Coach Parcells (and Coughlin after him) always said "defense wins championships"....was proven tonight once again.
Does this change what we are thinking for the draft?...I'm not necessarily taliking 1st round...
To your point, when Bill Parcells was asked which player he would choose if he could start a team with any one player he'd ever seen play. This is what he said:
"There are priority positions in this game and quarterback is one of those, so I'd consider that. But if you're pinning me down – I'm a little prejudiced – I think I'd take Lawrence Taylor. I know he's going to be there every Sunday and try his best to win the game."
That's not to say any of the players in this draft are going to be Lawrence Taylor (they won't be), it just shows how much Parcells values a great defensive player compared to the opportunity to take a great QB.
It's a good question, and not an easy or obvious answer. I think Schoen will take a QB, but I'm personally leaning toward Hunter or Carter.

Such an interesting debate. I'm no college expert but if Hunter is a once in a lifetime talent should we grab him and go stop gap veteran QB

I'm with you but I'd caveat that with the point that he's specifically talking about LT, not just a great defensive player. I think that distinction is important.
He believed that Taylor would have more impact on a game than Staubach, Fouts, Bradshaw, Montana, etc.

He might be a one time talent because he excels at two positions but is he a better corner back than Abdul Carter is as a pass rusher or Mason Graham as a defensive tackle ?
I mean the Eagles put up almost 100 points in their last two games. So it's certainly not just on the D that they won the game.
A choir needs many voices to make a harmony. Last night was a clear example of that. All season long the running game with Barkley was working. It didn't last night so the Eagles found success with Hurts running (72 yards), mixed in with some big time throws and conversions - 4 receivers had over 40 yards, special teams were good as well.
Yes, the defense played a really strong game but they had contributions all over the shop.
As much as he's dislikable, Sirriani went from an absolute collapse from 10-1 to bounced in the wildcard last year, starting the season on the hot seat to Super Bowl champions in 12 months. All credit to him.
Anyway, I'm off for an acid bath - which will be more enjoyable than writing this post.
