Apparently he, his wife and dog all were found dead together and no foul play is suspected

I found that odd.  The couple were last seen in public a year prior.  It's possible that his wife had become Gene's caregiver, and something happened to her, which resulted in Gene and the dog no longer being cared for.

The Hollywood legend, 95, and classical pianist, 63, were pictured together for the last time on March 28, 2024 during a sighting at Pappadeaux's Seafood Kitchen in New Mexico.

I read they think the cause of death is carbon monoxide poisoning.
Such a shame. A great actor and a bit of nonsense trivia.....Gene Hackman and I share a birthday!

That was my other guess.  If so, it is a needless tragedy.   If you have a natural guess or oil heating, get yourself a carbon monoxide detector.

I realize that we are compulsive guessers generally accurate only after-the-fact, but to do so here and now is not just inappropriate but offensive to those who have good reason to morn such loss as tragedy or otherwise.

Carbon monoxide detectors pick up the burning of fossil fuels. They won't detect Natural Gas leaks. You should have one within 5 feet of any bedroom, and if the garage is under a bedroom, I recommend you have one in that or those bedrooms. Better yet, get the combination Smoke/Carbon. A Smoke detector should be on every floor, including the basement. Check with your state and local ordinances for compliance. In NJ, they passed a law in 2018 for the new 10-year sealed battery. If you have the old type, at least replace the batteries twice a year when the times change.

Police ruled out carbon monoxide poisoning.  Also said front door was open when a person was asked to check on them.  Also one dog was dead but two were alive.

Very strange.

The evidence sort of fits my original theory.  The wife has a sudden medical episode and passes away (spilling the pills she was trying to take).   Gene falls trying to leave the house unassisted to get help.  The dog either starved or perhaps consumed some of the spilled pills.

In any event, it's a strange and sad ending.

Nothing about this seems natural. Police must be keeping clues close to their chest. If it's overdose of pills, then it seems murder/suicide, but the dog dying in the closet makes no sense...although, the latest news I heard was they could have died a couple weeks ago. Maybe the dog starved

Certainly plausible.

I thought we were going to mention our favorite Gene Hackman movie. Mine is Mississippi Burning which he starred in along with William DaFoe and Francis McDermott

I had forgotten that one.  No doubt, his best work

Truly one of Hollywood's iconic actors, so many great movie roles.

Buck Barrow in Bonnie and Clyde
Jimmy 'Popeye Doyle'--French Connection
Rev Frank Scott--Posseiden Adventure
Narry Caul--The Conversation
The Blind Man---Young Frankenstein
Lex Luther---Superman
Coach Norman Dale---Hoosiers
Defense Secretary David Brice---No Way Out
FBI Special Agent Rupert Anderson--Mississippi Burning
Sheriff 'Little Bill' Daggett--- The Unforgiven
Captain Franklin "Frank" Ramsey--Crimson Tide
Edward "Brill" Lyle--Enemy of the State

These are just a few of his more famous roles, but there were just so many others.

He will sorely be missed.

Maybe one of the funniest clips from a movie --ever

You're right, he was a phenomenal actor that could go from humor to hero or villain. A couple of my favorite comedies are "Get Shorty" and "Heartbreakers"

Both Gene and his wife died of natural causes.

As was suspected, his wife died and Gene died about a week later as he could not take care of himself.

Such a terrible situation to even think about.  Can't even imagine such an ending for both of them.

A legend of film. Superb technique that was seemingly effortless to project an unlimited range of depth.
