Can we have a priest to pray for Tommy's health prior to kickoff?  :Giants:

Maybe Kafka should rely on a Magic 8 ball with his call sheet.

Does anyone know if he's the first quarterback of Italian descent to start for the Giants?

I believe that honor goes to Paul Governali (1947 and one game 1948)

Giants head coach Brian Daboll confirmed that DeVito will make his first NFL start in Dallas during his Wednesday press conference. The undrafted rookie will be backed up by Matt Barkley, who will be signed to the 53-man roster off of the Giants' practice squad.

DeVito will also be the third Giants QB to start a regular season game in the same season. Is that a record for the team also?

Actually, that has happened multiple times, with the most recent being Jones> Glennon > Fromm

Per the Athletic::

DeVito will be the 10th rookie quarterback to start a game this year, the most rookie starters since 1950. It's only Week 10! Bonkers.

Not even counting DeVito, 46 quarterbacks have started a game this year, 14 of whom did not begin this year as a starter.

I dare you, without cheating, to name the colleges for these QBs who have started a game in 2023: DeVito, Tyson Bagent, Aidan O'Connell, Clayton Tune and Jaren Hall. We'll run answers tomorrow for the good-hearted among you. What's also true: NFL QBs are getting younger — a lot younger — by average, as the older generation of signal callers slowly washes out after some astonishing longevity (Brees, Tom Brady, Eli Manning, etc.). Even before injuries to Aaron Rodgers and others, this year's Week 1 starting quarterbacks were the youngest in league history since 1957.

Cheers!

Tark was quite the Iron Man. The mad scrambler was probably hard to sack.

This is going to be as exciting as the rookie duo of Dave Brown and Kent Graham playing the Cowboys on Turkey Day in 1992. I've prayed we'd never have to see another performance like that again except, this time, I'm afraid it could be much, much worse.

How many of us long for the days of Glynn Griffing or Gary Wood?

Oh brother!

Peace!

No Sir.

1966

Earl Morrall
then
Gary Wood
then
Tom Kennedy.

Kennedy was signed midway through the season from the minor league Westchester Bulls.  He went 55 for 100 with 8 TD's and 7 Int.

In fact he so impressed HC Allie Sherman that, after Wood was lost in the expansion draft and Morrall was slated for trade, he was scheduled to be recently acquired Fran Tarkenton's backup in 1967.  Sadly a training camp knee injury ruined those plans.  The Giants held off trading Morrall to the Colts for a year until they could reacquire Wood following the 1967 season.

Kennedy went on to become a stuntman in Hollywood.

Morrall led the Colts to the super bowl loss to the Jets the first year after the trade. Craig Morton, also 1 of 3 in 1974, led Denver to the super bowl loss after the Giants traded him about 10 years later. Giants paid high prices to obtain both and got nothing in return for either in play or acquisitions. Tarkenton gave them good seasons before he left for little return and led Minnesota to 3 super bowl losses.

This is great, now we are reliving some of the worst Giant teams ever to have taken the field.

Just curious. How good was QB Jerry Goldstein? He was a very late draft pick that was once a frontrunner to win a starting job for the Giants. I think he had some success with Tampa Bay.

If you're just focusing on highlights, that should take about a min of your time. I wasn't alive, but keenly aware through my father and books that those were 'dark times.'

Maybe I'll dig out the 2007 Divisional game and watch it during Sunday's game. 🤔😎
