Title: Post your mock drafts here
Post by: MightyGiants on February 13, 2025, 11:39:29 AM
I did one via PFF leaning heavily on BPA.  I doubled up at QB figuring two chances are better than one.  Admittedly, I seriously doubt Dart lasts this long

I don't view this as realistic at all, but this is what I came up with. Two trades in R1

Wanted a G at some point, but the opportunity wasn't there

I traded with the Jets, using their pick to take Dart

Both Milroe and Dart in Round 4? You'd better have lie-down, Rich. Then maybe that part of your Mock 2 won't look like an attempt to mock Joe Schoen beyond what he has been already as we know damn well that you expect nothing of the kind.

Lighten up, Larry

Mock draft simulators, first and foremost, are just fun.

They can also be educational in getting a sense of what positions will be available when.

Last year, I didn't play with them as much because they had guys like Nix, JJ, and Penix available in rounds 2 and sometimes 3.

Admittedly, it seems highly unlikely that Dart will be available in round 4.  Miliroe, I am not so sure.

Still, I suspect I could sub out those two names and put, say, Howard and McCord there, and my intent of double dipping would still be the same (just admittedly with a lower tier of QB)

Unless they get Cam Ward (and even if the do) the odds are they will be looking for a franchise QB in next year's draft. If my job wasn't on the line and the owner didn't give me an impossible win now ultimatum, I would draft Mason Graham, Carter and Hunter going one two because neither Cleveland or Tennessee think much of the QBs either. Build that defense and get the QB next year. Not gonna happen. Sadly the spin cycle will continue indefinitely.

The one thing (assuming Schoen doesn't foolishly trade up) is that the team should be sitting pretty at 3.  There should be an elite CB, DT, and Edge to pick at 3 (potentially more than one).  I tend to agree at 3 the only QB worth consideration is Ward (maybe Dart, but he will have to hit the rest of the draft process out of the park).

In terms of drafting a QB, I wouldn't mind double dipping if the Giants end up with a day 2 QB pick.  Take a day 2 guy, and a flyer on a day 3 guy.  Improve the team's chances on hitting on one.

Here @Painter

I did a QB double dip with more realistic prospects at the point they were drafted

I use the nfldmockraftdatabase.com without any trades

1) Travis Hunter - CB Colorado (get our CB1 while we have the rare opportunity)
2) Jack Sawyer - LB/Edge Ohio St. (just imagine him paired with Bobby Okereke)
3) Kyle McCord - QB Syracuse (love his tenacity and winning mindset...and he took a losing star-less team to a winning team, and beat Cam Ward on Ward's "good day")
4) Ozzie Trapilo - OT Boston College (superb tackle who has been exclusively used at RT, and we've had luck with OLmen from BC...remember Snee was a BC guy)
5) JJ Pegues - DT Mississippi (huge man - run stuffer who has a nose for the QB who gets sacks - always double teamed in college, won't be next to Dex)
6) Kyren Lacey - WR LSU (we've had good luck with LSU receivers)
7) Tyler Shough - QB Louisville (size wise and skill wise, practically a blonde-haired clone of Daniel Jones, but he isn't DJ. I want out of QB hell, so I'd take two QBs this draft and let them fight it out and find out if we have something special to groom)

I'd be happy with that draft, but I'm no expert. The only part of using a mock draft program, is picking the late picks as it is pretty well picked over. For WRs, I waffle between Kyren Lacy, and Arian Smith, a 6', Georgia Bulldogs' WR who runs a 40-time of 4.28

Another late pick that I like is a true FB, wrongly listed as a TE IMO, is Brant Kuithe. At 6-2, and about 240 lbs, he's too short/small for a TE, even though that's the position he's played. IMO, he'd be a great compliment to Tyrone Tracy in the backfield (the return of thunder and lightning). Kind of a Brandon Jacobs type bulldozer RB, but with exceptional route running and receiving skills for a player at the position of FB...and I like have a true FB on the team https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Brant-Kuithe-TE-Utah

As a sidenote, DT JJ Pegues was routinely used in the offense inside the 10 yard line. At 330 lbs or more, he is amazingly quick and shifty with his feet and is a converted TE after his weight climbed past 270. But he runs a 4.90, and is incredibly strong, moving the line whilst carrying the ball, but also has great receiving skills. To me, he's just an interesting player...especially working alongside Dexter. Also, just as another note, Pegues is on Bruce Feldman's Freak List

Ric,

I think a sneaky need for NYG is RB for short yardage situations

That whole Dline at Ole Miss is getting drafted highly.

People have been really quiet on Princely Umanmielen 14tfls, and 11 sacks, as of late, so he could be someone we could grab in the 2nd or 3rd with clear 1st rd talent. His bend is other worldly, he single handedly wrecked Georgia.

JJ pegues, is not only an amazing DT, but person, he was nicknamed the Mayor of Oxford because all he did is give back to the community while he was there. As you mentioned, he  was a 5 star recruit at TE before converting to DT his sophomore year, imagine what Andre Patterson could do with a guy like that with all the size and athleticism.

Then obviously there is Walter Nolen who could be the most disruptive Dlinemen in this draft. #1 recruit in high school, he's a monster, and his only goal is to be the next Aaron Donald. His hands are next level.

Lastly the most underrated guy on that line, Jared Ivey might be a steal of the draft. Crazy motor and high effort guy, 11 tfls, 7 sacks, 3PD, 1FR, 2FF. He'll fly under the radar and go in the 5th or so but it'll be a steal.

Used PFN and I'm calling this the "Let a man dream" draft:

1.3   Abdul Carter, EDGE, Penn State
2.34  Mason Graham, DT, Michigan
3.65  Jaxson Dart, QB, Ole Miss
4.104 Anthony Belton, OT, NC State
4.134 Ricky White, WR, UNLV
5.155 Raheim Sanders, RB, South Carolina
7.221 Nazir Stackhouse, DT, Georgia
7.248 Tyler Shough, QB, Louisville

Ward and Sanders go off the board at 1 and 2 so we take, arguably, the best player in the draft in Abdul Carter. Mason Graham falls out of the first round because "lol" so we get the steal of the draft at 34. Jaxson Dart in the third is just another dream scenario where the Giants can take a shot on a QB with upside.

With the combine nearly over using the PFN simulator and assuming we add a bridge FA QB:

1 CB/WR Travis Hunter
2 DT Derrick Harmon
3 Edge Landon Jackson
4a WR Jack Bech
4b T Charles Grant
5 QB Kyle McCord
7a Edge/DT Tyler Baty
7b RB Donovan Edwards

Traded 1.3 to Denver for 1.20, 2.51, 3.85, 6.193, a 2026 2nd rounder, and CB Riley Moss.

1.20: Walter Nolan (DT, Ole Miss)
2.34: Jaxson Dart (QB, Ole Miss)
2.51: Tate Ratledge (OG, Georgia)
3.65: Xavier Watts (Safety, Notre Dame)
3.85: Charles Grant (OT, William & Mary)
4.104: Terrance Ferguson (TE, Oregon)
4.134: Jay Higgins (LB, Iowa)
5.155: Ethan Downs (EDGE, Oklahoma)
6.193: DJ Giddens (RB, Kansas State)
7.221: KeAndre Lambert-Smith (WR, Auburn)
7.248: Cobee Bryant (CB, Kansas)
