Quote from: Trench on Today at 10:17:42 AMThe Giants did not target him consistently whatsoever. That's not on him. That's on Jones or the game plan or both.

How could it be on Jones when he didn't play in the games Waller missed?  This is exactly what I meant when I talked about fact bias.

I can't help thinking that going from 'Assistant' to 'Manager' is a lot easier if you have the right last name.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 11, 2024, 09:40:12 AMJust out of interest, who is Ian Hartitz and what NFL-relevant professional experience or credentials does he have? His X handle says he's "president of the Cordarelle Patterson Fan Club" (which I assume is a joke) and that he does a fantasy football podcast. Does he have any actual experience that separates him from just any other fan who spends some of his spare time looking at NFL stuff? If the former applies, I'll probably start following him on X.

He didn't do the evaluations, pff did.  He did the math.

I hope there was no betting in that weight loss competition.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 09, 2024, 08:33:32 PMI get your point Lenn, but if you're doing these rankings you have to put the rookies somewhere if they're expected to be starters.

I'm not saying these rookie rankings are going to be accurate, but I'm not sure you should just automatically put them all at the dead bottom of the league if you're trying to give your forecast of where you think they'll be. I think the writer is making a speculative assessment here. He may be wrong in his assessment obviously, but just automatically ranking them at the bottom solely because they're rookies doesn't seem like the best approach to me.

IMO you don't put the rookies at the bottom of the list, you leave them out.

Quote from: TONKA56 on May 09, 2024, 03:21:58 PMI guess I'm wrong then but he certainly looked more aware of the backside rushers, where pressure was coming from, and when to escape the pocket and take what he could.  Why do you say the line was better? Based on availability?

Andrew Thomas.  Justin Pugh.  Playing together for a while compared to the pre-season merry-go-round Johnson did in the pre-season.

This is why I never trust anyone's eye test without some sort of statistical confirmation.

In the words of the late great Jimv, who is Cody Benjamin and why should we care about his opinion?

QuoteDaniels and Nabers shouldn't have publicized their bet, because they'll almost certainly hear about it from the league now that it's out. But it's ultimately a lot to do about nothing. Save the faux outrage for when it's necessary.

Totally agree.  Not surprised that Florio is one of the ones trying to mountainize this molehill.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 08, 2024, 07:47:31 PMYup. That game was a complete fiasco. One of the worst performances in franchise history if not the worst. We looked like an expansion team going up against the defending SB champs in that game. Even worse than that, actually. More like a college team playing a good NFL team.

We were only a 2 or 3 point underdog in that game too, and many people were backing the Giants.

We should have expected it after our joint practices and ps game with Detroit showed how the Lions were preparing far more intensely and purposefully than the Giants.

Quote from: expatriot on May 09, 2024, 11:45:54 AMI think for the money he is paid, 4200+ yards, 35 TD's, 10 picks, only 2 lost fumbles and 5 rushing TD's would be my expectation. (somewhere around Jared Goff/Brock Purdy neighborhood give or take) Winning and losing is a team effort, so that aside, if I see these numbers, he's earned his bag in my view.

So, better than Mahomes 2023 season*?  Pretty high bar.

Quote from: TONKA56 on May 09, 2024, 05:49:59 AMDeVito's pocket awareness is very good, I might even say special. Rourke must really be something.

And yet with a better OL than the Giants provided to DJ at the beginning of the season, he was sacked 37 times and had a higher sack rates per drop back than Jones.  That doesn't sound very special to me.

Quote from: B1GBLUE on May 07, 2024, 12:22:47 PMAt least he can tackle. if you cant give me picks, at least make a sure tackle. lot of cb's get 2-3 lucky int's a year and miss dozens of tackles. break up plays, and keep your guy from getting YAC. im ok with this from a 3rd round pick.

And a good tackler helps in run support where they need help more than they need help in takeaways.

Quote from: MightyGiants on May 07, 2024, 11:20:59 AMThe funny thing is that he did have 1 INT, but it was called back due to a penalty (the penalty was not on Phillips).

While I prefer ball-hawks, I have seen DBs who are skilled at preventing completions from doing well.  I think former Giant Adoree Jackson could be an example.

This 0 INTs thing seems like a classic case of focusing on a thing a player doesn't do to the exclusion of the many things he does do.

I also don't get why he is being pigeonholed as a slot corner by some when he played more than half his snaps outside.
