Title: NGT - Around the NFL: Week 16
Post by: DaveBrown74 on December 23, 2023, 06:25:35 PM
Plenty of action the next few days starting today. Lots of playoff implications. Might as well get a thread going.

Pickens lighting it up for the Steelers today. This guy is an absolute thoroughbred stud. Still amazes me we passed on him for Wan'Dale. I know Wan'Dale has some upside but there is absolutely no comparing these two players.

I can't believe the Bengals threw the ball on 4th and inches. What a horrible play call in that situation.

How many backups this year have we seen that have 3 or 4 solid starts and then take huge steps backwards in the following weeks?

True.

Speaking of backups, Mason Rudolph probably got himself a backup QB contract with someone for next year after this performance.

The guy with the questionable hand size. That settles that.

Browning looked like he had no idea to read zone. Awful defense too for the Bengals. Plowed and exposed by a struggling Pitt offense.

The Bills almost screwed the pooch...eeking out the Bolts. Chargers showed fight after quitting on Staley obviously. Survive and advance as Tuna would say.

Totally agree. It couldn't have been from his measurable. Something else had to dissuade them-effort..attitude?

It has surfaced in Pittsburgh recently..but his talent is immense..obvious. ~X(

He definitely seems like a a bit of a diva type. His talent is undeniable though, and many wide receivers around the league (both presently and historically) have had this sort of trait. The guy unquestionably produces on the field though. As just a 22 year old second year guy, he already has over 1,000 yards with two games left to play, and I would say their QB play there has been suspect at best. Kenny Pickett is more of a check-down guy than a long ball guy, and Pickens is still putting up legit numbers. His yards per target is over 10, which is elite. Definitely a top shelf talent, and he'll keep getting better.

Kind of a weak-ish slate of games in the first batch at 1pm. Detroit at Minny is definitely the most intriguing of the lot. Browns at Texans is worth checking out, although no Stroud.

Best game of the day is clearly Dallas at Miami. Very intrigued by that one.

There are 7 games with stand alone time slots.  It's what the NFL wants, but there is only a certain amount of interesting games this time of year.

1 Thursday game
2 Saturday games
1 Sunday night game
3 Monday games

Doesnt leave a lot for 1 PM on Sunday.

Yup, I get it. I don't see why they're prioritizing Christmas Day games over Sunday. I could see doing one game on Christmas Day, but three?

Also the Sunday Night game sucks tonight.

Pickens had a lot of questionable stuff happen in college if I remember correctly and there was hesitation especially right after busting on Toney with questionable. So instead they played it safe.

Sam Howell is god awful. Probably the worst starting QB in the league. We can't pick behind them.

Fair play to the Lions. A few years ago, they were a 3 win team, they acquired a reclamation project at QB and now have won the NFC North.

Well done.

I hate to say this, but Trevor Lawrence has not lived up to the hype so far. I think he's pretty good but he has not shown any sign of being exceptional, which is absolutely what people thought he'd be.

Generational tag certainly seems... Exaggerated now. Despite being uninspired this season, he was still top-10 in QBR entering this week (though the rash of QB injuries this season may assist that).

Don't tell that to Nick Wright. He adores him. The Prince making his faithful wince. Btw. Tua is misfiring a lot today.

Exactly.. you'd think this would be a year for him to stand out. Injuries to tons of key QBs and down years for Mahomes, Allen, and Hurts. Plus he has weapons in his disposal in that offense and a reasonable schedule.

He did just turn 24 in October, so I'm happy to hold off for now, but if you're a Jags fan you can't love what you've been seeing with him.

Outside Calvin ridley who just missed a year I think the Giants have better skill players at WR, RB, and TE than the Jags which Is wild to say.

Good game down in Miami that went down to the final seconds. Dolphins win with a walk-off field goal and send Dallas reeling to a tough loss.

That Raider Defense is looking scary. Mahomes tying to carry the team around him which is being dominated at the LOS and in the Secondary. Pierce has done a nice job Turning them around.

Mahomes is overrated . I said it before and I'll say it again. Dude throws meatballs all game long. If threfs do not bail him out he will suck. The interception -- looked like a Daniel jones play. No idea why Jimmy G is sitting ona bench. Raiders QB looks like a practice squad QB. Although Jimmy G would have thrown a pick and lost the game, But he would have had more yards passing...

I agree. Very impressive performance tonight and a lesson for Purdy who tossed four INTs tonight.

This is the Super Bowl matchup I want to see as these teams are the best in the league this year.

Great football this past weekend.

It's looking like Baltimore figured out how to play defense after losing Wink. Last year they had so many losses where the defense let them down. This year has been much different. And Lamar has been healthy.

Baltimore/Miami might be a preview of the AFC Championship game but if Cleveland gets in... Baltimore should be worried.

The Browns came out of nowhere. Imagine if Watson worked out. Could be a swan song for a 38 year old Flacco.

I still don't trust Allen. When he plays within himself, he's deadly. When he gets a big head, he makes mistakes. When the playoffs start, there's very little room for error.

AFC would look a lot stronger if not for QB injuries IMO.

Browns have a top 5 defense and a top 5 OL.

That is truly amazing.  The Browns do not even have an elite WR group.  The TE is playing well and Amari Cooper had a historic game, but it's not like they have the WR group of Cincy or Miami.

I agree it's incredible.

Pittsburgh is pretty awful too. They have George Pickens, Diontae Johnson, Pat Freiermuth, and two solid pass catching backs on that team. Wow.
