Ok, BBH Members. Just a friendly competition. Pick the order of the Top three horses, Win, Place and Show. Suggestion is to pick them the day of the race before 12 PM EST. 12 PM EST the day of the Race is the Cutoff for all entries. If your horse is scratched after 12 pm you will not lose any points for that pick. Only the first 20 Entries Qualify for each Race in the order they are posted.
50 points for the winner, 30 points for the Place and 20 for the show. However, if you lose the Place Horse you lose 30 points. If you lose the Show, you lose 20 points. Win, Place and Show can not be the same horse. You only get position credit points. Meaning, you can't pick the same horse to win, place and show and you won't get double credit on a place or show hit. Example, if you picked a horse to Place and the horse won the race, you get credit for the Place pick only, not both.
Win: You bet on a horse to finish first.
Place: Your horse must finish first or second.
Show: Your horse must finish first, second or third.
You must pick three horses to be eligible. Points carry over to the following Race.
Then we will do the same for the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes. The point system will be the same but in order to qualify for the next race you must have at least a Show Winner in the previous Race. As you can see some strategy is involved here as to when you will post your entries because if you're late you may not qualify and whether you choose to continue on the second or third race.
We will declare a winner of each Contest and a winner for the combined Triple Race Competition.

Here is an example:
Terrymeisner Derby- Win and Show= 70 minus 30 place loss= 40 points
Terrymeisner Preakness- Place and Show= 50 points
Terrymeisner Belmont- Win= 50 minus 50= 0
Terrymeisner Total Points= 90 points
Dasher Derby- Place and Show= 50 points
Dasher Preakness- Show= 20 minus 30= -10
Dasher Belmont- Place= 30 minus 20= 10
Dasher Total Points= 50 points
Vette Derby- Win, Place and Show= 100 Points
Vette Preakness- no entry= 0 points
Vette Belmont- Disqualified
Vette Total Points= 100
ELCHALJE Derby- Place and show= 50 points
ELCHALJE Preakness- Place= 30 minus 20= 10
ELCHALJE Belmont- Place and Show= 50 points
ELCHALJE Total Points- 110
MightyGiants Derby- Win 50 (Only picked one horse) Disqualified
In the Case of a tie of total points, the Member with the most first place winners is the tie breaker, the second tie breaker is the Member with the most combined Win, Place and Show Hits.
I wanted to make sure our Cafe Press site was still up and running and it appears it is. Kevin (RemembersHuff) added a couple of Ball Cap Items for us just now. So...the winner get his or her choice of any one of the BBH items. Final decisions will be made by the Moderators in a vote and I will be a tie breaker. I will not be entering the contest for ethics reasons.

i haven't finished going over the charts thus far....this is a wide open derby and we could see some huge payouts
nyquist will be the fave but i'm not sure he can go the distance....go Giants!!!!!
ps....i also think you should put picks in....this is a hard race to handicap
Thanks, Terry. If I don't get enough members interested, I'm going to pull this. Maybe people think they don't know enough about horses but it's easy. Just look at the odds and pick a first, second and third place horse.
I' ll get this going:
Winner #13 Nyquist
Place #11 Exaggerator
Show #14 Mohaymen
OK - I'll go out on a limb....
Winner - #11 Exaggerator
Place - #2 Suddenbreakingnews
Show - #13 Nyquist
Win - Brody's Cause
Place - Nyquist
Show - Exaggerator

the two TOM horses in the field Mo Tom and Toms Ready are owned by Tom Benson , the owner of the NO Saints....while they are both nice horses, they don't belong here....go Giants!!!!!
My Man Sam
___________
Ed....now that is a hunch bet if i ever saw one.....go Giants!!!!!
Clarification of the rules. If you pick a horse to Show and that horse came in first, second or third you get Show credit. You do not get Win credit unless you picked that horse to win. All three picks must be different horses.
All picks and changes have to be in by Noon today and I'll be locking the thread shortly thereafter.
My picks:
1- Win: Gun Runner
2- Place: Exaggerator
3- Show: Nyquist
I'll probably change my mind again before the race but i have to go out so here goes......
1. Mor Spirit
2. Creator
3. Nyquist

4Ever= -30+20= -10

I accidentally listed my horses in backward order. I submitted Gun Runner, Exaggerator, and Nyquist in that order and meant it the other way around...lol :what:
what a great ride Nyquist got from his jockey....i had doubts about him getting the distance but he handled the distance well.....go Giants!!!!!

You should have boxed it. Or did I forget to mention that? ;)
Terry, that was why I couldn't put him in the win. I didn't think he could handle the distance. I won't make that mistake again.
Can't wait for the next 2 legs.

When is the next race?
When is the field set?
the Preakess goes on May 21.....a maximum field of 14 horses to go 1 3/16 miles
the field isn't finalized yet but a lot of the derby horses are going to try again by the looks of the early entry list
the Preakness field is now set with 11 horses going to post.....Nyquist on top of Exaggerator looks like the bet .....go Giants!!!!!

And....they're off....
Win - Exaggerator
Place - Stradivari
Show - Nyquist
Win : Nyquist
Place : Stradivari
Show : Exaggerator
Win- Nyquist
Place- Stradivari
Show- Uncle Lino
Stradivari is a nice horse but he is taking a HUGE jump in class.....his highest level of racing is a $62K allowance race and he is moving up to a Grade 1 stakes.....in baseball terms that would be like moving up to the majors from A ball
Still waiting for 4 other picks by noon today. Anyone can put their picks in but only the members who put in their Derby picks qualify for the Triple Crown Contest.
1st - Nyquist
2nd - Exaggerator
3rd - Stradivari
Pure chalk...I know, but I didn't like any of the other horses. I don't even like Stradivari that much, but nothing else looked good to me.
Cid
it's raining in Baltimore today but I'm not sure it will rain enough to make the track muddy....if it is muddy , it will help Exaggerator
1. Nyquist
2. Exaggerator
3. Collected
My picks for today's Preakness
1) Nyquist
2) Exaggerator
3) Abiding Star

What do you think of Stradivari opening today at 1-2 as a result of the owners of Pimlico placing an $80000 win bet OK n him at Laurel yesterday? What do they know?
And why not wait until later later today to place their bet?
Unless they wouldn't be allowed to?
I'm sure race people are talking.
Ok, here are the results of the second leg and the combined total (Check your own scores please):
Preakness Results
4 Ever= 50 minus 30 plus 20 = 40
Whales= 0 minus 30 plus 20 = -10
Vette= 0 minus 30 minus 20 = -50 and Disqualified from further competition
Cid= 0 plus 30 minus 20 = 10
Terry= 0 plus 30 minus 20 = 10
Jolly= 0 plus 30 minus 20 = 10
Combined Standings
Jolly +50 +10 = 60
Cid +50 + 10 = 60
Whales +60 -10 = 50
4ever -10 +40 = 30
Terry -10 +10 = 0
Congratulations to 4ever for picking the winner of the Race! Nice job everyone. Anyone can still win the Triple Crown.
When is the next race?
the Belmont goes on June 11

I see that Stradivari is a 5-1 favorite at this time. Don't forget to get your picks in by noon Saturday.
Since I'm out this is for fun:
Win- Exaggerator
Place- Stradivari
Show- Destin
Win : destin
Place: Stradivari
Show : Exaggerator
So the picks are locked and I like the strategy of leading without a pick in the Belmont. Good luck and I'll unlock this thread and untack it.

I put the results up on the Moderator Board for them to validate the results of the contest. I'll post the results when I get their OK.
Still no replies from the Moderators on this.

Looks good.
although, next year you should require a selection for each race.

FTR...I tried to enter my picks on Friday, but my wifi carrier (comcast) was having trouble in our area & didn't get it resolved until Sat evening...after the race. I know I wouldn't have picked either of the horses that came in 1st or 2nd, but I would have picked Exaggerator to win.
That said, <speech insert>...I want to thank all of the people who helped me reach this point in my race picking career: body by Jake; my personal trainer whom without I couldn't have done this, Uncle Buck; my handicapper at the local horse track, my...O.K. all kidding aside...Vette this was fun & I look fwd to next year's contest...thanks for running it!!! =D> =D> =D>
Congrats to Jolly for winning too!
Cid
I do not feel as if I deserve to win (or tie for the win) as I lost interest after Nyquist couldn't handle the mud in the Preakness and then was pulled from the Belmont. Regardless, I enjoyed playing along for the first two legs. Thanks for going through the trouble of setting it up so the rest of us could have some fun on the side.
