I think it's being overthought...not exactly rocket science. Pretty simple really...we drafted Nabers. He is the main show and will be (and has been) used as such. And Robinson is extremely valuable in the slot and fills that spot perfectly, so he's getting chances. So it comes down to Slayton and Hyatt for WR3. As I've pointed out, Slayton is taller, has longer arms, bigger hands, and had a faster 40 time than Hyatt (albeit, just a couple tenths of a second) at the combine...plus, Slayton is experienced, and he has gotten rid of the dropsies (statistically proven). So basically, it's a coin toss between Slayton and Hyatt, and with Slayton's experience, he's obviously going to get more chances than Hyatt. And Slayton isn't getting used all that much as it is

Hyatt needs to relax, put in the work, stay in tip-top shape, be a good teammate, and he'll get his chance as WRs are always getting hurt. When his time comes, he must make it count. What he shouldn't do, is complain or ask for a trade

Quote from: todge on September 19, 2024, 04:56:41 PMDaboll has stated Jones is the smartest QB he has ever had in the QB room. Jones did have an academic scholarship to Princeton. I think a lot of the "can't read defenses" rhetoric came from a Dan Orlovsky clip of one game last year . If you look at DJ on the sidelines in between downs, he almost always has his iPad out trying to figure out what the defenses are doing.

As to the claim that DJ only locks onto one receiver - what do you expect? He has never had an OL that gives him time to read the field and go through his progressions.

My feelings precisely. He has a brilliant mind, but his eye-tell is his biggest flaw. I think it's because he's so skittish that he might make a mistake, that he locks in on his first target a little too long, and hesitates just a tad too much to make sure he won't end up making that possible dreaded mistake. Media and fans love to critique a player from the comfort of their own spot and then get to thrive when a mistake is made...and he feels it every time. You think he didn't hear those boos last Sunday? That's why I think we'll end up cutting him, and then he'll end up thriving on a smaller venue where old-fashioned laid back attitudes and kindness is inherent in the fan base (Indiana, Tennessee, KC [if they weren't already set] etc.), where every tiny detail isn't scrutinized to death by hungry unforgiving fans and making headlines in the press. Hell, look at Josh Allen in Buffalo - he throws three interceptions and the fans still cheer him on, even when they lose. Nothing like "no pressure". New York is a big, unforgiving stage and a pressure cooker - win, and you're king, lose and be taken to the shed and publicly chastised. It's been the fall of many an athlete in this city. If he just didn't give a sheet what fans think or what the press was saying, he'd probably play like a superstar...but he does care, and that's the big problem IMHO

Well, according to his coaches, he is excellent at reading defenses. I'm no coach and I have no inside information, but I believe his QB coaches know whether or not DJ understands and reads defenses

Quote from: Trench on September 19, 2024, 11:33:08 AMYes. But these are all things within his cognitive control

Not sure how "cognitive" fits the definition of DJ's problems, but here's my list of things that I feel make up a good NFL QB

Quarterback Rating [1-10]

Daniel Jones
Strong arm [8]
Accurate [9]
Mobile [9]
Height/size [10]
Reading defenses [9]
Puts in necessary work (he's a workaholic) [10]
Gets along with teammates (teammates love him) [10]
Confidence [zero]

The man has all the physical and mental elements that make up a great QB, but has completely lost his self-confidence (IMO) and it shows. It's as if he's so afraid to make a mistake, that it takes over all the best parts of his game. Watch Brady, Mahomes, etc., and what do you see? Superb confidence and unafraid to make a mistake. They don't take mistakes personally and move on. Jones on the other hand, quietly gets down on himself for making a mistake (and the media and fans reinforce it). He might thrive on a different team that doesn't have a media-microscope on him  :-??

That's my take and only an opinion

I'm in the camp of, "DJ must shine and show great stuff...or suck so badly that it's a no-brainer, and we head to the draft for a QB"...nothing in between. It's prove it time for Jones. I won't make any jumps to conclusion until the season has unfolded. I just hope the Giants turn it around and surprise everyone and look like a promising winning team, or be so bad we end up with the first pick in the draft...again, nothing in between...which is likely what we'll get  :(

I couldn't help myself and delved into "Bad Monkey" (Apple). It's painful waiting week to week for the next episode. I'm still waiting to start the new "Only Murders in the Building" (Hulu) and "Tulsa King" (Paramount+) so that I can binge it once they are complete. If anyone is wondering, Bad Monkey is great (7 episodes have dropped of the 8 episode series...one to go...next Wednesday)

As for me, I didn't laugh. I still love and respect Saquon. Not happy that he's an Eagle and glad they lost to a chump team, so there's that

I wonder how the Eagles fans will talk about Saquon now that they witnessed a flaw, and in return, lost the game. Will he get down on him and give him the Slayton/Engram treatment. Maybe

Here's what sucks  ~X(  (not the show, the releasing of episodes)

Tulsa King season 2. Be sure to mark your calendars for Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024 on Paramount+

One episode will be released, and the premiere will be followed up by one new installment weekly until the finale. The season has a total of 10 episodes to look forward to. We shared the episode release schedule below:

    Episode 1 - Sept. 15
    Episode 2 - Sept. 22
    Episode 3 - Sept. 29
    Episode 4 - Oct. 6
    Episode 5 - Oct. 13
    Episode 6 - Oct. 20
    Episode 7 - Oct. 27
    Episode 8 - Nov. 3
    Episode 9 - Nov. 10
    Episode 10 - Nov. 17
-------------------------------------------
Seems all the good shows being released are being dropped like a drop of water from a dripping faucet. I've been spoiled...if I watch a show and there's another episode, I want to watch it when I feel like it. I guess it's far better than when I was young and there was no such thing as a VCR...if you missed the show, you missed it and that was all there was to it

Other great shows that are being released right now via the drip method: Only Murders in the Building (Hulu), and Bad Monkey (Apple+)

Big Blue Huddle / Re: 0-16

0-16(17) is highly unlikely. But my dilemma is a little different. I want this season to be all about DJ. I hope he either crashes and burns, or becomes the second coming of Josh Allen...NOTHING IN BETWEEN. Let's figure it out once and for all. I don't want a 6 win season where DJ had some good games, and looked like crap in others...but still, just good enough to keep us from being able to draft a QB at the front end of the draft

It's painful because I like it when the Giants win games; however, this season is like none other. I was actually happy that Washington won the game at the end...otherwise, we'd be 1-1 and there'd be "hope". Something I have little of with this team right now, and I don't like being teased. Been there, done that - not only with this team, but certain relationships...which is neither here nor there. Forgive me for bithering

Quote from: LennG on September 13, 2024, 06:10:40 PMI guess stamps are going up again. Someone has to pay for those things

Stamps have gone up of course, but it's still one of the best bargains we can get to send something anyplace in the country for under a dollar (unless it's a package of course)...that is my opinion of course. Also, I am a huge critic of government overspending and pissing away money on waste. I for one, think the U.S. Postal Service is the one department that actually works as planned and isn't particularly expensive

Before the current fleet of trucks that are nearly 4 decades old and constantly breaking down. The USPS used left over jeeps from WWI and WWII before then, and then welded a cab around the driver...LOL. As a world leader in many areas, it was time to update our postal service to the 21st century IMO

Quote from: Leek21 on September 13, 2024, 04:04:50 PMSo does this poll show over 80% of Giants fans can't admit when we made a bad decision ?

When I put this poll up, it was primarily to see if fans (that I know) changed their opinions on resigning Barkley. Most people I know, thought it was time to cut bait (many were adamant that we should have done it earlier). Many also wished they had at least gotten a draft pick in exchange, but we didn't try to trade him. Fan unhappiness about that might well be justified

Philly offered Barkley a 3-year, $37,750,000 contract, including an $11,625,000 signing bonus, $26,000,000 guaranteed, with an average annual salary of $12,583,333. Barkley is 27, and will turn 28 during the season, with a lot of wear and tear on his body. There was no way that the Giants were going to match or beat that, as rebuilding the team was first and foremost on Schoen's/Daboll's mind, and considering our cap restrictions. For what it's worth, I think it's pretty risky of the Eagles to commit that kind of money on a RB. Time will tell

Regardless, I just wondered how many people changed their minds once Barkley went to the hated Eagles, and in his first game, scored 3 TDs. I know that the talking heads are now ridiculing the Giants' front office for letting him "slip out of their fingers". But that's to be expected from the pundits who make a living critiquing team decisions. Maybe they are right, but let's see how he does for a season before lamenting that we gave up on a superstar

I hear pundits ridiculing the Giants and say, "what do the Giants do when they need a game-changing player, they release their best and only one". Reminds me of my old girlfriend who was a baseball fanatic (Mets and Dodgers), who absolutely hated my Yankees (which she lovingly referred to as the "yank-me's" just to dig at me). She rubbed it into me one year when she told me, "What do the Yankees do when they need pitching? They release Ron Guidry"...then she would laugh so hard she would practically fall over. Bitch!  ~X(

Quote from: Philosophers on September 13, 2024, 10:15:05 AMPicking talent is hard but I also like the Committee approach.

It was effective when we had Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs - the "dancing scat cat" and the "bulldozer". I like that we have Turbo on our PS, as he could develop into the ultimate scat back, and Singletary is an adequate feature back, but it would be nice to have a power back...hence, I've discussed it in another thread that we should perhaps work DE/DT Baby Bison into a two-way player and use him as a power back at times (remember the play where he ran down the WR?) - he ain't slow. He was a RB throughout HS and early college before being remolded into a pint-sized defensive lineman. The kid is strong as hell and fearless and would knock a LB or S on their ass for those extra couple of yards...like the good old days when Brandon Jacobs would obliterate a would-be tackler

Whatever the case, a RB today must be able to catch a pass on a consistent basis and also be a part of the passing game. It's what separates McCaffrey (and Barkley) from other RBs and puts them into the next level
