Title: Potomac plane crash:
Post by: MightyGiants on January 30, 2025, 12:33:00 PM
Sadly, they are reporting no survivors.  We had gone 15 years without a major plane crash  :(

Also, one of the figure skaters missed the flight because of his dog.

Absolutely horrible tragedy. Hard to understand how that could happen.

I am a huge fan of the Airline disaster tv show that reviews a crash in hour-long TV segments.  I suspect that the primary fault will be with air traffic control.   There are reports the helicopter was flying a couple of hundred feet too high, but if ATC is doing its job correctly, the craft don't get near that close.

I can almost guarantee that, ultimately, there will be multiple mistakes/breakdowns.  One of the reasons we had that 15-year run was that the system is well down, and it almost always requires multiple failures for something really bad to happen.

I wouldn't put too much stock in the initial speculation we are hearing.  They need to review the tapes of ATC, the flight and data recorders of both craft and even examine the wreckage before they can make sound assessments of the cause.

They were able to pull the crew from the copter. Tomorrow they will be working on the plane.

Yup. I am not putting blame anywhere. The eye test would seem to suggest that this is something that could have been avoided but until a comprehensive investigation is complete we won't know that. At the end of the day it's just an awful story.
