Another pretty good list that was sent to me today.
On looking thru it I kind of agree with them all. It doesn't say 'greatest cops' just memorable

I might also add
Steve McGarrett--Hawaii Five-O
Hal Lindon--Barney Miller
Frank Drebin--Police Squad
Christine Cagney and Mary Beth Lacey: 'Cagney & Lacey'
Mike Stone and Steve Keller: 'The Streets of San Francisco'
Let me add a couple of cops for the comedy set
Murry on the Odd Couple
Toody and Muldoon--Car 54 Where Are You
The best of them all.
Marshal Matt Dillon. Gunsmoke
Bill
A few they missed
Dragnet
Adam 12
The Rookie
The Police Squad

The topic is "TV" cops, not movie cops
I never watched a lot of cop shows growing up other than Hawaii 5-O and Kojak. I watched Columbo, but can't remember him as a cop and more of a detective or investigator...same with Sonny and Rico from Miami Vice
Anyway, when I think of TV cops I immediately think of
Andy Sipowicz (my favorite tough guy cop on NYPD Blue)
Kojak
Steve McGarrett
That's pretty much it for me. Good call on Barney Miller (had forgotten all about him)
KOJAK is always # 1 with me! =D> =D> =D>
For me, and this is just my opinion, the greatest cop show ever was Hill Street Blues. It had it all and pretty down-to-earth about it.
My favorite TV Cop wasn't a regular on any series, he was a one off character, but very memorable.
Joe Bookman - Library Cop!
