Head Coaches have a lot of irons in the fire gameday and to alleviate that potential crisis is such a benefit.
For those of you too young to know Handley was offensive backfield coach AND in charge of TIME MANAGEMENT.
It's the little things that eliminate potential disasters and to me just another reason Mr. Parcells resides in Canton and half of our Super Bowl trophies have his stamp all over them.
Very true. Almost comparable to "Mission Control." You see it at NASA before, during and following a rocket launch and all the way through to mission termination. The only difference between the two is if there's a functional issue before launch, and it cannot be resolved before countdown, the launch is stood down. In the NFL, the show must go on. For that, thank goodness! Yet, history is littered with many launches which had no business going forward which did. In the NFL, it's only a game and people went home at the end of the day. During the space race, it wasn't always the case.

Read numerous reports where he was barred from many casinos because he was a card counting wizard.
As to why he was promoted to HC, well that is on George Young. Good ol' George made as many disastrous decisions as GM as he did positive, which were also many. I guess that goes with the job.
