First, there is Jones' comments, and then there is Tyrod giving comments to the press that sound like he will be starting.

Daniel Jones said he "feels good" and is doing more each week. It's just about "passing a couple more tests" in order to get cleared for contact.
But Jones did say there are some symptoms. His optimism on not being shut down is in that it's a different injury than 2021 and there have been other players with similar injuries who have returned in a comparable timeline.
Jones wouldn't specify which players.

Whilst I'm pleased he's not re-injured the old neck injury, the fact he's got a second neck injury and verging missing on substantial time, for the second time in 3 years - it's not a dependable situation.
From the Kay Adam's interview I saw I would put the chances of him starting this week at 4%.

Jess,
I was aware of that interview, but I considered the possibility that the doctors wouldn't examine him and clear him until Wednesday (which was their first practice day). Now that he wasn't cleared, I would agree with our assessment.
I'm sure the Jets are preparing for Taylor and not falling for any ruse that Jones is going to play. With that neck issues, the most likely return will be Las Vegas. If that doesn't happen, he might not play again this season.
I have a feeling Jones neck only gets better after TT lays an egg
Think about 1-5 possibly headed to 1-15 put Schoen and Dabolls jobs in jeapordy
We have a history of intoerance of following up a good season with a disaster season
Ask Ben McAdoo, Joe Judge and Pat Shurmur

I don't really want Jones back there until Thomas is back and feeling healthy. Too much risk with too little reward.
Minimum 4 to 6 weeks from time of injury.
50/50 he is done for year.
You don't mess with neck/ cervical.

The one thing about journeymen QB is their inability to sustain high levels of play for more than two or three weeks. Every now an then you will get 5 weeks out of a Fitz and then the magic runs out (but only after they sign an extension). Plus, DCs have two weeks of tape now to sniff out tendencies. So maybe this is the week Tyrod lays an egg,

Plus, he'll be playing against a MUCH better defense.
Daboll can read the room. He knows it's better for TT to play at home against this Defense. The crowd won't be as brutal if things unravel. I don't see Jones this week either.
I think you are right Rich, in that case I would give the Giants around 30% chance for a W.

What odds would you give us if Jones were healthy and playing?

All things equal (O line playing better than when Jones got injured) I would give them ~50%
I agree Rich, I can't imagine him and Daboll risking a more serious injury.

That, and I suspect he may not want to depart from his "hot hand" (Taylor) right now to put in a QB who (1) has struggled this year for the vast majority of his play and (2) hasn't played a full game in three weeks.
I seriously doubt the claims suggesting that Daboll is holding back a healthy Jones from playing. Listening to Jones speak on his injury, it's clear there is an issue. Plus here is what Daboll has said:
Q: When he is healthy, is he definitely your starter?
A: Yep.
Q: Why him and not (quarterback) Tyrod (Taylor)?
A: I'm not getting into that. I mean, he's our starter. I've said it, I don't know how many times I've been asked, but I've said it a bunch.
Frankly, while I don't believe that Jones is ready to go and Daboll is just stalling, I am very concerned about when and if Jones returns. If you recall, last time Jones had neck issues he was practicing and every indication was he was coming back in a game or two, until he wasn't.
I suggest everyone take time to read this part of the transcript from Jones
Q: You're not symptom free?
A: There are certain things that I haven't done yet.
Q: Two years ago I think you were seeing a specialist, a spinal specialist in LA, did you have to do anything like that? Like go for a second opinion anywhere...
A: I haven't. I've been here in New York. I've gotten a couple of different opinions from doctors, but I've been here. We've got great doctors here in New York.
Q: What gives you optimism this time? Obviously, last time they had to shut you down, right? What gives you optimism this time that this is going to end differently?
A: It's a different injury. It's a different injury and I think when you see other guys that have similar situations as mine and they're able to progress and come back. I'm following a similar timeline to that. That's kind of the optimism and it's a different injury than last time.
Q: What players are you talking about that had similar injuries that came back?
A: There's been a number of – it's just a football injury. You know people in the past who have had it.
Q: Is it all the same treatment? Stim, ice, chiropractor, all that.
A: Yeah, I mean there are a number of different things you can do treatment wise that we do here with our trainers. Doing everything I possibly can to get back.
Q: Have the trainers and doctors shared with you what the risk would be if they put you on the football field and you did have contact? Especially in a certain area...
A: Yeah, they've shared that with me. I'm certainly trying as hard as I can to get back, but from the doctor's standpoint it's not something that he can clear me to do at this point so, trying to do everything I can to get back.
Q: This might be obvious, but do you have to be more sensitive because of the neck? It's not an ankle, it's not a shoulder, like is that part of this, where they have to be extra cautious?
A: I mean, I think any time you're talking about the neck you've got to understand the risk of reinjury and what would happen if you were to reinjure it so yeah, that's certainly a component of it.
Yup. I don't think Daboll even needs to think about what he would do if Jones were healthy. Moot point. Seems clear he is not playing this week.
The Jets' D is nasty. Taylor could have a very tough time this week.

I actually am very concerned for Daniel Jones. First a clavicle and then two neck injuries. He's susceptible to these upper injuries and I would hate to see him with permanent injury.
One thing though. Throughout all this... no neck brace. Nobody asked if he wears one while he's sleeping or if he has a special pillow. His neck is straight and not bent. When I was a youth, I had many stiff neck injuries and my head would tilt to one side. Why no details or specifics as to the injury?

Great point and question. I'd love to know the answer.
Anyone remember Patriots QB Steve Grogan. He managed to have a 16 year career (not always as a starter) while suffering from a serious neck injury that lead to him to wear a special neck pad under his helmet. So let's see how it plays out before writing his career off (not saying anyone has).
