Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on Today at 10:36:19 AMI've spent a lot of time (too much actually) thinking about how many of this year's draftees will become starters out of the gate, which from all I've heard and read over the years (and I'm old), is the true measure of a successful draft

Without a doubt, Nabors is a day 1 starter;  I think Nubin is a day 1 starter as well; and I think there's an above average chance that Philips starts at Nickel. I think Theo Johnson will see quite a few snaps this season, but not necessarily as a starter, but he will be eventually and become to the Giants, what Witten was to Dallas (had to throw that in). Tracy will probably start as a STs player and, like Theo as TE, will eventually become a regular starter as a RB and gadget player. I have no clue about Muasau, unless he's a superb STs player...and to be honest, I'm still scratching my head over that pick; although, it makes sense if our new ST coach, Michael Ghobrial wanted him and thus, had a lot of impact on the pick, as he was a STs demon at Hawaii when Ghobrial was there  :-?? I think that's the same reason we picked up Eluemunor in free agency, as he was one of Bricillo's star students/players at the Raiders. It's nice that Schoen respects his coaches enough to allow them a chance to reunite with a player that is special to them...but I digress

So, if I'm right, three of the draft picks will be starters on day one, and two will become starters soon (within two years). If I'm right, that makes this a very successful draft

Post draft, Secondary especially corner is my biggest concern right now. They addressed WR1 with a top 6 pick who carries a legitimate blue-chip grade that is higher than most WR1's in most 'normal' draft classes. They addressed safety with an extremely instinctual split zone ready type safety in Nubin and have two OK guys in Pinnock and possibly Belton. They added 5 vet OL , FIVE, and most importantly an OL ball coach who really seems to be a 'good one'. CB we got Banks maybe McCloud and a bunch of very young ,injury prone or just unproven guys after that. In these 3-4 WR sets that are run more frequently , that's a dangerous recipe. They lost Adoree, the main veteran presence back there.

I think they are going after one post draft.

Akella Witherspoon, Gillmore, Nelson, Peterson. All still out there. Akella is 29 and steady. He'd be my choice. Followed by Gillmore who is older but was still half decent last year.

For those who are down on the direction of the team, this article by Connor Orr might be of interest.

Giants Rightly Passed on a QB in the 2024 NFL Draft
Deciding to be patient and sticking with Daniel Jones, while also winning more games in the interim, will get New York back on track.

Here are a list of the predictions the critics of Daniel Jones have gotten wrong.

A) No QB has ever been re-signed who has gotten his 5th year year option declined, they were wrong.

B) The Giants will draft their franchise QB this year, they were wrong.

C) Eisen before the draft "The Giants are absolutely done with Daniel Jones", they were wrong.

D) Here is the new one, they are now having to make up excuses as to why he succeeded in 2022, instead of actually  acknowledging that he played well, they were wrong.

The question is, what are these critics going to do if DJ plays well in 2024 and the Giants make the playoffs again?

We will have to see how this transpires.

Since the Giants gave Johnson the "big bucks," I did a little digging.  He was one of Tony Pauline's sleepers

The haters-you know who y'are- gonna hate. Baiters gonna 'bate. Whereas, a true Giants fan will wish Daniel Jones good health, and everyone on the on the team and in the organization, success in the coming season.

In any case, we all know the very particular ifs, ands, and buts which are most likely to influence the eventual outcomes and decisions in due course, and sans our assistance.

Cheers!

@Rosehill Jimmy

Here is another report citing the same offer

QuoteA source said the New York Giants had offered the No. 6 overall pick and their 2025 first-round pick, while the Vikings were ultimately willing to part with No. 11 and No. 23, along with a 2025 first-rounder, in exchange for the third pick and two mid-round selections from New England.

Asante transferred to Wyoming from Holy Cross.  He'll be competing with another former Patriot League rival, Dequece Carter who was invited to rookie minicamp.  Carter transferred to Indiana from Fordham. Having watched both for 4 years, I think Carter was the better WR (though I admit to being somewhat prejudiced  ;))

Quote from: Rosehill Jimmy on Today at 11:46:02 AMI thought I read here that our offer was 2025 1st and #47 & 107.

That was the report, which may have been inaccurate.

If Breer's report is accurate (and his reputation suggests that's likely), the Giants didn't exactly go all out in an effort to secure Maye.

Quote from: Ed Vette on Today at 11:11:33 AMYou're one of three fans on this poll who is excited. When I said this was a pivotal and important draft, I stand by that. IMO, they needed to draft a QB, even if it was the one you pushed that I said I needed more information on. I would have been happy with JJ McCarthy. Not with Jones for a 6th season.

I believe the reason I am excited is the same reason I was less excited pre-draft.  I had lower (perhaps more realistic) expectations going into the draft.  I had resigned myself some time ago that the Giants getting a QB in this draft was a long shot.

If you can't get your franchise quarterback, you need to focus on building up the infrastructure so that when you do, he thrives. Drafting Nabers goes a long way to improving the quarterback infrastructure.  I don't know what ultimately will happen at QB, but I can think if far worse things than building the support a QB needs.   Teams have gone to the Super Bowl or championship games with QBs they drafted in rounds other than one or didn't even draft their QB.   So, as long as the team is adding blue and red chip players and keeping an eye on the QB opportunities, I think the issue will eventually resolve itself one way or the other.
