Big Blue Huddle / Re: What day 3 QB would you take?
March 07, 2024, 11:52:11 PM
For the record, waiting that long to take a QB would be a huge mistake. Out of the four I would take Rattler, only because I've heard the most good things about him. Pratt has accuracy issues and Milton is a guy I'd never heard of before he showed up at the combine with a big arm.

He's made of glass these days. If I were him I'd retire to save my health.

I voted McCarthy on a gut feeling that he's the right guy. Daniels is my second choice, Maye is my third, and I want nothing to do with Williams.

Kind of, yeah. I always remember the story about Tom Brady falling asleep in the locker room before Super Bowl XXXVI because it took so long for the game to start.

Quote from: Philosophers on February 12, 2024, 12:48:22 AMA new QB can work magic provided he has average around him.  In the Giants case their OL gave up 85 sacks.  Nobody works magic with that.  More likely gets hurt.  Fixing OL is priority #1 and getting a QB is priority #2.
Once again... that's a 2020-22 argument. I'm done beating my head against that wall and I hope the Giants are too.

So after seeing the Niners fall short in the big game yet again, is anyone still on board with Tiki's "build everywhere but at QB" argument? Just checking.

In February 2023, I would have agreed with him.

Here's the problem: a whole year has gone by since then. There was a season called the 2023 season, and it was bad. Really bad. Not just bad, ugly and boring and the equivalent of watching royal blue paint dry. Because we do not have a franchise quarterback. At one time I thought we did. I was wrong. So is Tiki.

Everything we failed at in 2023, and everything Houston succeeded at, destroys his case. Rebuilding team, bad line... didn't matter. They were a force to be reckoned with because they got the right quarterback. It's time we did the same.

Can we leave them there?

You don't abandon aggressive football when it's what got you there in the first place. Another Lions touchdown would have effectively clinched the game, but when they didn't get it, the Niners seized the momentum and never gave it back. Gotta respect that.

The Lions didn't lose because they passed up a field goal in the third quarter. They lost because of how they reacted to the Niners coming back. They got nervous and sloppy while their opponents stayed focused. That's a valuable learning experience for a team that was playing with house money anyway. Congratulations to both teams.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: NGT - Divisional Round Games

I can't stand the Ravens. Partly because every time a game is played there we have to see or hear about Ray "Double Homicide" Lewis. But also because their city is a mess and they just tick me off. So, go Texans.

Other: Go away and sell the team so I can't meddle with it anymore. The only common denominator of all the playoff disappointments from 1994 to now, has been myself (Jerry). Obviously that is the problem.

Possible? Yes. Advisable? No.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants Hire Bricillo as OL Coach
January 11, 2024, 08:55:22 PM
In the 2022 season, [Bricillo] oversaw an O-line that helped protect the league's rushing champion, running back Josh Jacobs, who ran for a total of 1,653 rushing yards.

As Las Vegas' O-line coach, he was well respected in the Raiders' locker room, especially by his O-line group. This season, he was able to adapt to adversities amongst his starting front, including injuries to team captain Kolton Miller, center Andre James, and offensive tackle Thayer Munford Jr.

I like the sound of this.

Quote from: MightyGiants on January 08, 2024, 08:39:55 AMThe Giants need to set the market for O-line coach pay.  The biggest thing the Giants can do in terms of improvement is acquire a top-notch offensive line coach.
Personally I'd call up Dante Scarnecchia and pay him whatever he wants to come out of retirement. He's one of the best the game has ever seen, and Daboll at least knows him.

We need a new quarterback this year, not next year.

For a long time I believed Jones could eventually be the guy if we just built a better team around him, but that ship has sailed. C.J. Stroud was drafted by a team just as bad as the Giants and still elevated them to the playoffs. Jones took four years to get there and doesn't show any signs that he'll be able to do it again.

So yeah, let's go get a quarterback while we have a relatively good class to pick from.
