Hope you feel better and recover quickly.  Take it easy especially when the pain meds wear off.  And, if they prescribe painkillers, take them if you need them. I tried being a macho man and not take anything and my blood pressure went through the roof.  Rest up

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 18, 2024, 02:01:55 PMThe Pats and Panthers look like the worst teams to me.

I'd struggle to keep the Giants out of the bottom four though. I thought we were worse than our 6-11 record last year, and I am not convinced the team improved in the offseason overall (yes we gained a couple of very talented players but we also lost three).

I'd probably go (in order of badness):

1. Pats
2. Panthers
3. Broncos
4. Giants

I think there is a bit of a gap between the two worst teams and the next group though. I don't put the Broncos in the same tier as the Panthers and Pats.

Pats have a good to very good defense although it will be interesting to see how they play without BB.  Plus, either Brisset or Maye would be an upgrade over Mac Jones.

Quote from: coggs on May 17, 2024, 07:05:26 PMIs Igor expected to stop the shots that are wide or high, on top of the ones that are on net?
Igor, and other goalies , regularly stop shots that would go wide or high.  Every goalie considers themselves lucky when a shot hits the post or a crossbar.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 17, 2024, 04:22:54 PMIf you knew this team was winning this game during the second intermission, kudos to you, but feel free to share that prediction in real time next time. Any dope can call people out with the gotchas after the fact.

Any Ranger fan that was confident of winning last night, after 2 periods, after the awful game in game 5, was either smoking pot or drinking something strong or an eternal optimist.  In fact, after rewatching the 3rd period, I'm of a mind that we were incredibly lucky to win.  We survived a 3rd period where the puck hitting the post, another hitting the crossbar, another point blank shot from in close that went wide and another awesome (understatement) save from Igor.  And, we scored on an iffy penalty call.  I'm guessing that the Hurricanes, whom I cant stand, are kicking themselves for having lost a winnable game last night.

The article touched on the problem that confronted Schoen caused by making the playoffs in 2022.  There is no way they give Jones his contract if they were bad as most expected them to be.  Making the playoffs and having to deal with Barkley along with a meddling owner (in my opinion) forced decisions Schoen no doubt regrets.  Nevertheless I think he has a plan that will work if given time.

I dont know the answer to this- just asking.  If you looked at the top 10 WRs today, or top 5, how many would you think are fast?

Quote from: Rosehill Jimmy on May 07, 2024, 04:57:53 PMI remember hearing an interview with either the radio voice or a beat writer with the Bills immediately after the hires.  He said look for the Giants to increase the speed among wideouts as it was a trait Daboll values
Its team wide need for speed, not just WRs

Bingo.  It's scary what the Giants would have been like if George Young never came.  And, Wellington would never have hired him if he wasn't forced to.

Quote from: AZGiantFan on April 29, 2024, 12:55:31 PMFor me, the 2 worst takes I've heard are that the receiver rich and QB-less Vikings wanted to trade up for a receiver, not a QB, and that the Giants were hoping that Alt fell to them.
You can make the case that Alt was the Giants pick if Nabors was gone.  Alt was a top 5 pick in more than one report, was regarded as the best OT in years and may have been BPA if Nabors was gone.

McCarthy, I think, was a different story.  They had lots of reasons to think that the Giants would jump at McCarthy if available without a trade up.  Once they passed on him, I would have expected a massive offer to move up to 7 or 8.  I'm assuming it never happened.  But, Atlanta drafting Penix really throws a curve into McCarthy's perceived value.  It's entirely possibly that getting Nabors with s rookie contract, if he is that good, would allow them to trade Jefferson and safe a boatload of money and recoup a huge return.  Not the craziest idea

Once the initial elation passed, I was totally surprised that many fans thought we overpaid.  Or, that we could have gotten someone comparable staying with the 4th pick.  I thought then and now that Accorsi, who I was not a fan of, basically stole Eli from the Chargers.  I didnt know then but to me, it didn't take too long to see that Big Ben and Rivers were physically gifted but questionable that they would work here mentally or emotionally.  Last, I saw Eli beat an Old Miss team playing an SEC powerhouse with about 10% of their talent

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 20, 2024, 12:16:14 PMLet me guess: the person who came up with this proposal is a Giants fan?
A Giants fan that is celebrating 4/20

If the Giants had lost to the Eagles on the last game, all things being equal, would we have the 5th pick or would it still be the 6th?

Quote from: Philosophers on April 18, 2024, 10:55:09 AMDo you think good QB play and good OL play would elevate Slayton's play further or is he sort of maxed out and at his ceiling?  In another words, can he become a very good X?
Short answer is no.  Long answer, he can be more productive than he's been.  But, if they draft a WR at 6, he won't get much of a chance especially if Hyatt learns to run his routes better as expected .  Slayton wont be worth the money he wants

Quote from: kartanoman on April 15, 2024, 03:00:32 PMNice!

Did they put turf in Ronnie Barnes' office as well? (In jest, of course.)

Seriously, until the Giants and Jets and NJSEA generate a solution for permanent grass, I think the next best thing the Giants could do, within their span of control, is to go this route. Parcells did it after the 1983 season by hiring Johnny Parker and he transformed the careers of often-injured players; Phil Simms was at the top of that list.

I look forward to the players' comments.

Peace!

I think that a quality OL and a decent running game had alot to do with Simms avoiding injuries as he got older.  It didn't hurt that Parcells turned him away from being a gunslinger into a game manager.  In his early years, behind a terrible OL, Simms would stand in the pocket waiting for weak WRs to get open on deep patterns, a recipe for injuries
