Not to veer off the topic, but it still pisses me off to no end that those Cowpukes are always home on Thanksgiving. They wormed their way into this. I couldn't care less that they play on Thanksgiving, but they shouldn't always have a home game.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on Today at 07:57:24 PMLenn,

I am not surprised by the ranking.  The Giants offseason additions were not top echelon guys.  Thomas is the only guy on the line with any credentials for "rankings".

I think if they had traded for or signed a pro-bowl caliber OL they might have been ranked higher.  They signed a lot of mediocrity and added that to  a group that mostly rated worse than mediocre.

I don't know if they will be better.  I think they could be.  It seemed like most of the signees were better pass blockers than run blockers.  Maybe they can find one thing they do well and have an identity.  That would be an improvement in my opinion. Last year they couldn't run or pass block.  If they pass block well, they might be able to set up the run via the pass.

I'll believe it when it I see it.

Me also. But the point being, in a nutshell--WHY"

Why, when we already had the worst OL in the league, was this not addressed, even to the point of bringing in one quality guy to show fans that they are trying?
Yes, these new and hopefully, improved guys, maybe better than last year's crop (they certainly can't be worse), it just boggles my mind that we again are predicted to be at the bottom of the barrel, and management either doesn't care or is sluffing off on their jobs.

Quote from: Ed Vette on Today at 07:50:59 PMI answered your question. Maybe it wasn't loud enough. It's stupid to evaluate an Offensive Line with two new veteran starters, a second year Center, a new Oline Coach and no playing time together. Including how injuries will impact the continuity.

If PFF can tell us we have the worst OL in the league right now, how can they evaluate it and make that statement?

This year's Christmas Day double-header will begin with a matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers, followed by a game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans, the league said. Netflix is paying about $75 million a game this year, according to people familiar with the matter.

When our kicker is on a promotional poster and not our QB, says a lot about the opinion of where the talent lies on this team.

When I started this thread it was about the OL and, as usual, it has ended up being a referendum on Daniel Jones, like most other threads.

If anyone cares, what about our 'new and impr oved' OL? Is PFF right and do we still have the worst OL in the league or have we made some significant improvements to make it, at least, average?

' How many years now have we ended the season against the Iggles?

I hate playing on Thanksgiving

We should have had the bye before the Thanksgiving week game.

A new one, right from today's game. Something I don't think I have seen before.

1 out
man on 1st
Batter with a 3-2 count and the runner going, swings at a pitch in the dirt. The ball hits off the dirt and then hits him in the leg.

He starts to run to first but is declared out as 1st base is occupied. The runner who was on 1st is now on 2nd.
The manager of the defensive team comes out to the plate umpire, basically saying that since the ball did hit the batter, even though he swung at the pitch, it should be a dead ball, and the runner returns to 1st base.
In the rule book, it does state that t he ball is dead when it hits a batter.

What was our ruling?

Quote from: Trench on May 14, 2024, 01:37:21 PMMakes no sense to me. Our team stinks and yet our schedule is harder than teams who are clearly better.

The main reason is our division. We play the Cowpukes and the Iggles twice each so our strength of schedule is harder than the said Cowpukles and Iggles as they play the weak-assed Giants twice.

You are both now correct.
Once time has been called, in order to continue play or just put the ball in play, the pitcher has to go back on the runner and the umpire indicate the ball is now in play.

Since that never happened it is illegal. You can never do the hidden ball trick once time has been called.

some people put so much stock in what and how PFF ranks people, so here's their opinion of our new and rebuilt OL.

Big Blue Huddle / 2024 schedule
May 13, 2024, 08:10:35 PM
So, the wait is almost over. This Wednesday, the 2024 schedule will be released and we can see when and where we are playing whom.
Let's hope we do not begin, for the umpteenth time, against Dallas. Please, give us a break.

It has been announced that the opening regular season game will be Chiefs/Ravens rematch of the AFC championship game and then the Eagles play the Packers on the following night from Brazil.  (only on Peacock, except in GB and Philly).

So, who do we open against?

Man on 1st. 1st baseman calls time goes to talk to the pitcher. he secretly takes the ball and goes back to 1st. Pitcher goes back to the mound but doesn't go on the rubber. Man leads off 1st and is tagged out. Is this legal???

This is not a rules question but a most unusual 1/2 an inning that anyone will ever see.
Two of the best teams in NYC are playing each other. James Monroe from the Bronx is playing Richmond Hill at Richmond Hill's field. It was a great game with Monroe leading 3-1 going into the bottom of the 7th.
Leadoff batter gets a hit. Next batter doubles scoring 1. They change the pitcher. He strikes out the next batter. 1 out. Next batter strikes out but the ball gets away from the catcher. Instead of just throwing to 1st for the easy 2nd out, he tries to get the guy who was on 2nd, going to 3rd but was way late
Now you have 1st and 3rd, 1 out. The runner on 1st steals 2nd as they didn't want to risk the other runner scoring.
The pitcher strikes out the next batter, 2 out. They intentionally walk the next batter as he is the best hitter on the team
Based loafed, 2 out and the pitcher gets 2 quick strikes on the next batter. He then throws a great curve, in the dirt which the batter swings and misses. The cat her runs out and goes basically half way up the line to just throw the batter out at 1st. But he short armed the ball on what should have been just an easy toss and the ball bounced 2 feet in front of the ,1st baseman and bounced away, scoring the tying run. I'm standing there in disbelief. The pitcher then struck out the following batter.
What makes this interesting is that the pitcher struck out 5 guys in the inning and the team scored 2,runs.
BTW we played 10 and Richmond Hill won.
