assume some medical issue with Mahogany.

Good after contact and explosive but raw and older. His superpower is versatility with RB WR KR value. Really nice pick if he can develop quickly with our coach who developed Kamara as that multi-use weapon in NOLA.

Ceri (ukgiantsfan) loves him btw!!!

Like Bellinger he will be a better pro than college player IMO. He is good on first down as well which will help DJ/Lock.

No. They signed five free agents and two likely start. They allocated assets in the draft in 2022 and assets in free agency in 2023. It is a sensible approach as veterans provide more space for the new OL coach to see if he can get more out of at least one of the 2022 guys.

He was the guy I wanted at 47. Like McKinney he was a bit hobbled rehabbing at the combine but on the tape he has all the range you could want. Like most safeties he lacks a top gear to match an absolute burner deep but he will put himself in good positions to make plays with above average smarts and recognition. Nubin has better ball instincts coming out than McK had and is happy to tackle, though not quite as physical. Just a really nice value meets need pick IMO.

I love Nubin, I am OK with Phillips (just wish he had hands). Not much 3T help left if we cannot get Wingo or Dorlus early day 3. Edge depth also not terrific. Several decent TE and RB fits still out there. Still some CBand WR help if we want to double-dip at high tariff positions. Only a handful of guards left with solid developmental potential. Not much at T.

There are still lots of TEs and RBs available so Phillips was a sensible pick. He is versatile in/out which matters in Bowen's system and he tackles well enough which is also a Bowen priority. Lack of ball production is not ideal but he adds depth and competition to a unit with more Qs than As.

Quote from: jgrangers2 on April 26, 2024, 11:23:16 AMThe Eagles being able to sit back and get, arguably, the best cornerback in the draft when that was their top need is an insane win for them. Thought at least 2-3 corners would have been off the board by that pick. The run on QBs and the Raiders taking Bowers kind of messed things up.

I mentioned on here a couple of days before the draft that the #1 CB in this draft would have rated at CB5 last year (from my family member at an AFC team) and last night tended to confirm that. Ultimately teams will take players because they need them in the latter part of R1 but the idea this was a strong CB class is more a media artefact than team reality. I was told teams see a fairly deep class for NCB and CB3 types but very few clear CB1s.

I'd only consider it for DeJean or McKinstry and only if we have clean medical evaluations on them. We have bigger needs at CB/NCB than G IMO.

Day one of the draft you make headlines that build interest. Days two and three you make picks that build rosters.

No matter how good he is/becomes Nabers will have only a peripheral impact on franchise trajectory unless we make our remaining five picks count to improve other areas

Schoen was correct when he noted we are more than one or two players away. His drafts have contributed to this talent deficit because they have not yet yielded a single slam dunk player on days 2,3.

Bellinger as a solid TE2 and McFadden as ILB2 are arguably the only value picks he has made so far. We can hope other guys like Wandale, JMS, Hyatt, Belton emerge with time/coaching but out of the box it has been a bit disappointing so far if we are honest.

This simply has to improve, both in terms of GM/staff player selection and coaching staff player development, for any Giants fan to have any chance of rediscovering happiness!

We were a bad team before we picked Nabers. We are still a bad team after the pick. We are a battered, rusting heap with an engine operating at half power (DJ), two good tires (AT, Dex), a nice stereo pass rush duo and an enhanced selection of shiny WR hood ornaments.

I am not sure there is much to be happy about as we are still a long way from competing. Getting another good player is nice but hardly cause for bunting and a parade.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Where does this leave Slayton?
April 26, 2024, 04:48:12 AM
It leaves Slayton playing out his contract this season unless we get an above market trade offer (anything above his original draft round) in the next 24 hours. He will likely have a chip on his shoulder.

Williams has a very good supporting cast. So does McCarthy. Nix has Payton. One of those three likely has the best situation even if the three I have not mentioned are 2-4 in some order in terms of talent.

Schoen/Daboll (and particularly the latter given his QB whisperer status) have IMO gambled that BOTH Jones and Lock are better than Penix, McCarthy and Nix. Both because given Jones injury history we have to see Lock as 1b not 2. If the Giants felt they could improve 1b that was the biggest bang they could possibly get at 6 and they would/should have pulled the trigger.

Their reputations now ride on how Jones/Lock perform and how those three guys do elsewhere. Let us hope they got it right.

Given how unpredictable R1 was it is hard to say.

My guess is one of Tyler Nubin, Mike Sainristil (degenerative knee concern), TJ Tampa or Braden Fiske if there at 47 but a G like Beebe or Haynes or T like Paul is also possible if available.

Will guys like DeJean, McKinstry, Newton keep falling due to their respective injury concerns? If so, how far and how do we feel about the risk/reward? McConkey is in the same boat but surely we will not double dip WR?!

Adonai Mitchell got dinged on character. Will Sweat (expected R2) also get hit (not that we need another massive DT rather than a 3T)?
