Quote from: londonblue on May 27, 2024, 05:59:53 PMI agree on the give me wins sentiment Philosophers but I have to take issue on lucky v strong wins. I never played pro sports but I was a small cog in a talented team that won a national schools rugby title (my school's only one ever) here in UK. The team included 5 schoolboy internationals and two became adult internationals (1 England, 1 Ireland).

We squeaked a 15-12 win with a dismal performance in the round of 32 against a team we had beaten by 40 points earlier in the season. I stunk. Most of us did.

We were so down when we came off the field but our coach (a former England international) told us see it for the gift it was and to make the most of it by going on to win it all. We were 100% focused every game from them remembering our good fortune and won 4 consecutive games, the last 2 as the clear underdog, to win it all.

Sometimes the lucky wins create a platform for future stronger wins. We will see this season if the feeling and experience some of our younger guys got from those late season wins help them grow and compete better this year. I know it can happen. Not a given but no win is ever a waste in my opinion.

You make a great point.  I do think those moments are rare though.  I like to say that wins against top opponents are huge and wins against subpar teams are expected.  Same with individual play/stats.

Look at Michigan this year.  They beat up some bad teams early and folks questioned how good they were.  It was a legitimate question.  It was not until they beat Ohio St. Alabama, Washington and others and players had huge performances in those top games that they won the respect of people.

Blah Blah Blah.  Hear the same $hit every year.  Tired of hearing same old every year.

Strong wins are the thing only that matter to me now as they prove strength.  Luck wins expose crap later.

I cant wait to watch Nabers play.  Injust hope it's with real blocking and throwing and timely playcalling.

I dont want Dans to be a teacher.  I want his coaches to be teachers.  I want Dabs to have great organizational skills, strategize brilliantly and lead in a way that the team follows him.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on May 25, 2024, 06:25:21 PMYeah but I don't know if it's relative to games played that season because he started less than most.

Playing more game may improve or worsen the stat.  I dont think that matters.

Isn't 29% really high?

Quote from: uconnjack8 on May 25, 2024, 05:38:03 PMDead bottom or lower end of average, say within a couple of standard deviations from the median?

Think his weight for his height is more relevant than weight for his position.  Most CBs I think are not 6'1"+

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 25, 2024, 10:39:20 AMFor sure. He's still on his rookie contract. Not that it's a negligible amount of money relative to what he has given them, but they should at least use the time he's on it to see if he can contribute meaningfully in any way.

He needs to perform this year though, one way or another. While I agree that the Giants need to explore other spots on the line if he continues to be a bust at OT, this team also has a history of clinging to, accepting underperfomance from, and making excuses for picks they had high aspirations for that, in reality, simply weren't the players they thought they were. This happened with Will Hernandez, Lorenzo Carter, and a host of others in recent times that I'd rather not have to name because it's not a very pleasant topic.

I say work him to death with reps at RT wibut experiment early with him at RG.  See what you see.

Play him through first four games at RT and see how he plays. If he fails at RT yank him out of there.

If he becomes a good guard on another team and Giants never saw that, shame on the Giants.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 24, 2024, 03:55:17 PMFlott is skinny - no two ways about it. And given he has only gained 2-3 pounds in over two years now since the 2022 combine, it's reasonable to assume he's not going to get much bigger (maybe something like 180/182 is possible).

Being slight doesn't preclude him from being a respectable or even good player, but it is clearly not an advantage, either. We should keep in mind that it's not like we took this guy in the top 15 overall though. Mid third round is not typically where you find high-end starting corners. Maybe he's just a solid depth guy. If that's what he ends up being, I'd say that's not a bad outcome at all for a corner taken outside of the top 80 overall.

What I think it affects is his ability to hold onto a jam or press long enough and also in his tackling having less mass.

I am not a fan of all the constant. position switching.

Right.  BFW brings up the average a lot by himself yet he is nowhere near being a productive player on the team — at least not yet.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on May 24, 2024, 01:30:50 PMAm I crazy or is 180 not really small for a CB?

It's his weight for his height.

Big difference to me being a WR at 6'1" 177 vs a CB at that size.  WR receives violent hits but has tools such as ducking, twisting, going down to avoid sometimes the worst.

A CB has to initiate violence which means more direct straighline attack so his reduced mass is more of an issue.

I am not sure how I feel about what he said.  What is there to teach Andrew Thomas?  Line him up at LT and get him reps.

Why bounce people around so much now?  Give them 1 position to become an expert then teach others later.
