Title: Draft record
Post by: LennG on November 09, 2024, 03:01:34 PM

With not much to do this afternoon, I had a conversation with my son about the Giants drafting the past decade (10 years), as to our #1 picks and really, it is disturbing. This is thru 3 different GMs and during these 10 years we have had 13 #1 picks overall,  8 picks in the top 10, and out of those 8, top 10 picks 3 have been successful, a couple of borderline, one new and still unknown,  and the rest, well, we all know the story that the draft is a crap shoot.

2015--Flowers  #9
2016--Apple   #10
2017 Engram   #23
2018  Barkley  #2
2019  Jones #6
2019  Lawrence  #17
2019  Baker  #30
2020   Thomas   #4
2021  Toney  #20
2022   Thibs  #5
2022   Neal  #7
2023   Banks  #24
2024  Nabors  #6

With so many low number draft picks in the past 10 years, one might think we should have a pretty good team-NOT

Now can one team be so bad at drafting when we have had so many low draft picks?

We have hit on Barkley but it did the team no good. Lawrence and Thomas are the only true players who have helped this team the most and now Thomas may be done. How can one team have so many 'busts' with so many #1 picks?  This is why we have sucked for so many years while we watch other teams draft and enjoy the fruits of these drafts to stay relevant.
Now, except for Lawrence and hopefully Nabors, and MAYBE Thibs we fail to replenish our roster with talent.
This really sucks.

How does that compare with a very good team? Let's say the Chiefs, Buffalo and Baltimore?

I count 4 out of 13 that have been very good - Barkley, Dex, Thomas and Nabers.  That's horrible especially when so mNy picks were top 12.

I agree Phil. That was my point, with so many top 10 picks in the last 10 years how can we be worse every year?

Yeah we got help today with NO and the Pats winning.
The Jags don't need a QB not sure about Miami.

I feel like the Phins will roll with Tua until a doctors says no more. They need a solid backup. I can think of someone who will probably be available.

7 1st rounders in a 4 year period from 2019 to 2022.  Plenty of capital to turn around an organization.

I put this up and the more I think about it, it really boggles my mind. It wasn't just one GM but 3, so where does the fault lie? With scouting--do we still have the same scouts?
How can one team miss so many times? We know the draft is a crap shoot, but gosh, even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.
Did we give up too soon on Engram?
Barkley was a shiny hood ornament when we needed studs at many other places.
Why can't we hit on good OL we have Thomas and miss on Flowers and Neal. An OL, drafted in the top ten should be a fixture for 10 years, yet we can't get it right.

Did some one put a curse on our drafts?
