Interesting. In my case, my first word gave me "L,E, and S". Because I had to find a place to use the "L", I didn't get into that conundrum that afflicted you. But I can sure see how it would happen. Wow! Normally when you get 4 letters (in the right place to boot) it's a done deal. Not so fast I guess

No rhyme or reason, first two guesses were pulled out of the air. Getting the "G" and "N" in my second attempt pretty much laid it out for me. Almost no options with those letters and "BEGIN" popped into my head

On the one hand I felt a little screwed not having any greens or any new letters after the third guess, but on the other hand by that point I pretty much knew where the two yellows had to most likely be and I had a ton of common letters eliminated.

This one made me think a little more than normal. Guess all thinking ain't bad  :P

LINEN - cycling through my WOF letters
BEGIN - couldn't think of a word with the '_ _ E I N' pattern so I transposed the yellow letters and 'BEGIN' fell into place.

@MightyGiants Yes, I use filler letters as well when I'm stumped.

I am curious, am I the only one that put up letters on the board to help think of guesses?  I mean, if I have a few letters, I will put those letters where I think they should go and then put "X" for the missing letters.  That sometimes helps me visualize what I am looking for.

I actually have never tried that. Seems like a good idea.

I do it all the time. I know the "X's" won't allow the word to be correct, so it helps me think it through. Been doing it since the second time I ever played the addictive game...like 3 months before this thread even started...LOL

With only 2 letters after 3 guesses I thought I was screwed so I just tried to use some consonents came up with the word. No one was more surprised than me when they all turned green.

weigh (from here, I knew the "e" was the second letter.  It seemed likely the "i" was the 4th letter, by process of elimination)   The "g" sort of stumped me.  I couldn't think of a word that began or ended with the g so I was looking at XegiX.   Then the answer just sort of hit me- begin
