Big Blue Huddle / Re: Do you agree?

Quote from: londonblue on May 31, 2024, 03:39:59 PMNot if I am offered a choice.

Pressures were undervalued historically but that does not mean they are as or more valuable on a play. Sacks usually gain field position and loss of down and the possibility of a fumble (an important % of NFL fumbles are sack fumbles year on year). Pressures bring a chance of loss of down and a slightly elevated chance of an interception per the data metrics.

Sacks are clearly more impactful as an individual play but they are less frequent so perhaps in total over an average game (rather than as an individual play) pressures might make a bigger combined contribution. Maybe in that specific way he has a point.

Which would you prefer to have a game with zero sacks but ten pressures that completely wreck the play, or a game with two sack and four pressures? I know which one I prefer. Pressures also lead to interceptions which are awesome too.

Quote from: MightyGiants on June 01, 2024, 07:40:00 AMWe haven't had a "fun" player to watch since Barkley's younger and healthier days when we would be treated to the occasional homerun rush (or catch).

I hope you're right (I suspect you are).  This team will hopefully be more fun to watch this season.

Kinda get where you're coming from but it's a lot fun to watch Big Dex wreck interior lineman.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants waive RB Brightwell

I hated that pick when it was made. No production in college but was somehow expected to produce in the NFL? A complete waste of a pick even for a 6th rounder. Another Dave Gettleman special. Smartest man in the room.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: What Waller has been up to

Quote from: Stringer Bell on June 01, 2024, 09:41:40 AMIt is gettin old, for sure, but for different reasons. The reason Waller is going through a "public" divorce is because he's consciously making choices to release horrible auto-tune drama ballads and speak on podcasts about it. This could be private and easier, but his actions don't allow that to happen. He has no one to blame but himself.

I really wish the Giants would just move on from him. He's washed.

It's how he chooses to handle it. Considering his past demons I'm glad he decided to deal with it by writing a shitty song but and the end of the day he's a human being not the property of the NY Giants and it's fans. It's ok to not have to have an opinion on his off field pursuits.

This is getting old. Players are allowed to have interests outside of football. The dude is going through a very public divorce. Let him cope how ever he wants to.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Mixed bag for Lock today

Drew Lock isn't a good quarterback. I have more trust in DiVito than Lock but they both stink. Jones marginally less so. Quarterback purgatory sucks.....

Big Blue Huddle / Re: OTA 2 reports

Due to injuries Neal has only played in 20 games. I get the frustration but some patience is warranted IMHO. The Giants did him no favors saddling him with the worst offensive line coach in the league the last years.

Quote from: Philosophers on May 22, 2024, 05:34:53 PMAs a string bean he may not be anle to press any WR.

Again, at what point did you look at him and say he wasn't strong enough to play corner in the NFL?

What does it matter? I can't recall a single time watching him play and thinking to myself he would have made that play if he was 15 pounds heavier.

Quote from: Trench on May 17, 2024, 01:05:18 AMInteresting regarding Maye as it pertains to our own scouting dept which wanted to give up the ship for the guy. Obviously it's week one and time will tell. Interesting however

I posted a scouting report from a former NFL quarterback about Maye. He said he was at least a year, if not two away from being a starter. New England is going to feel the pressure to play the 3rd pick overall right away. If they're not careful they are going to ruin the kid.

I think you answered your own question. They've hit pay dirt twice with the coaches and quarterbacks but only once with their GM's.

Quote from: MightyGiants on May 07, 2024, 11:20:59 AMThe funny thing is that he did have 1 INT, but it was called back due to a penalty (the penalty was not on Phillips).

While I prefer ball-hawks, I have seen DBs who are skilled at preventing completions from doing well.  I think former Giant Adoree Jackson could be an example.

Jackson was a ballhawk at USC and fairly good his first couple years in the league. The other concern is that Phillips only had five passes defended last year. His last year at USC Jackson had 11. I hope I am pleasantly surprised but I think his career might be close to Darnay Holmes than to Jackson's.

He is an intriguing prospect but for him to have 0 ints in college is a huge red flag for me. Cedrick Dort, Wisconsin's worst starting cornerback the past 20 years managed to pick off one despite having hands of stone and no ball skills. I don't know how much room there is in the NFL for non ball hawk cover guys there are in the NFL.

Meh, I've seen enough of Lock to know he isn't a starter in the NFL. If he beats out Jones we'll be in line for a top three pick, which might not be a bad thing for the franchise.

Quote from: MightyGiants on May 06, 2024, 03:44:18 PMand @madbadger   Tracy was a WR at Iowa, so he was taught how to block even before going back to his old HS position of RB

Come on, you really trying to equate blocking a 190 pound corner lined up directly opposite you with having to quickly identify the blitzer and trying to stop a 250 pound man moving at full speed? They aren't even remotely similar.
